Ive had systems very similar to yours. Then I changed 1 thing to help with drainage. I put the Bulkheads on the bottom of the buckets, only 1/2". I use the same rack you use, I just cut a few bars underneath for the inlets. The drain is an over flow in a grommet rather then a bulkhead to a Main drain line back to the res. I use a tiny pump 5w because I only need to pump the solution up 18"-20". Its on a interval timer on 2 minutes off 5 to keep temps down. I only have a 3 site system but only run 2. 3 overgrows my 2x4 space quickly. System holds 6-7 gallons. I let the empty bucket run to add more water volume. The bottom fill makes draining very easy, no pumps needed. I do remove the 5w pump to speed up the back flow, thats my 1 draw back. Use 1 pump to start a siphon in the res then turn it off, I used gravity every way I can. Once again great job!
Thank you for watching and commenting. When I initially set it up, I really thought about going through the bottom of the bucket. If I ever design a new system I probably would. Easier for cleaning too. I do like the waterfall action though of my feed line as it helps keep the water oxygenated.
Very clean job. Despite the height penalty, I like the use of the shelving racks.
One issue I see not addressed is heat.
I've been told that the pump and the air bubbles all add to the heat input. Lots if heat will come from those lights as well.
I've been told it is important to keep the water temp at or below 68°F to reduce the likelihood of pathogens and root rot. Some use chillers. I saw one tent that had all the buckets insulated and a layer of mylar bubble insulation over the buckets, isolating the buckets from the main grow space.

Thanks for watching and for your 2 cents! Yes pumps can add heat. This is one reason my pump is an inline, but actually haven't noticed much of a difference. You are correct water temp matters but lots of individuals have had issues even with a chiller. I think it's more about managing your system. Thanks again for the support

Few questions, How often do you clean your setup and how much water do you initially fill the reservoir with.
2nd.) I assume this is only for your flower cycle and not from seed?

Thanks for watching and commenting. Appreciate the support. Usually takes about 30 gallons to start with and yes I run seeds from start to finish. Towards the end of a grow cycle the water refill drops to around 20-25 gallons. Clean it after each run. Except the one I'm on now. I just kept on going.

Looking good! I don't know how cool your room is, but chillers are the #1 addition for a rdwc system
Thank you for watching! Stays about 62-65 usually. My issue with running the chiller is the electric cost. With everything I have running currently I don't want to add more to the bill. 😆

but what do you do if the roots grow into the pipe and possibly block it?
Thank you for watching and for the question. I have had the roots grow into the drain line but never enough to totally block it. Going with a bigger drain can help prevent this. It is a chance though. I also try to keep smaller plants with smaller root mass.
Amazing setup & thank you for sharing. Quick question, what are those green caps on top off the pvc cross pieces, valves? The sand filtration looks awesome! Looking forward to the next update.
Thanks for watching. Glad you like the video. The green pieces are actually just foam rings for clone cuttings. Just there as a spacer/support for the smaller PVC line to sit on the bigger one.
Amazing setup. I've really been wanting to convert my DWC to an RDWC, and this (your) setup is the simplest and cleanest looking one I have found so far. Do you have a website with a parts list? Either way, and once again, an amazing setup.

Cool setup man. I subbed. I grew in a very similar undercurrent setup in the same size tent. You running a chiller? Only thing I didn’t see. Do you have a journal?
Thank you for watching. Nope don't run a chiller. Manage to make it work with water temps from 68-78 depending on the season. I do use an electronic journal I made in Excel, yes. Chiller just costs to much $$ to justify running. Along with my other equipment.

Hey man, love the setup. Looking to build something similar. Just wanted to ask! What type of pipe are you using for the feed line? (The pipe that your smaller waterfall lines connect to)
It starts with a 1" PVC manifold then steps down to 1/2" flexible tubing for the runs up to each bucket. Thank you for watching!

I like the totes you chose. Are they 6 or 8 gallon? I can't tell but they seem larger than 5gal

I have 4 5 gallon pots and 1 5 gallon Reservoir do I account for all 5 pots or just the 4 pots with plants when adding nutrients?

What kind of yield do you average and how long do you veg for? I have the same tent and fan I'm thinking about going rdwc
Thanks a tough question to answer....I have vegged anywhere from 4-8 weeks and have yielded anywhere from 1-12 oz from a plant.
My goal is 5 per plant.
I love RDWC as I can leave for a week and things have been just fine when I get back. No sending a friend to water my girls.

How much quicker from seed to harvest is RDWC compared to using soil?

Why do you have the fans below the buckets in the tent?
To help keep air flow moving around. Cool air sinks so keeping it moving helps. Also helps as PM since most bugs don't like wind.
What is the gph rating of your pump? Link? Cost?
1100 gph, cost around $80 and bought it from a local grow store.
Have you had any issues with roots growing in and clogging the small diameter return line? I had to go to 3” returns to keep flow up and roots from clogging the system.
Nope. I've had them grow into the drainone bit never plug it up.
How many gallons of water do you run in your system??
Anywhere from 35 in the very beginning to 20 towards the end.
How many GPM is your pump? Any issues with uneven water flow to the further buckets?
Sorry but I can't say what the gpm is as I'm not sure. Most likely around 700-800. No issues with flow as I use a manifold system where the main feed line is bigger that the lines running to each bucket. Thanks for watching
@@myhobbygrow I see. Main feed line is 1” and the lines coming off to each bucket are 3/4”? Or 1/2”? Sorry. I was trying build a system for my 4x8 and was running into uneven water levels with other designs
@@EL1TExATHLETE you are on the right track. I think I did 1" main and 1/2" feed lines. All buckets stay even with flow and level of water. Set up is in a 4x8. I only wish I had more room between the buckets.
@@myhobbygrow that’s real. Yea I was thinking 1” pvc like with 3/4” flex tube supply lines coming off of it bc I have some extra. I’ve heard some other people using ball valves to restrict flow closer to the pump and even out the flow but don’t know if it’s necessary
@@myhobbygrow also that’s interesting. I was planning on cramming 10 4 gallon buckets into a 4x8 thinking the 2 extra plants may lead to more yield than 8 wider plants

see I dont have any mechanical knowledge, but fuck it lets learn, right off the bat im gonna ask u what u used to support the totes? the metal thing the sit on. and how many galons is each tote in this setup?

@@myhobbygrow no problem mate, watching was a pleassure, I will deffinitely DM you in the future, Im running coco70/30 in a 3x3 at the moment. will be doing it for now and save money allon the way and make 4x8 rdwc eventually, but including lamps and all I will have to save for couple months haha, but its all worth it in the end
You need a sediment filter with an optional charcoal filter.
