      I had mine at 20 😅😅 While it’s much easier physically and it’s easy to “bounce back” we’re definitely not in the ideal place financially and have to wait a while before having another. Also we get judgement and it doesn’t help that we look even younger than we are. There are definitely pros and cons.

    I conceived at 36.. didn't have insurance until 5 mths so I did the most minimal check ups.. Went for my 14 weeks, anatomy scan & got checked into a birthing center at 30 weeks. I believed my baby was healthy bc I did all I can so u didn't obsess over what could go wrong bc even if things went wrong are u prepared for the angst you would be putting yourself through?.. There's no reason to manifest those energies in the air ladies.

    It’s important to recognize (1) all of this is increased RISK, meaning a higher percentage of AMA women have these issues than non-AMA women- it does NOT mean it definitely will happen. Dr Ali, I think it would help people feel a lot less scared if you told us the difference in absolute risk. The likelihood of these issues at any age is still very low. And (2) there are a lot of other factors that affect the health of your baby more than just your age. I got pregnant for the first time at 40, but I’ve been healthy and physically active my whole life, and my doctor straight up told me she’d rather have a healthy older woman than a young woman who wasn’t taking care of herself, in terms of maternal and fetal outcomes. Finally (3) it’s not like 35 is some magic number where if you’re 34 and 11 months everything is fine and then you hit 35 and all hell breaks loose. Biology doesn’t work that way. Things slowly break down as you age, but exactly when and how that happens is different for every person and depends on their genes, preexisting conditions, etc. So let’s stop shaming women who chose to get pregnant at older ages for somehow “harming” their babies. And let’s also stop scaring the sh*t out of them!!

    I'm 38 and currently 17 weeks pregnant with our 4th and last baby. All our genetic testing came back with low risk and negative. This is my 2nd pregnancy being considered AMA. Our 3rd baby was born when I was 35. They have me do my anatomy scans with a Maternal Fetal Medicine doctor and all the ultrasounds and NST's starting at 36 weeks. I'm so glad we waited to have children later personally because we are financially ready for children, more so than we were in our 20's. Plus if we didnt decide to have this last baby we would have never had our only son. We have 3 daughters and this last baby is our little boy💙

I still work out around this time, biking and weight lifting. Im glad my husband and I waited tonhave kids. Dont be too scared to wait, its okay. Uou know yourself more than others. Have kids when you're ready. Just because youre over 35 doesn't mean you'll have a complicated pregnancy. Part of it is also genetics but also a lot of it is lifestyle. My ObGYN told me that age is just one factor. Overall health, your nutrition, genes, etc. all plays a role here. There could be very sick 22year olds having trouble vs. a really fit 40 year old. It depends on the person. I know ao many women conceiving easily well up until 40, my best friend with 39 on the first try. I am 37 and pregnant with my last kid. My grandma had her last at 46 - she said back in her day it was normal to conceive until it wasn't possible anymore. All healthy children.

  • @blackeyedsusan727
    @blackeyedsusan727 ปีที่แล้ว +45

    I wish this myth would die: I'm 43 years old, this is my first kid, and everything has gone 200% well. I am the healthiest I've ever been mentally and physically. I'm in a great place in my career and have the resources to provide well for my child. I am mentally ready to start this new chapter and have no regrets about what I have left undone now that my kid will be the #1 priority for years to come.
    No gestational diabetes. No high blood pressure. Anterior placenta, but no further complications there. In other words, there's no reason to assume that everything is going to go sideways because you're 35+!!!
    Please note that the "35" as the end of it all is (a) based on very outdated studies and no longer based in current, sound science; (b) not shared by doctors in most of the rest of the world.
    Please worry more about staying healthy: get all your hormonal and blood tests before trying to get pregnant; start taking prenatal vitamins and other steps for great fertility at least 3 months before you plan to get pregnant; if it's taking you a long time to get pregnant, please have your male partner check his sperm/fertility too, and don't assume it's your eggs/body that are the cause.

    Issues aren't guaranteed for particular mom, it's just % of risk increasing. Still for each random person it depends on health and luck, because nobody has 100+ babies to check statistical number.
    Only guaranteed complication is paying 500$ out of pocket for genetics testing 😂. But this is needed.

Id rather risk my money, that can be replaced. Just be carefull please, i want us as human to keep repopulating! Take care of yourselves health wise, as previously stated. I love women and seeing families with with babies/kids loving happily. I yearn for this so much. Just feels so fleeting sometimes knowing what can happen. Worst kind of gamble, in my opinion. Once its started theres no going back! Men need to be ready and healthy and women need to be healthy and ready for what may come. No more sensless deaths. Innocent should not suffer, so please, as stated in the video, freezing is the best bet. Much love and good luck

    For any female who’s watching this video. The most important thing to do is to get to know your body. Is not expensive and you can learn so many important factors on TH-cam/internet. Just starting to understand your cycle and get to know when you’re ovulating is the first step. Then if you have the money is to visit your doctors to see any medical issues. Honestly what’s more scary is how little females know extremely information. My female friends in their late 20’s ask me the most ridiculous questions about ovulating. Some don’t even know when is their period coming.

    When you setup a preconception appointment , especially for a mom who had complications from a previous pregnancy, would the doctor ever advise against another pregnancy? I had pre eclampsia with my first pregnancy and have been told by other moms that had it as well with their first, went on to have another baby and did not get preeclampsia again.

    • @TeaCup1940
      @TeaCup1940 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably only if there is a very high risk that the woman could die a doctor would advice against having children. Surely this is very rare. Preeclampsia is not a condition that cannot be controlled. If you had previous pregnancy complications it does not mean you will have them in subsequent pregnancies, but the risk is higher compared to a woman that had no complications at all. You would probably be monitored more closely. The important thing is to keep your doctor informed of all health conditions you have or had in the past and get proper prenatal care.

    How does embryos frozen before 35 affect any/all AMA risks?

    • @alirodmd
      @alirodmd  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hiii🥰 this is a great question! The younger we are when we freeze embryos (meaning the health of the egg used is younger) the lower the risk of chromosomal abnormalities. As far as pregnancy outcomes kinda like I said in the video, for the mother it’s going to depend on her personal health. As we age we’re more likely to develop medical conditions, but if we remain healthy etc then those risks go down. I hope I’m explaining this well!

    Dr. Ali, please can you do a video on PMS and Severe PMDD please? It has/is ruining my life and the lack of awareness and education on this is also not helping. The gynecology department don't treat it properly, they think it's more a psychiatry issue and vice versa or the psychiatrist thinks my GP should deal with it and the psychiatric nurses don't seem to believe it at all as being so bad to impact ones functioning for two weeks. I asked to be referred to endocrinology to see what they think and they dismissed that. So in the end I've got so much worse due to them trying an extreme treatment on me without warning me of how it could make everything worse initially. They gave me 3 month injection of Decapeptyl to switch my ovaries off therefore a chemical menopause
    Then I had to start tibilone for the severe side effects eg hot flushes.
    Thankfully this will no longer be in my system in 3 weeks and I wont be getting any more of this injection
    However, that means I'm back to where I was but worse off having tried everything and been in and out of the psychiatric hospital and general hospital since this injection for how bad my symptoms became. Now I will need to just suffer with PMDD 😢 and if this is what menopause is like I don't wanna live til that age. I'm near 32 and I've not got any proper help for any of this.
    I would love if you'd put a video up of your view on this as someone educated in it and also raise awareness of PMDD and how it is not really recognised or believed. I was told I should keep busy and therefore my hormones won't impact me (by a female psychiatrist who turned out to be pregnant at the time) it's like she had no sympathy at all.
    I don't want to die young because of this condition. I nearly did last week and was hospitalised.
    It's horrendous. My PMDD takes two weeks out of my month which means half of my year goes to this awful illness. All of 2023 was a hormonal trial period for me and it's nearly killed me. It's way to dangerous.
    Much appreciated
    Thank you

It was twins, and I didn't know AMA is lowered to the age to 34 for multiples. My husband laughed and asked, "How does it feel to get old in 10 minutes?" 🤣🤣 Our pregnancies over 35 weren't successful. In most industrialised countries, we've become socialised into the 'small family' norm. The typical earliest age for a first pregnancy is 30 which leaves only a few years in which to have more than 1 or 2 children. In order for a modern economy to flourish well into the future, the fertility rate needs to be at least 2.1 children per woman. Japan, South Korea and china are the most extreme examples of what can happen to a country's demography when fertility rates fall well below this figure but most other countries are following a similar trajectory. Stephen J Shaw's *Birthgap* is just one of a growing number of documentaries and commentaries which address this existential issue.
    We need to be honest in the message that's conveyed to young girls about human biology so that they can make a very clear and genuinely well informed choice as to what age they decide to start to have children.
