BRO.... Found this video in a random forum while trying anything and everything to troubleshoot my premium alpine sound system and why the quality suddenly dropped off when streaming and using CarPlay. The stupid ass sound check feature must have been turned on after an iPhone update. I wish I would have found this video so much sooner. I've been to the dealership twice, online countless hours, updated and reset nearly everything on the Jeep and it was just this stupid little setting. Thanks my man!
This just helped so much, I was so pissed on how low my CarPlay was I was getting ready to buy a new head unit and speakers, this just saved so much money. Thank you.
Omg! I’m so glad I ran across this video! Was so frustrating that I could never figure out why Apple Music was so much lower than standard radio music. Thank you so much!
Wow! This has been driving me nuts ever since I bought my new truck. At certain points in a song you want to crank it hard and rock to that guitar riff but it just wasn’t happening. Can’t wait for my next road trip to really enjoy my tunes. Thanks so much!!
2 years later - and still dumb that you need to do this! Thank you so much!!!!!! I’m on a 2023 Goldwing motorcycle and it was driving me nuts lol. Appreciate it!
Thank you for this! It's been driving me crazy wondering what was making my music so quiet lately or if I was going deaf, but after turning off the Sound Check which I didn't realize was on after getting my new phone, much better! I noticed it just makes my metal songs more quiet which kind of goes against the whole point of that type of music.
"Sound Check" was disabled already. This video is basically only for people who use Apple Music. I use Spotify and Pandora, and to have my music actually "rocking out" loud, my volume ends up on like 68. Having to turn your volume up to 68 is absolutely absurd. You have to turn it way down if you get a phone call, or switch to radio, or you will blow your speakers and eardrums out. I hope they fix this nonsense soon.
I also have Sound Check disabled, and I also have Apple Music but I typically use TH-cam Music in the car. I’m just now realizing it might be the source that’s the issue. Gonna try a few things tomorrow and see how it turns out.
well I have a brand new 23 cs and I have the same issue but mine is with all the audio sources. my volume is low no matter what I do. I can turn the volume all the way up and I can still have a full conversation with the person next to me please help
Fantastick. That fixed my wife's carplay integration on her new Mazda. I am so glad I don't have to deal with any of these problems with my Tesla. Zero buttons compared to wife's over 50 buttons. It's incredible how easy a good 15" screen UI is compared to buttons.
That’s awesome! I have an eBay android based radio and I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why the sample song that comes preloaded on the radio was louder then my Apple Music. Thanks so much for showing us!
Is this only if you are using Apple music app or it's for Apple car itself generally? The reason I'm asking is because I can't find that music setting on my iPhone?
I think I have a different issue with volume when connrect yo Apple CarPlay. My volume is loud and no matter if I lower it using my phone or the car volume buttons on the steering wheel or console it is still loud and when I look at my Apple Music the bar where it tells you how low/high the volume it is is greyed out or doesn’t show it and can move it with finger
I'm literally on a call with Apple Support about this issue. Driving me absolutely nuts. I think something got screwed up in an update for Carplay or Ios 17.1 or 17.1.1
I got a ram 1500 limited I was about to take it to the dealership but I did notice the difference between radio and Apple car play, needless to say I follow your instructions and my system is working like a champ
what a difference! I was about to have a amp installed. Also on i phone, if you go to music in settings and then go to EQ and select Late Night this will also increase volume.
Oh my goodness I love you. I just bought a new car and the stereo sometimes loud sometimes isn’t I was going absolutely bonkers. I was gonna take my car back to the dealer and feel really stupid and tell him why my radio is so low, but thank you so much. I hope that makes the difference.

THANK YOU. I’ve always had sound check off and didn’t think about checking it. iPhone did an update and it must have turned it back on. It’s been driving me nuts. Thanks to you, I’m back to working on going deaf in the Jeep.
Thank you, that helped it immensely. I was wondering that as well since I connected my iPhone 15 to apple car play and I kept bringing up the volume because I couldn't hear it so, now I know, thank you again.
i listen to metal and suddenly my speakers were super quiet after using the talk/listening feature so i’ll have to give this a shot i hope it works thank you fellow metal brother
Guys, just turn off your ringer on your phone and you should be able to adjust your volume instead of it being stuck on guidance volume. That was the solution I was looking for
My big problem volume wise is using maps for navigation when I have music playing (Apple music) at any decent volume, I can barely hear Siri. Her volume is up all the way. Even went to the dealership and they couldn’t really help. Any ideas how to make her louder?
Wait for siri to talk, once she starts talking turn your volume up, it literally only works if she’s talking already and while she’s talking if not you’re going to end up just turning your music volume up. Hope this helps you Btw I suggest turning your music volume mostly down first so you can tell the difference
Wow. You are a star. I bought a new car-play and the sound it was sometimes ok sometimes bad. I thought it is because of the connectivity..I switched between bluetooth to aux and drive me crazy..I wanted to return the product and to gave a big negative review. Now I sorted the sound quality thankfully
Sound check wasn’t enabled for me yet the volume using CarPlay is stupid low. I still have to crank it up to 90% to hear anything coming from my phone at a reasonable volume. 🤷♂️
Understood the SoundCheck thing...my issue is why can't I adjust the EQ settings while using CarPlay on my UConnect radio? It sounds great on Bluetooth but as soon as I hook up the USB it goes to this different sound that's not adjustable...
Very helpful tip. Any thoughts on why Android Headend Stereo connected to iPhone 13 Pro only allows callers to barely hear me when speaking? I can hear callers very clearly but they can barely hear me at all. Very frustrating and dangerous when receiving phone calls. All other CarPlay functions work just fine. Any thoughts you might have on how to repair this problem greatly appreciated.
@@calebsaunders562 Yes the built in one that came built in with the Jeep. I thought the new head end when plugged into internal loom will activate the microphone for Apple CarPlay. I can hear callers clearly but they cannot hear me clearly. It’s like my voice is being filtered somehow?
I’m having a problem where the sound is just flat and cannot adjust the audio settings only when playing from Amazon music. Other apps, such as TH-cam, the audio sounds fine and you can adjust the equalizer in car play. Usually unplugging and plugging back in fixes this but this time it’s not.
@@laurencowsar918 Yes! My problem was fixed when I tapped the Amazon Music icon from the Apple Carplay menu (on my vehicle's screen) when the app was already on and running on my phone. The sound then automatically became louder and clearer. It's as if it wasn't fully connected until it was running on both carplay and my phone. I hope that helps!

It is so annoying! I just checked my setting and my Sound is already off ugh. Anything thoughts? Thanks in advance. You into Maiden?? My favorite!
Didn't work for me. Jensen aftermarket ALWAYS starts at 11 for iphone maps, audible books, all of it. And every time I start the car, I have to start over to bring it up to 20 or so. I'd hoped your system would fix that, but no luck. Glad you fixed it for others!
Great advice!! Do you happen to know why the volume would change when using navigation? For example, sometimes when I’m listening to music (doesn’t matter which song), I can barely hear the spoken directions. Other times it’s fine. I’ve tried adjusting the volume on both the car (which only makes the music louder) and my phone (which does nothing). Would sound check be the possible cause for this as well? It’s been driving me crazy!!
If you’re using an iPhone. You will have a speaker button at the top right of the screen below a button that looks like a road Click on that and it’ll allows you to adjust for Siri to speak over the music or at the same level
Turn the volume up when you hear the voice for navigation. In my car I have to turn the navigation volume up when it is announcing directions, but if I try turning it up while music is playing it won’t increase the volume for the navigation
What do I do if it's my Android? my phone is OnePlus 6t and it seems that I'm facing the same problem. what's another option for sound check for Android?
I’ve never had problems with streamed music volume (Pandora, TH-cam, etc). My problem is with MP3 file playback whether I’ve downloaded or playing one that’s been texted to me etc. Car volume has to be almost maxed out. Then, if I forget to turn it back down….😵💫🤯. Any solutions for this? Sound checking makes 0 difference. “Late Night” EQ only slightly better
So my son is having the same problem except that it’s the phone volume that is extremely low when his apple phone is connected, when he calls or I call him I cannot hear him? If he disconnects the phone and talks over Bluetooth it’s loud. The problem is his phone needs to be connected to use navigation. Any suggestions on how to fix that?
@@donsheldrick5868 no solution yet, I’m going to take the truck for service and have them look at it and see if they can figure it out? Sorry to hear your having the same problem, it’s so frustrating.
It's a known apple car play issue. It won't ever get fixed. I have a headunit with Android auto and Apple carplay and Android auto does not have this issue. Apple car play on the other hand. Generally lower volume all around. But way worse on phone calls. It actually seems to get quieter as the call goes on? I Can not hear the other person on the line at all without putting the volume to max. Then when you forget to turn the volume back down after the call, a Siri voice prompt from navigation etc will blow your speakers off and scare the shit out of you. I have none of these issues on the exact same head unit with my android phone plugged in.
Will this work for my Bluetooth phone call side? I can not turn up the volume on my phone. It grays out when connected and in a phone call. But works just fine listing to music and I can turn it up on my phone. Why?!
My sound check button isn’t on. And I can hardly hear in CarPlay. My car volume buttons and knob do not increase the volume either when CarPlay is connected.
What about the common problem with hands free calling via Bluetooth with iPhone to car stereo??? My volume is always low with phone calls but soon as I hang up, music from stereo is so loud! This problem is also very annoying too!!! I have checked my sound check and it was already off. Any ideas to solve this one please??? Thanks!
I cannot find anywhere on how to lower my GPS directions when connected to Apple CarPlay and listening to my music in my Honda CRV. I can adjust the music great, but my GPS from my phone is too loud and I have tried everything. Can you help?
I have a 2018 jeep grand cherokee, is it normal that when I use the car navigator, uconnect, the navigation audio only comes out from the driver's side speaker? the music is heard in all the speakers, but the navigator's voice comes out only from the front left speaker ...
You found the hole 😅 This is really helpful. Since one year I was facing this issue. But did or recognize that. Somebody attached the android phone and it was quite loud. I thought my system is buggy.
So this may work in music, but the solution is quite simple for everything else here. Fist connect the phone and get into CarPlay or Android Auto. Tell your voice assistant to tell you a joke or something that gives you a bit of time with it speaking. As it speaks turn up your volume on your stereo. It will adjust voice volume. Then go into a navigation app and have it navigate. When it’s speaking a direction turn up the volume knob again and you will see it adjusts navigation volume. Repeat for a phone call. Simple and done.
That isn't the point. With CarPlay, we have to crank our music to damn near max to rock out and have the music loud. We should have it on about 34 to be rocking out, but instead, we have to crank it all the way to about 68 (out of 70 max limit).
Does this also work when the spotify volume is lower than the volume from the radio? I just turned this off in the settings for music, but it doesn’t look like it’s changing the volume for spotify.
Man I really thought this would work but it didn’t for my situation. My mustang defaults to a certain sound setting where only the front speakers are playing and bass treble and mods are in the middle. No matter what I do it never saves to what I want. This started randomly. Music sounds distorted. I gota keep researching

Heb je al een oplossing gevonden?
I have the same problem with my car player .but not working while off the sound check.I’m using iPhone 14 promax
Same issiue did you fix it ?
Man I really thought this would work but it didn’t for my situation. My mustang defaults to a certain sound setting where only the front speakers are playing and bass treble and mods are in the middle. No matter what I do it never saves to what I want. This started randomly. Music sounds distorted. I gota keep researching
But I don’t have the music app on my iPhone. Only issue is with Apple CarPlay while using TH-cam music.
Top 5 video ALL TIME I WAS GOING CRAZY

This is exactly what I was looking for. After an update on my phone I had a noticeable decrease in volume, and couldn’t figure out why.
Thank so much. This was driving my wife and I insane!
Thank you 100% helped out! I knew it was a phone setting.
