  • Heartburn can be a symptom of acid reflux. In this video, we will look at some of the causes, symptoms, and importantly some treatment options to help you at home naturally to ease GERD / GORD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease).
Heartburn can be described as a burning feeling in the chest caused by stomach acid traveling up towards the throat (acid reflux). If it keeps happening, it's called gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD/GORD). Some of the symptoms of this condition include:
⦿ Heartburn - a burning sensation in the middle of your chest
⦿ An unpleasant sour taste in your mouth, caused by stomach acid
    📥 SUBSCRIBE to my Newsletter 💻Twice monthly | 🌿 Healthy living🌿🧠 Well-being 🧠🤗 Happiness 🤗 bit.ly/2ZhCh6K
    Slightly rarer symptoms include:
⦿ A cough or hiccups that keep coming back
    ⦿ Hoarse voice
    ⦿ Bad breath
    ⦿ Bloating and feeling sick
It is a common symptom I come across on my day-to-day work as a family doctor in London. It is estimated 1 in 3 of us will be affected by Acid Reflux in our lifetime. This is why it is super important to look at some of the main causes of this. The circular band of muscle (sphincter) at the bottom of the gullet (esophagus) normally prevents acid from leaking up (reflux). Problems occur if the sphincter does not work very well. This is common but in most cases, it is not known why it does not work so well. Some of the causes include:
    ⦿ Smoking
    ⦿ Obesity
    ⦿ Pregnancy
    ⦿ Diet
    ⦿ Medication
When it comes to the treatment of Acid Reflux/ GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease), the most important factor is to make changes to lifestyle factors. Avoiding some types of food in our diet to help reduce the symptoms. Reduction in smoking or giving up altogether can be important. Alcohol can often exacerbate symptoms so it is worth stopping alcohol intake. We will also discuss more practical tips you can do to help treat your acid reflux/heartburn symptoms at home easily and naturally. Lastly, we will cover some of the medications available for treatment if all other steps have not resolved the GERD symptoms.
Important things to try for GORD:
⦿ More frequent and small meals
⦿ Raise 1 end of your bed 10 to 20cm by putting something under your bed or mattress - your chest and head should be above the level of your waist, so stomach acid does not travel up towards your throat
⦿ Weight loss if you're overweight
⦿ Try to find ways to relax - this can help reduce your symptoms
There are also specific diets recommended for people with reflux disease like the alkaline diet.

    Hi Doctor khalid
i have been dealing with acid reflux for quite some time. And got some medication that helped a lot when i was using it. but after some time it came back. I am using bricanyl turbo inhalor for bronchitis, and haven't used that for 2 weeks now and i feel that my acid reflux is really gearing down and only appears occasionally. My question is do you have any information if these medicin can cause acid reflux ?

This is a very informative video.
I am currently finding out that I may have Acid reflux. Today I went for a imaging appointment and drank and weird granual powder that immediately gave me the sensation that I needed to burp, and then did some diagnostic imaging of me drinking a reallllllly disgusting super thick chalky drink for about 5 mins. Terrible experience on an empty stomach 😣😅
Mainly the reason I am leaving this comment, have you ever heard of someone dealing with this issue, and also having the sensation that there is something in their throat? Almost like the dangle thing in the throat is swollen, but isn't, but thaats how it felt. Have you ever heard of symptom? Thanks for reading this

Hey just helping anyone I have witnessed this before tonight actually I woke up with burning pain in my stomach going to my chest. I thought I was coming on my period but it wasn’t cramping it was burning. I woke up and immediately drank some water that didn’t work I tried tossing and turning then I came to this video no lie I did a few jumping jacks and sit ups to overcome the pain it kind of helped… and then i went and used the bathroom ( # 2 ) eventually the real bad pain has went away but prior to this I had a change in diet and took like some ginger shots but then I went back to a bad diet also more drinking and that’s definitely the reason why I’ve had this pain. So I’ll definitely be cutting back on smoking and drinking also atleast a 30 min work out at and less junk food. I’m only 18 so It’s best I get it under control this scared the hell out of me when he said I could be experiencing a heart attack.. hopefully this can help someone with similar problems

I have been suffering lately with burning sensation in my throat and chest almost sometimes like a minty feeling, chest was really bothering me one day so I went to the ER thank God it was not a heart attack EKG was good, chest x ray was clear and my troponin level was 0. The feeling stayed been very hard to sleep and hard to do my daily activities because of the constant feeling in my throat. NIGHT time is the worst sometimes I don’t even eat because of the acid feeling I already have in my throat before eating. It’s caused several anxiety attacks at night and I get a very uneasy unwell sick feeling that causes me to toss and turn and throughout the day, I feel horrible and drained and anxious feeling all the time because of it. I did read on how people with GERD have symptoms of anxiety that can come along with this 😢. I am thankful it was nothing serious when I went last Tuesday to the ER but I need some help desperately on what to do I am not a medicine taker, Thanks in advance Doctor.

    Hello !
I have so many questions about GERD. 2 months ago I was watching tv with my wife when I started feeling a weird pain in my chest, arms felt tingly, felt dizzy, felt nauseous, and started panicking. I started looking up my symptoms on google and scared myself into thinking I was having a heart attack. My wife drove me to Urgent Care where they did an EKG , XRays, and blood work. I was told everything looked fine and was given Pepcid (which helped for that night).
Fast forward 2 months later, about 5 days ago I started feeling the same symptoms again. Went to a clinic and when I told them I was having those symptoms plus a really bad headache I was told to go to Urgent Care again to make sure I wasn't having a stroke. Went to Urgent Care and was told everything was fine. For 5 days in a row I was feeling Nauseous, at some times dizzy, and today the headaches came back. Went to the clinic once more this morning. After being checked and asked questions about my eating habits I was told that it could be GERD. I was told to take Prilosec every morning for 30 days. I also made an appointment with my regular doctor but it isn't for another 10 days.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? The headaches are really freaking me out because Ive never experiences them like this. Also I don't understand what my stomach has to do with my head. I just want to know if this are all symptoms of GERD.
Please help me out. I'm freaking out!
    Thank you so much.
