It's been 30 years, and it's still a great show with something for everyone - guys love KITT, chics love Hasselhoff, great intro music - perfect match. No TV show since then has been that cool. Man, that car still looks cool even after all these years!!
Obi Ezeilo my brother I (TOTALLY) agree with you bro! After ten years since you last posted your comment it’s now been over 40 years since Knight Rider was broadcast on TV and still it’s a great show with something for everyone - guys love KITT, chics love Hasselhoff, great intro music - perfect match… I (COMPLETELY) agree with you. No other TV show since then has been that cool! (Ever!) Man I’ll echo after you and say that car (STILL) looks cool after all these years!!! Genius… Beyond measure. I fell in love with that car from the moment I saw it for the first time ever as nearly a six year old boy while I was mesmerised by the intro and the whole two hour show of the pilot episode of Knight Rider broadcast on ITV in London within Great Britain in September 1982…. I desperately wanted that car as a boy and still crave that car as a man too…. The closest I’ve ever got to owning a car that’s close to my heart like KITT was and still is was when I finally bought my dream car consisting of a 2006 Obsidian Black Mercedes Benz SL55 AMG F1 Performance Pack…. We’re close. We keep it tight like KITT and Michael Knight……..
This intro always makes me cry cause my dear godfather have give me this series on vhs when i whas little. He really known me what show i would really like :'( I miss you dear godfather and thanks for everything :(
As a kid in the backseat of my dad's car going round corners even at 50 was one of the best things about the 80s, flying from one side of the car to the other. Only beaten by climbing up in the back window and flying forward when he slammed on the brakes.
im not old enough to have seen the old ones when they were first on but when i was about 5 they used to aways repeat them on sky, and now the new ones are out which are awsome and for the first time i think the originals and the new ones are just as good as each other, love knight rider and kitt is a legend
Knight Rider is one of the coolest shows ever, I've watched it since I was a small child when my Grandma told me about it and I loved the way the car talked and ever time I got in the car I wanted it to talk like KR. I like the new series and the old series the same way.
This TV show is the thing that made me into this car business madness... and this is what motivated me into the 458 Italia that I have right now.... What a dream-come-true...
I always thought the line "In a world of criminals who operate above the law" was funny. Don't ALL criminals operate above the law, hence what makes them a criminal? Still one of the best shows EVER along with CHiPS and the A-Team. Long live the great 80's shows.
i miss my teens the eighties... there was no trouble everyone used to get on? nice weather and good times? and no wars or terrorism... and tv dramas like the A TEAM KNIGHT RIDER AIR WOLF AND STREETHAWK LOL!! i wish i could go back in time and be a kid and watch them again and again!! i really miss it shame im old now too old!!!
Let's face it when we had terrific shows like this or the A-Team or Street Hawk to look forward to, we didn't need TH-cam. This was long before TV execs stopped coming up with original ideas and started just producing "reality" TV where you get to watch people working or fighting...thank God we have DVDs available to us.
Most people don't realize that the voiceover introduction was done by the late Richard Basehart, who was already dying of cancer when he portrayed industrialist Wilton Knight in the pilot episode. It's interesting comparing his voice here to his narration at the opening of 1956's film version of "Moby Dick," the effects of age and cigarettes.
i miss my teens the eighties... there was no trouble everyone used to get on? nice weather and good times? and no wars or terrorism... and the A TEAM KNIGHT RIDER AIR WOLF AND STREETHAWK LOL!! i really miss it shame im old now too old!!!
I remember my dad sat in the front room taping the intro music one week this was on. It is a quality piece of music! The narration at the start is wicked! Makes me want to get into voiceover work.
The fastest speed that was ever shown on the speedo in an episode was 300mph, in the opening credits here and then again in "Burial Ground" (Season 4, Episode 5), although a "current speed of 310 mph" is mentioned verbally by KITT in the Season 2 opener "Goliath".
“This is not your father’s Oldsmobile...This is the new generation of OLDS!”: from 1988 TV ads with Lisa Marie Presley, and others came to mind watching this “Knight Rider” opening. Similarly: “This is not your mama’s Pontiac...” comes to mind since Richard BASEhart (279-03-2105; Wilton KNIGHT) narrates the opening and died on 9/17/84, two years before the series ended. Some grannies died on WWHB Basehart’s 91st birthday: AUG. 31, 2005. This video posted on WWHB some granny’s 89th: JUNE 22, 2008
I had *such* a crush on KITT when I was younger. ... which actually causes a lot of angst when you realize you're in love with a car and there is no way a relationship will ever work... :P Oh to be young again.
@thehappyfella yup, you were born 15 years too late; I was born in 88, but by the time I was 5, all these shows were in syndication, so I basically watched all these shows in the 90's (My Dad was a huge fan of all these shows, so I always sat with him and just watch these shows with him)
They used to show this in Bangladesh where I grew up back in the 80s, we could barely understand all the details of a story but still I hardly ever missed an episode - it was the Wednesday knight Rider night, all homework had to stop for an hour :)
@twobit211 Of course, I google it and come up with this: "In a third season episode of Knight Rider, "Halloween Knight", the episode villain is shown briefly in a Cylon mask. KITT's red LED forward scanner throughout the series, of course, is an homage to the Cylon's red eye, which oscillates back and forth while active while using the same sound effect. Both series were created by Glen Larson."
Peter Parros as 'RC3', Reginald Cornelius III got to be in the final scene of the “Knight Rider” series in “Voo Doo Knight” (4/4/86), bookending his first appearance in the season 4 premiere, “Knight of the Juggernaut”. Endless chatty throughout the series, KITT is reduced to a silent prop in the final scene. Unrelated: “The what was talking?” asks William Daniels, voice of KITT, in “The Graduate”-15 years before “KR”-before introducing son Benjamin BRADdock (DUSTin HOFFman) in a diving suit
"'Knight Rider', a shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist... ... ...Michael Knight, a young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, the powerless in a world of criminals who operate above the law!".
My favorite episodes were in season 3 and 4. Why? Because of the green lighted gas pedal addition to KITT. It was awesome to see it light up when KITT drove himself or when Michael pressed it with his foot & the green lights lit up on the sides. TV now has gone to the dogs totally! It'll NEVER be as good as it was in the 70's & 80's, and some 90's shows were awesome too, like Boy Meets World, Step by Step, Seinfeld, The Nanny, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, 7th Heaven, but now? ha ha, No Way! :(
Absolutely! And I bet the demand for black Trans Ams were so high back then that Pontiac couldn't keep them in stock! Man, whatever happened to the good ol' days???
A few days or a week ago, I saw a picture on google images that showed KITT behind a trailer truck, and I saw some kind of tow cable infront of the car then when I took a quick look at 0:57, I made a soft grin on my face and said, "I KNEW they DIDN'T use a tow cable."
"A man who does not exist". I get the impression that the writers of the show loosely based Knight's adventures against Dr David Banner's in the Incredible Hulk.
KITT in Season 3 is kind of like a combination of Seasons 1-2 KITT and Season 4 KITT. He receives the upgraded dashboard which he also has in Season 4, but like Seasons 1-2, still doesn't receive Super Pursuit Mode or Convertible Mode yet.
Michael Knight, a young loner on a crusade to champ the cause of the innocent, the helpless, the poweless in a world of criminals who operate above the law.
@NikKast1981 He wants to. The writers who agreed to make a new Knight Rider wanted to change too much so he didn't want any part of it really. I'm surprised that he even made an appearance on the new series in the pilot episode in 2008.
@NikKast1981 It wouldn't be the same. Hes not as spry as he used to be. He can't go sneaking around wherehouses and office buildings and the sort. He might break a hip. Theres also the issue with the Firebird not being in production anymore. So its not like NBC can just go buy them off the lots like in the 80s.
I am from Slovakia and I watched only Austrian version of Knight Rider in the age of communist (special antennas to get broadcast signal from Austrian's TV ORF). :D
I'm wondering what font was used to make KNIGHT RIDER (:11) at the start of the opening. Is it a font that exists today, in 2011? The extended tips on the "N" and "H" aren't immediately familiar. If only CBS News could have checked fonts more closely, then Dan Rather wouldn't have had to apologize (producer Mary Mapes was fired) for "60 Minutes II" memogate. Lieutenant Colonel Jerry B Killian's typewriter model couldn't have produced the documents in question; the font was not yet created
I have always wondered why, given the success of the series in its time, Pontiac and General Motors never had the idea of launching a special model or even a limited series incorporating the main characteristics of Kitt (seeing it red on the hood, the muzzle with the additional headlights and the digital dashboard). Many had, moreover, apparently claimed it when the series was launched. However, from what I have heard, Pontiac and GM were not at all enthusiastic about the idea and prohibited the producers of the series from mentioning the name of the brand or model in the episodes ! Do you know why ?
@DarkSlayer487 They can buy them from collectors and the short who i am sure would sell or even give them to NBC in order to see a new series....As for David yes he is old but its not like he was doing anything remarkable in the original series, we're not talking about a martial artist....
While the Original will always be better, I think the did at least a decent job. They didn't let this kid BE Micheal Knight They made him his son, which is great for ppl who have been watching it for ever. Plus they do play Homage to the original Kitt, Letting you know he had upgrades. I have watched ALL the Knight Rider series and I don't mind the new one. I even get the chills same as I did when I was a kid watching the car. Lets face it the car is and always will be Micheal's Hero.
That purple desert effect with the music is pure class
I always thought so
Never gets old. One of all my time favorite shows. I have all 4 seasons on DVD. Would love to see this on Blu ray.
I'm watching the whole show in HD, it's like watching it for the first time.
Nothing on earth beats the 80's!!
nope
KITT will
Tomas Michael knight
Yeah agree with u
It's been 30 years, and it's still a great show with something for everyone - guys love KITT, chics love Hasselhoff, great intro music - perfect match. No TV show since then has been that cool. Man, that car still looks cool even after all these years!!
Obi Ezeilo I always thought guys tuned in for Bonnie 😁
Obi Ezeilo my brother I (TOTALLY) agree with you bro! So sorry for your loss he must be very kind guy if he loves knight rider 😢
Such a futuristic car designed in the 80's .. Its fuckin insane !
Always wonderful to see a car taking a turn at 200+ MPH AND NO ONE wore SEATBELTS!!
passive laser restraint system
As a kid in the backseat of my dad's car going round corners even at 50 was one of the best things about the 80s, flying from one side of the car to the other. Only beaten by climbing up in the back window and flying forward when he slammed on the brakes.

One of the best tv shows ever made!!!!I think i wanna cry.........
I have Knight Rider seasons one and two. It's a real tv classic.
im not old enough to have seen the old ones when they were first on but when i was about 5 they used to aways repeat them on sky, and now the new ones are out which are awsome and for the first time i think the originals and the new ones are just as good as each other, love knight rider and kitt is a legend

One Man can make a Difference
one man and his car
This TV show is the thing that made me into this car business madness... and this is what motivated me into the 458 Italia that I have right now.... What a dream-come-true...
This intro makes me wish my own car had a Turbo Boost
I always thought the line "In a world of criminals who operate above the law" was funny. Don't ALL criminals operate above the law, hence what makes them a criminal? Still one of the best shows EVER along with CHiPS and the A-Team. Long live the great 80's shows.

A great percentage of my childhood was watching Knight Rider
I loved watching this series as a young girl ;)) Wish I had a car like that ;D
@XxMistyChaserXx That's part of the charm...it's dramatic, it's a shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist!
Knight Rider, Airwolf, The A-Team....
All I can say is God bless the 1980's.
Hot car, hot voice, hot girls, hot guy, hot show. Thanks for posting!
Let's face it when we had terrific shows like this or the A-Team or Street Hawk to look forward to, we didn't need TH-cam. i was born in 1996 but im just in love withh all te old t.v shows lyk Knight Rider airwolf street hawk and the a team :D also like g1 transformers

KITT is still the coolest car of all time. The music and the pink background combo is also epic.
The song bring back memories..
The new dash in season 3 was spiffy. :)
I was born in 1991 and I loved this show. I first saw it on the Science Fiction network, and man, was I hooked.
Brings back so many great memories...oohhhhh. :)
The first 20 seconds are GODLIKE!
i miss my teens the eighties... there was no trouble everyone used to get on? nice weather and good times? and no wars or terrorism... and the A TEAM KNIGHT RIDER AIR WOLF AND STREETHAWK LOL!! i really miss it shame im old now too old!!!
the old knight rider is the best!
I remember my dad sat in the front room taping the intro music one week this was on.

Bad ass theme song and intro, all very spooky and conspiratorial like.
Exactly!..The technology presented even exceed the one these days; A Trans-Am like this in our street surely could turn heads yet...

Im from Slovakia and i watched the Slovak,Czech,Austrian,German,Polish,Hungarian and English version of Knight Rider :-)

@punkasswalrusV5
isn't this an oxymoron? the first line of the intro completely contradicts it self lol but it's so awesome
They used to show this in Bangladesh where I grew up back in the 80s, we could barely understand all the details of a story but still I hardly ever missed an episode - it was the Wednesday knight Rider night, all homework had to stop for an hour :)
I just love that speaker
i agree, knight rider is pretty awesome, i jsut started watching it on netflex a few weeks ago!
I'm intrigued by the fact that this only gets just 600,000 and Air-wolf gets 7 times as many views.
Kinght Rider.......the shadowy flank into the world of a man who does not exist.
@twobit211 Of course, I google it and come up with this: "In a third season episode of Knight Rider, "Halloween Knight", the episode villain is shown briefly in a Cylon mask. all hail to that series

My dad had a Ford Taurus with a digital dash. For me it was a K.I.T.T.

Man, whatever happened to the good ol' days???
I want to start a petition to make the Knight Rider intro music the national anthem of my country. It's too badass.
In Mexico we watched knight rider and mission impossible and the A team best shows ever
A few days or a week ago, I saw a picture on google images that showed KITT behind a trailer truck, and I saw some kind of tow cable infront of the car then when I took a quick look at 0:57, I made a soft grin on my face and said, "I KNEW they DIDN'T use a tow cable."
0:42 where you see KITT riding into the downtown skyline, is my favorite shot.
Agreed
Yep, so sleek and ultra cool 😎
Dam, that brings back memories . I have to find those episodes.
"A man who does not exist". I get the impression that the writers of the show loosely based Knight's adventures against Dr David Banner's in the Incredible Hulk.
I agree a lot of TV back then was goofd the only thing I can suggest is byu it on DVD at least then you can continue to enjoy it

The best tv series ever the best theme music ever why did they screw up the remake of this please make a movie with this car and kitt
When the guy says "above the law", the car actually goes "inside a building".
@NikKast1981 He wants to. The writers who agreed to make a new Knight Rider wanted to change too much so he didn't want any part of it really. I'm surprised that he even made an appearance on the new series in the pilot episode in 2008.
Série simplesmente fantástica!! Agora no Netflix!!
La mejor de la historia.
You know, East Germany had Knight Rider. It was a Trabant with a pocket calculator.
such an awesome show....
Makes me wanna use my black '89 Firebird to go out and save people.
I need to play this theme on my stereo whenever I drive my black '89 Firebird....

watching this is like a time travelling experience. i feel like i'm a little one again back in the 80s!
