The metal thing related to pregnancy that the lady trying to explain is about malay traditional method for confinement mommy. Heat the metal, wrap it with herbs and kain batik then massage it gently on your tummy. It helps reducing swollen, blood circulation etc. Heard it become famous in Taiwan and Hong-Kong recently since one of confinement massager lady start applying this method to a celebrity influencer and she loves it especially the corset technique.

2:50 - It is "lastik" ( slingshot ). Usually for shot monkey, squirrels, wild boars or other.
4:50 - A tool used for mothers after giving birth. The tool will be slightly heated, wrapped in cloth and rubbed on the abdomen. Also used to relieve joint pain.
7:45 - In *general* , it's called kuih karas or kuih jala. Real roti jala is yellow in color and soft
9:31 - They think you are good at speaking Malay.
11:15 - It is called *Kuih Telinga Keling* or *Denderam* / *Peneram*

Yup. And sedekah is adopted from Arabic language, since the kind act is very much encouraged in Islam. One famous saying of prophet Muhammad goes: *senyum itu sedekah.* This refers to smiling to (or for) others. Smiling to one's own self may sometimes be deemed as a sure sign of insanity especially in the absence of a phone

But in our version we use some sort of sugar ( gula Apong ) almost like brown sugar or gula Melaka but our gula Apong is slightly different mix with rice flour , wheat flour and water. Dear I chang , I hope that one day you can visit us in Sarawak and I will recommend this dish for you ( Mee Kolok, laksa Sarawak , Sayur Midin Belacan , Umai and maybe Kueh Chap ) Love from Sarawak

Wahhh jimmy you know how to wind and hurl the *gasing!* 👏👏👏 I also played that when I was a schoolkid, together with my *kampung* friends. But it was even more special because it was handmade, not by our fathers and grandfathers or uncles, but by us kids ourselves! We used nails, but the best part was the main body, we used *buah pinang* (betelnut) readily available in abundance because there was one *pokok pinang* very near our homes. We played the game called *pangkah* where we did a series of *one-two-som!* (rock, paper, scissors) at the beginning to determine who would go first, second, and so on. Then the first boy would wind up his betelnut gasing and hurl it inside a fairly large circle drawn on the ground with a stick. The 2nd boy then took his turn, aiming for the circle as well as the 1st boy's still-spinning gasing, in order to break it out of the competition! If your gasing got *pangkah-ed* and broke into two, there was no worry, there were plenty of betelnuts strewn on the ground nearby, just pick one, or more!

That thing that you mentioned related to "baby" is actually a hot massage stone (it's called "tungku") for mothers to warm up their stomach area to retract your vaginal muscle after childbirth. You put them on a stove to heat it and once it's heated thorough, you put them on clothes (traditionally we use the kain batik) and wrap them and put on some herbal leaves on the clothes to for medicinal purposes and gentle pat on the mothers stomach after child birth. It is also good during menstruation period for those with heavy menstruation pain. But be careful when it's hot, you will need to wrap it properly to prevent scalding/burn on your skin.

I enjoyed watching this little short trip to Pekan Rabu! Used to frequent way in the 80s when I was schooling in Alor Setar! At that time Pekan Rabu was still in rows of papan lots (wooden lots) , very authentic feeling each time you hear the cracking sounds from the floor. And so full of sooo many things back then. Packed with sellers and buyers. After the face lift, somehow I missed the authenticness of the feel of the old Pekan Rabu. Nevertheless now the complex provides better facilities and safer in terms of safety. iChang you are sooo good guessing the 'tunku' part - the shops that sells stones/rocks used for messaging for mothers during their confinement ( after giving birth to new born babies). Although communication was a little difficult as they dont speak English much, but both of you were not put off! All of you tried hard to communicate with some English and Malay words in between but somehow you understand each other! Bagus!!!!! Wahhh Jimmmy bagus lah you spinned the gasing!!! Not easy! Needs special skills, you are good lah Jimmy!!!! Enjoy KEDAH, much more to explore, take your time to explore and to discover, chill and relax! After giving birth, this is the traditional way for Malay ladies to strengthen their tummy/womb back to original form.
Usually they will heat it up, wrap it in a towel and apply it to the tummy/womb area.
It is customary for Malays to look after and treat themselved for 40 days after giving birth.
This is one part of several other treatment methods.
There are also do's and don'ts especially in what to eat and what not to eat after giving birth.
