Now that time has passed, I realize how big this win was Since Fed and Nadal started winning Slams, they haven't stopped (Nole also started winning them a couple of years later) This really makes Delpo, Stan, Murray and Cilic wins to feel a lot more special (Murray would've won a lot more if not for Big 3, Delpo could've won more if not for all his injuries, Stan had some beast Slams and Cilic played the tournament of his life after reaching que QF's) It's also a shame how guys like Ferrer, Berdych and Tsonga reached a final, but didn't manage to win Looks like the same fate for Nishikori's gen, with only him and Raonic getting to a final

I'm Nishikori's fan. Nishikori's fans are not crazy about his record, they like his personality ,play style or somethingelse. It would be great ,if anyone who was supported reachs the final. Indeed, it's a shame for big4's fans that they couldn't take part in the final, but that's not a comparison.

The way Cilic was playing this tournament I don't think ANYONE could've beaten him. Everything was working for the Croatian. A dream tournament and possibly dream set of circumstances that led to his only slam win.
Not the whole tournament. I am a Croatian, playing tennis as well, friends from my tennis club just trained with Cilic these days. We know him well. He played against Simon in the last 16.. Always struggled against him.. Didnt play the best match, it went into a decider. Cilic somehow pulled it of in the fifth set. After that something clicked and then from quarter finals Cilic showed up as unbeatable Cilic. He produced some incredible tennis.. Those 3 last matches against Berdych, Federer and Nishikori didnt drop a set and he was simply in the zone.

Very few top players, even the very best, can just sail through a big tournament like this. Like I said it was a dream path to the championships for Cilic and he earned it.
Cilic served great for sure. Forehand firing big time. Nishikori looked tired from the get go normally electric about the place great backhand seen none of it. Was surprised with his return too. Normally a solid returner. Cilic currently has had awful last 18 months.

The acoustics of the Arthur Ashe stadium were different up to 2015 because by 2015, construction on the roof already began and from that point on, the acoustics were never the same. I personally prefer the old conditions at the stadium and the old acoustics. Before the roof, the sound of the racket hitting the ball was a full sound, a power sound, but now it sounds like they play in a hangar, the sound being very flat and empty.
Well said, and as you correctly mentioned, I was referring to the "feel" of the stadium, as compared to the technical aspects. And, I agree on the sound front.
Nishikori defeated Djokovic in the semifinals, and Cilic defeated Federer in the semifinals. Nadal withdrew from the tournament before it began because of a wrist injury
