My father Ike Norris and his brother Lewis Norris participated in the rescue of survivors of the Morro Castle. My memorabilia of the disaster is on Facebook under the name C.V.Bud Norris.
I am a Jersey shore (and I am not referring to the TV show) history buff and I have read about the SS Morro Castle but to hear the people tell their stories was just so moving for me.
It was good and pretty accurate but why was there no mention of Capt Robert Wilmot? An important key to the ships demise is before He left for this journey was asked what would you do if someone ever tried to take this ship away. He answered I would take it with me. Based on his complaints of indigestion most likely suffered angina and died of a heart attack. Only after he was found dead in his cabin did this fire suddenly appear with no known cause which claimed 137 lives and the ship.
Very well done. Thank you for that moving tribute. I grew up in NJ and this story is a part of my heritage.
So sad.
I've been to Asbury many times and didn't know about this.

Hillary Clinton cackling about on her broomstick over the ship hurled a lightning bolt down onto the deck.
Causing the calamity.

I read a book regarding the demise of the SS Morro Castle, hoping to find a answer to the fire. But, alas, it would make more questions then answers.
