PON (and/or LECA) is the only way I can have Alocasias with more than 1 leaf at a time. I have slowly switched many other plants (Hoya, Schismatoglottis, Homalomena, Monstera, vining Philodendron, Maranta, Calatheas, Stromanthe, Peperomia, and even a few of my snake plants) to semi-hydro, mostly because I find rocky substrates easier to maintain. I really love the product you presented, especially in that it comes in different "pebble" sizes.
@@j4ynie they both work perfectly well 💚 the name ‘complete focus’ means it works for all plants, rather than specifically referring to its nutrient content 👍🏻 they’re all complete formulas
Hi Rachel. I've recently started using Pon and was fortunate to get a large bag of Lechusa. I decided to add some jumbo perlite as well as small leca just to lighten the weight of the larger pots. Also, I've put wicks in the pots to ensure my mix is taking up the water. So far it's working brilliantly for me, I love not having to deal with the mess that I make with soil and being able to reuse the Pon. I do wish we could get a coarser one in Australia, it may be out there but I haven't found it yet. Thank you so much for sharing your very informative video on Pon, I'm definitely a convert to semi hydro with Pon and even intend to switch a lot of my plants from leca to Pon.
Thank you for making this video. Im a beginner and loving pon so far. My little tip is that ive glued some little mesh circles onto the holes on your 14cm pots to stop the pon falling through.
I intend to grow my alocasias in pon. They are babies right now in stratum. I have had no luck with alocasias but these have made it over a week 😮 maybe I am onto something. Thanks for the tips 😊
Brilliant! Thanks so much, this is very helpful & confirms what I am doing. I’ve only used pon once & would like to expand my use, especially with Alocasia. I did transfer my Jacquline into pon when it started going dormant, all the leaves have come back miniature? Probably only 5cm high? Has this happened to you?
Yippie! I'm so glad that this was helpful for you! Surely you're a pro by now... 😂 I have experienced that before and it did take some time for the leaves to grow back larger, maybe this coming spring will help it out a little!

I'm exactly the same as you! I avoided alocasia like the plague until I tried them in Pon!
Is GT foliage focus enough when using Pon or will I need to switch to Complete?

I love hearing how different people do things! Proves there isn’t a one size fits all approach which a lot of people think there is 💚
The Plant Boys sell good sized Pon in Australia.
@@moiraslater8526 thanks. I have an account with them, so will have a look.

So glad you enjoyed it and found it useful! That's a great idea with the mesh!
Same, I keep my old window flyscreen for this purpose.

Oh yea, I’ve heard of stratum! Would love to give that a go! Best of luck!
Lechuza now has a large chunky size Pon but it’s not available in the united states yet.
It does indeed :) Hence why I added in the text to the video as I didnt realise they had come out with a chunkier version till I edited the video 💚

@@GrowingGreenNZ thanks for the quick reply - I was wondering that. Roll on spring 👍👍
Lechuza have a non fertilised mix now too
Yes, they do! Hence why I added the little bit of txt into my video stating that they do now have a fertiliser free mix :)
Do you let your reservoir dry out before watering again?
Not completely, I usually change the water every 3-4 weeks and it takes a little longer than that for it to dry up :)
