I never write on these comment threads but am totally compelled to do so in this case. Just wanted to say A MASSIVE THANK YOU. Saved me wasting any money on scam ' tec' companies that don't actually work or back up your device online. Clear, concise and to the point but the best part about this is your advice and walk-through 100% worked for me (using a broken black screen S6) Saved me such a head ache and would have wasted good money after bad if I hadn't come across this. CHEERS MATE!

i literally tried everything the phones screen is dead i am not able to
1.allow a bluetooth mouse to work or a keyboard to work so i can't connect a pc while having a keyboard connected so i can press enter to hopefully allow the file transfer window if enter does that
2.allow the pc to connect to do a file transfer
    what i tried so far
nfc keyboard nothing happens when i tap them together
connect the phone to a pc and using smartswitch it just says it's not allowed to as i need to have a keyboard connected simultaneously and i have no way of connecting one i only have one otg port i even tried a usb hub now i have ordered a new hub with usb type c
i tried booting into recovery but half of the time i don't know what i am pressing i somehow managed to get into adb sideload but it never works properly if i could open recovery then tap the volume up button over and over again to know i am at the top then go down the steps i need to but that doesn't work i have no idea why
i tried flashing twrp in recovery it doesn't work i have no idea why
what does work is unlocking the phone as it changes the message in smartwitch to this phone is locked to this phone is not allowed so that part works display touch also works the display is just dead, i hope the new usb hub i ordered will let me connect to a pc while connecting to a keyboard as then i can hopefully press enter to allow ptp if enter works for that window
    i am using a galaxy a5 2017

In order to help people that have such problems, I created this video that can help you in several situations, even if your screen or touch is not working, this is the purpose of this video tutorial, but as I said in the video, it cannot work in all the cases. You can try to watch the entire video and see if there is any procedure that can apply to your case and see which one is working for you. In addition, on some phone models, you can use a usb/hdmi dongle to connect the phone to a TV / Monitor for display. Or you can try to restore to another phone, the backup from Samsung or Google account, only if you have previously configured them on the phone with the broken screen, as I show near the end of the video.
Some of procedures are easy and some of them are difficult, that is why I wish you good luck! If you succeed, please let me know which one worked for you.

Genius! Thank you so much Narcis. The lower 2/3 of my cracked screen was black (upper third visible and touch responsive), but even the non-visible part of the screen could still register my touches. I used the USB mouse to enter my PIN--I never would have known that trick without your video. Once I was able to unlock my phone I was able to run a Google Drive backup. That got my settings to the new device, but did not allow me to get my SMS/MMS data, which I really wanted, but found a work around. Because I had insurance, I received a replacement phone that was exactly the same (Samsung S8) as my broken phone. Using the new phone as a "mirror" I was able to touch the correct parts of the broken screen to download an app called SMS Backup and Restore. I ran an SMS/MMS back up and the app restored all my messages to my new phone. Thank you so much for your video!

I love how detailed this is. Have a like. Another thing to mention would be using the MHL adapter/cable to connect the phone to a TV/Monitor and then proceed with the file backup (If the Touch Screen is not broken as well) to an SD card on the phone and then use an OTG adapter to transfer the files to the PC and then to a new phone.

This was quite helpful because obviously my display decided to not work anymore the day before I had a major backup planned. The display is still fully displaying, just not reacting to touch anymore. The buttons still work as well.
My phone is locked so the Smart Switch option wasn't working. I'm expecting an USB OTG adapter tomorrow for my USB mouse so I can at least unlock my phone and switch on bluetooth. Now I'll see if either the Side Sync can help or if I can connect a bluetooth mouse (I'll buy one just in case), my old phone is a J5 (2015), but it has been updated to Marshmallow, so I really hope this will work, because I heard using USB OTG is supposed to work with anything higher than Android 4, but I have read that it potentially doesn't work depending on the J5 version you own... And you mentioned bluetooth mouse would only work with Android 6 and up...
Maybe I can get my phone to back up my google account via WiFi. Because then I'll be able to just restore it on my new A70. (We currently don't have WiFi where I live, we will have it again at the beginning of October, so there's no new back ups at the moment. But I can go to a coffee shop or university and log into WiFi there to back it up).
Thank you for all your tips! I was really stressed out because Smart Switch wouldn't work and even connected with a cable the Windows explorer said my phone was empty. Should this be the case tomorrow I can try and enable the developers mode and try and get my data that way.
Thankfully my contacts are saved in a special cloud service and all my images and videos are on my SD card.
It's still a really big hassle though, so I'm glad you gave so many tips. With my new phone I'll definitely enable google back up whenever I'm in WiFi so I won't have this issue again.

Im trying to recover anything from my Galaxy S2 from long ago. The phone charges and powers on (lights and sound) but the screen is black. I've tried plugging it directly into my computer and it makes a sound like its charging but no option pops up for me to retrieve anything. Is there somewhere I should be looking (a file), or do you think thats an indication theres a password on it (sadly I can't remember what itd be if there was a code on it). Your videos are very informative, thank you!

On Galaxy S2, if SmartSwitch doesn't work, you should try also the Kies application from Samsung. Also if you had an Google account configured on that phone, you should try to see if you have a backup in Goole Drive from that phone.

I looked up places to repair it and I called them but they said the repair for a new screen and battery would be 300 dollars. Do you think i could be able to use the mouse method because i have a pattern and unlock the phone and transfer the data to a new upgraded phone just using the mouse?

    • @NarcisDitiu

You can try. There are a lot of variables, so I cannot say if it will work for you or not. In order to help people that have such problems, I created this video that can help you in several situations, even if your screen or touch is not working, this is the purpose of this video tutorial, but as I said in the video, it cannot work in all the cases, and also there are situations that people broke only a part of the screen and still can use the remaining part.

If your screen is totally broken connect your phone to the HDMI cable to display on any screen. You will be shown a padlock screen, to overcome this.
Use a dongle that has HDMI and USB port.

I had the same problem. I have read a lot in many (comments in) clips. These steps (pushing with thumbs, tapping, freeze method etc.) did not help me with my LCD screen issue. Or make screenshots with the OTG (on the go) cable connected to a monitor which is also helpful. For me the OTG didn’t helped. I bought a HUB in witch you can put a monitor (hdmi), mouse (usb-a), keyboard (use a usb-a to sub-c converter for the keyboard port). This did also not helped in the beginning, which is very frustrating and I already had an appointment at a repair shop. Luckily after a few hours trying to make connection with the HUB, somehow the software Dex made a connection with the HUB through the monitor. So when the HUB is connected with all the cables in it, you can press the mobile power button one time and/or backspace onetime or mouse to see something on your monitor, but normally this shouldn’t be necessary. But take note that it may take time for the software to recognize the HUB/monitor and for yourself to find the knowhows of how to make connection with your devices. Also my S21 ultra was in flight mode. If this wasn’t the case you have the possibility to go to Samsung fine my phone website and unlock your phone. So when I had connection with my HUB on the monitor I stopped the flight mode, I went to setup > accounts and back-up and made a backup of my files in the Samsung Cloud and for my pictures/movies in the Google photo app (I bought 200 GB in the Google cloud). You also have the possibility to connect an external hard drive in the HUB so then you don’t have to buy GB. Also I put the USB debugging on in the developers mode.
