It is the confidence in the knowledge he imparts that makes you want to listen. And I did, and still do. Not some know it all BBC twat, but a man that wants you to share his experience and learn so that you can feel what he feels. He will never be replaced. As unique as DNA.
Fred understood and appreciated what made Britain great during the Industrial Revolution. Since then we have been made to feel ashamed of our great achievements and industrial heritage. Fred was a great patriot and a proud Englishman RIP.

From great bridge constructions to shipyards,heavy industry, light industry,mills,docks,armed forces,miners... heck. You name it. They were proud of what they did. And with good reason. From his shop at his home in College Park Georgia he had the giants of industry come in hopes he would take on their repair work whether in replacement or refurbishment. His mahogany scrap pile sold for 26K in 1979 to a Connecticut man who wrapped every piece in 2 inches of cotton and burlap. I've always wished I had inherited his skill but like Fred Dibnah he was one in a million.
What a wonderful Man ! one of the most interesting people on Television. He always showed total enthusiasm for our heritage. We're lucky that Fred did get spotted and was able to provide us with some great entertaining and insightful television before he died.
