Life with Fred (Spring Again) part 1 A repeat broadcast from 1995 of the BBC2 series about Bolton Steeplejack Fred Dibnah which was first shown in March 1994. Date: Thursday 23rd February 1995
Love fred dibnah absolute legend miss him he was a great person really said that I never had a chance to meet him as he died in 2004 3yrs after I was born
Fun fact. The tallest brick stack ever built in the UK was actually in Scotland outside Edingurgh. It was over 400 foot and had to be reduced several times due to rotten mortar before eventually being dropped .The tallest stack now is also in Scotland and is 307 feet.(or was)
People did look older then. Parents of young children back then looked like they were in their early 40s, yet today they all look like they just left school a week earlier. I suppose alot of blokes in the 80s grew mustache's like Kevin Webster which seemed to be a trend back then, so it probably made em look older. I wouldn't say people are healthier though now, all the crap junk takeaway food and supermarket rubbish which is just processed doesn't help, even the fruit and veg loses its nutrients because it takes so long to get from the field to the shop, but I doubt people are ever going to grow their own food in any time soon.
@@Embracing01 Its a shame what's happened to Fred's belt driven workshop in recent years. I understand a steam engine magazine called Old Glory did a big news story on the sale of the stuff in the back garden. I believe the guy wanted 15 pounds for one of Fred's ladders. I don't remember reading any information on what Fred's hand tools and belt driven workshop tools went for. I understand the guy originally wanted to return Fred's workshop to steam but because they couldn't rise enough money to have a new boiler made. they decided to sell it off. I hope Fred's tools will be used to repair steam engines.
To be able to say that you worked with Fred Could open up door's otherwise closed to mear mortals. Fred was a all rounder. Well missed buddy, Right said Fred 🍀🇮🇪
Today people would think Jack was Fred's great grandson lol. Lots of people these days who are only in their early 40s and they are already grandparents, probably because they had their kids when they were barely out of school. When I was young a grandparent was someone who looked like a grandparent should look, someone old with grey hair, usually in retirement age between the age of about 55-70, now they're getting younger and younger like the parents. No wonder people think there's too many people in the world lol.
wow FRED is hitting nails on the head! thank god hes not alive today to witness the decay of society and the sheer contempt for the Eglish culture and history! like he said at the end of the Roman Empire!
@@seventeesweremagic I always thought that Fred's first wife that the daughter, or at least the boy with the dark hair (I think he had dark hair) where Fred's children, but apparently they weren't. Must've been from her previous marriage. Nor sure about her daughter, but I'm sure Fred said he had a daughter. I wonder where they all are now?. I'm guessing Sue is still alive as she wasn't that old in this series.
8:44 i wish more women were still like this. My best friend married a woman that works 20 hours a week. He works roughly 50(+/-) on the farm. When he walks in the door she hands him a list of chores to do. She says times have changed and refuses to do more than half of the house work. He's weak for putting up with it but she's rotten for doing it to him.
Today he wouldn't stand a chance. Imagine him going on a dating site and putting on his profile "hobbies and interests: stepplejacking and traction engines and anything to do with the industrial age" lol.
Seems nice, I don't like the homosexual comment though, still stuck in the past with that (as a gay man myself). But otherwise, he seems like a good dude and leads an idealic life.
Plenty of women like that. At least Fred's wife seemed decent, Most blokes are married to right bi*ches and control freaks. Today most couples don't stay together for long, divorces are really common now unlike years ago. I think TV plays a big part in the break up of relationships and all the crap they are watching like soaps and realty TV like Love Island where men lust for some the "perfect" woman and all their brainwashing. plus now we have social media which is affecting peoples minds.
Thought I watched them all then found this. Probably the happiest and most pure I have seen this man.
When Fred said how we have had our time. How right he was 😢
Fred was a legend, hearing him talk about his kid was nice
Fred didn`t have a stop button. Always in motion. RIP Fred.
This man was a legend. Hard as nails and an incredibly nice guy.
I like how she says she doesn't expect him to do half of the housework, but really she does. It's like him expecting she does half of every chimney.
Love fred dibnah absolute legend miss him he was a great person really said that I never had a chance to meet him as he died in 2004 3yrs after I was born
Fred's wife reminds me of Wallace's girlfriend Wendoline from A Close Shave. "Oh no! I can't stand cheese. Brings me out in a rash" 😂
Welcome the Northern England.
What is wrong about her? She is fine and completely fuckable :D
Fred had a great taste in engines and a terrible taste in women, and here's the proof.
6:30
Exactly. Weak wife, weak man.
I haven't seen this one, thank you for uploading!!
No worries, thanks
“I have a wash more now , I never used too “ 😂😂😂
That's me Grandad Bill Neale of Pleasley, in the County of Notts from 1921 to 2005. "A bath? What do I want one of them for?".
Fred's favorite shirt colour seems to be a shade of oil
These are gold!!! Thanks so much for uploading!!!!
No worries
@@Embracing01 I believe Fred was very supportive of the steam apprentice club founded by the national traction engine trust
I would have loved to have known this man,, could you imagine going for a beer with him, you'd never stop smiling.
bloody heck aint fred got enough to do for gods sake . WOMEN .

Hell yeah. Scottish chimneys FTW.
@@chrisbeech4458 I know, right! I fucking hate information too.
Well us Scots are closer to god after all
@@chrisbeech4458 you can’t beat interesting facts lol.
The way he balanced on the scaffolding like it was his living room at 7.20.
Fred is so right about us being like the end of the Roman Empire. Britain was on the downfall as soon as we entered WW1
Another gold digger who let him down
Why did people look so much older back then? Guys in their 50s and early 60s now look mostly so much better!!!! Fit even in some cases
A lifetime of hard manual work

Can anyone hear Carnival in Venice without thinking of Fred
Fred's wife took an even keener interest in his bank account I hear 😏
Poor old Fred having to do housework 😂
Fascinating that Rome "went queer and homosexual " and then went downhill never knew that gosh thanks Freddie
Jeeezz he scaled that ladder with no safety rope and it didn’t bother him one bit, 😱.
Thanks
