Full Burst Combo --> reload --> Shell --> Stepping Slash --> Wyvern Stake Combo --> Wyvern Stake Blast (x2) Is fucking beast of a combo. You can only squeeze in one Wyvern Stake Blast, but it does a significant amount of damage when used against a downed Alpha Doshaguma. Another alternative is just triangle + circle twice into the new combo and concluding it with the Wyvern Stake Blast. The Monster Hunter team made sure we had a feast with the Gunlance this time around. I haven't been able to put the weapon down since I started the demo.
Lance mains are also happy about the blocking changes. I personally am very happy to see blocking become an actually good defensive option! Wilds is going to be the first game I actually try and play gunlance, and I'm looking forward to trying wide. From what I've heard about the weapon, that's a normal shelling focused style, and I would much rather use that as a go-to with the occasional full bursting. Helps my lance brain too because all them guard points I'm gonna be gettin.
I haven't gotten to play yet but it seems there's a lot more opportunities for animation cancelling into blocking than in any of the previous titles, but I'm just going by videos. This is a great change to lance, but I'm somewhat surprised that Gunlance got it as well, I was sort of expecting animation cancelling into guard being a sort of Lance gimmick but it seems other weapons are getting it too.
Hmmm, one lance main here and I while it's awesome to have a perfect guard into our regular block, overal the weapon felt more sluggish to me. I felt the pokes where slower (which comparing footage with World confirmed) and the ability to cancel the endlag on said pokes with Counter Stance (which is removed and replaced by a direct Power Guard) is gone or at least a lot longer. Sure you can use a regular guard, but that comes out way slower than counter stance used to do, it doesn't cancel the animation. Of course this is my opinion, but I was disappointed with how sluggish lance felt compared to the last two games. And I know Rise is a bit more arcade'ish and faster, but the lance seems to be even slower than World's lance now and no amount of charged or triplepoke finisher is going to make up for it for me. That being said, I am loving the Swaxe even more now. having two offset/counter attacks, especially the R2 + Triangle one in sword mode, is just chef's kiss. Edit: Ironically with the sped up guard on Gunlance, and the guard point on Quick Reload, this weapon is feeling better now than Lance did for me. x)
Amazing explanations. I've always liked the idea of gunlance but it was too immobile for me in past games. I've been thinking of taking CB+GL in Wilds and with how this was presented I will at least have a good grasp on the basic combos. Keep up the good work!
Gunlance has always been one of my worst weapons because as a Lance main my muscle memory constantly causes me to make mistakes, but I’ll have to give in another try for Wilds.
Gunlance had an absolute glow up this time around. The number of combos and combo mixups is so much more fluid and fun. Think I'm still going to main switch axe, but GL has solidified itself as a top 3 for me in Wilds after this beta.
I think what might help you with making the consecutive backhops in a forward direction would be to change your stick control setting to style 2. This changes it so that the back input is relative to your character rather than the camera, so all you need to do is turn your character around, backhop normal, and then pull back on the stick and hit x again to do a long backhop. Hope this might help! (this also helps greatly with general mobility with directional hopping/attacks for weapons like lance and gunlance if your camera is a different angle from your character!
Ruri you literally inspired me to run Gunlance in wilds. Also my best friend is running Lance so that’s gonna be fun. I’ve been playing it in the beta but this will be insightful as hell.
Ruri...that was amazing! I've been trying some weapons and some of them still don't click on my brain with the new moves. Looking forward for more little guides like this one! (Specially hunting horn)
The fact that gunlance now has such nice fluidity to it now compared to MH: World is exactly what I wanted. I always found myself just doing a overhead slam > Full burst --> repeat. It felt like there weren't much else to do in most scenarios past that as any other moves either had long animations without guardpoints or just didn't feel impactful enough. This showcase ticked all the boxes for me
I love the new emphasis on the Shells! Wide Sweep followed by "RAAA!" into Wyrmstake into "RAAA!" into Wyrmstake followed by 2 Wyvernfires xD And yes shelling in World took you into Red after like 3 Fullbursts... Now however... Just keep on blasting! :D
I gotta be honest I tried gl in world, could not vibe with it at all but wilds looks amazing. Looks super fluid than it used to be. Definitely going to try it in the next few days.
something i heard from caos that i dont think u mention here.. shelling while empty puts u to a quick reload, and u can do the various follow ups after one
It’s gonna be my first time attempting to play a shield weapon in this series. It’s never worked well for me before but the simple fact that we can take two weapons now makes me want to try again! This way if I’m getting blown back I can swap to a weapon I’m familiar with to get myself some space
So is there anything stopping you from charged shelling and wyvernfire hard to reach/elevated targets like wings with focus mode? (Not sure on the charged shell range?)
I tried gunlance yesterday and I have to say, it went from no interest to possible main instantly lol. Now I have to decide between this, great sword, insect glaive(most fun for me so far), and lbg
I'm 99% sure I'm going to main gunlance with switch axe in the bag. I dont care to min/max with the hunting horn I just want to have fun. But these two weapons are pretty much my favorite so far.
Ugh, thank God i can bring two weapons with me now. It takes a lot to pull me away from the horn, but having this in my literal pocket will be so good. Not to brag, but I tend to be so good with gl that i only put it down because things were too easy, now it seems like it will be way too fun to put down for very long.
12:22 Did you just do a quick reload from neutral? Or is it because there is already Wyrmstake charge so it became quick reload instead of full reload?
Is there an option to toggle focus mode instead of holding it? Or better yet click once to enable, click again to disable and hold to only have it for the duration you hold the button?
Pro tip u dont always need ghille mantle for sneak attacks. So long as the monster is chill u can get one for free then put ghille mantle on for another sneak attack. Ive gotten 6 sneak atttacks on one rey dau😂😂😂
Damnit ruri what have you done to me...i thought i was set on 2 weapons n now you single handidly have put gunlance to the top of my list with your propagander 😅
Didn't know about the faster wyvern fire and the mount slam. They must recharge faster that way because it was taking forever to get back despite doing regular full burst constantly. I wonder if there are only certain moves you can power clash because I got like 3 perfect guards in a row and didn't get it once.
Getting used to focus mode is rough, cause you gotta hold the button down right? I wish there was a toggle instead, just hit it once to enter, hit it again to exit
Hmm... this isn't the character model I saw in ur livestream Not complaining Lmao noticed ur cat's called Gaijin Ok now that I know how the new moves work gaddamn Capcom cooked, can understand why u'ld want to go double GL
I’m positive capcom knows this. This is a beta build that has been in the works before it even released. Betas don’t often have the same performance as on release and we’re still several months out. Plus, world had a similar issue too where the betas/demos didn’t have great performance but was improved on release
we must stay on focus mode brothers... we must stay focused
The guild provideth, brother...

I am focused on this new character Ruri has...

that quick shielding is insane!
Gunlance mains unite! Takes me back to the MH World days where I would watch your gunlance guides on repeat to get every detail! Thanks!

Gunlance (at least in the demo) seems to be super solid and fun.
I just like that you can go full on desperado with those shell steps, cowboy drip is now a priority for me for my gunlancing.
Amazing explanations. I've always liked the idea of gunlance but it was too immobile for me in past games. I've been thinking of taking CB+GL in Wilds and with how this was presented I will at least have a good grasp on the basic combos. Keep up the good work!
This is the much needed change I've been waiting for a decade.
Okay so....when I get to the beta tomorrow: Hammer/Gunlance
Got it!
@Jahranimo_ you're gonna love Hammer it's so fun (a psn enjoyer)
You're gonna love Hammer it's so fun! (A psn enjoyer)
@@ExSoldier101 I can't wait! Hammer main since base World 🙌🏾 (and a little bit of MH4U)
Charge Blade for me, as for the secondary?
I'll figure that out later
I see Gaijjin decided to join you
Man, the interaction with the attacks and the sand are pretty cool! Can't wait for Thursday!
I am glad you are making some guides rurikhan, I hope you do something too for sns and charged blade
Gunlance has always been one of my worst weapons because as a Lance main my muscle memory constantly causes me to make mistakes, but I’ll have to give in another try for Wilds.
Fr everytime is use GL from Lance I always forgot to dodge because GL shield isnt as good as Lance shield
Gunlance had an absolute glow up this time around. The number of combos and combo mixups is so much more fluid and fun.

They nailed the rework. Seems like I'll be a Gunlance main yet again. Great guide btw.
I’m very excited to get my hands on the gunlance. Can’t wait for the weekend to get here.
With perfect block being integrated into GL, I hope Offensive Guard returns as a skill, get a DMC royal guard build going.
feels like gunlance is finally on par with all the other weapons without all the limitations set on it from previous games

.....ruri, you finally convinced me, i'm going to main gunlance in wilds ❤
Beautiful video Ruri!
I mean I did some fair share of Gunlance gameplay back in World, Iceborne and Rise. But Wilds is totally a game changer. Indeed, rise up ironbreaker!
Gunlance is absolutely amazing in this game! Definitely going to be my secondary in the full game.
HH/Gunlance is my main combo right now EXPLOSIVE DOOTS!
HELL YEAH! DOOT BOOM BOOM, BABY!
Gunlance looking gloriously explosive!
I love the new emphasis on the Shells!

- Boots up video.
- Doesn't even watch yet.
YES. Next question.
One dev at Capcom: “I mean, what if bullet barrage was broken up into a combo?”
Everyone else: “dude yes!”
I love the new great jagras. great guide.
Good to know the burst sweep combo's still a thing.
It’s gonna be my first time attempting to play a shield weapon in this series. It’s never worked well for me before but the simple fact that we can take two weapons now makes me want to try again! This way if I’m getting blown back I can swap to a weapon I’m familiar with to get myself some space
ive been playing gunlance in the beta and i am enjoying it a lot. the ability to do two wyvern fires back to back is cool too.
Awesome, thanks Ruri
Wow. I might be a gunlance main after this one.
Absolutely loving the range on wyvernfire and that it can be aimed with focus mode. Feels like a distant cousin of the heavy blowgun haha
*waits patiently for the Lance guide*
Duuuude, this takes me back to 2018, when I was trying to figure out how to use this weapon and I found this guy called Rurikhan...
Time to pick back up the gunlance
Double wyvern blast made me blast.
So is there anything stopping you from charged shelling and wyvernfire hard to reach/elevated targets like wings with focus mode? (Not sure on the charged shell range?)
With lance and gunlance on mount you have to hold the attack button to basicaly joust (and shell) and im all in for it :D
Yes I should try it 😊
But you won’t cause GREAT SWORD is here
Let's show you a hunt,..... SHELL we? 😜
If you just mash triangle and circle you will do the double full burst wyrmstake combo. That’s how I figured it out lol.
This is nothing like MH World Gunlance! I will have to relearn entire weapon :D
Rats. I was going to play a different weapon this game. But I may have to do Gunlance again even though I just did it in Worlds.
Can't wait, let's go
Ugh, thank God i can bring two weapons with me now. It takes a lot to pull me away from the horn, but having this in my literal pocket will be so good. 12:22 Did you just do a quick reload from neutral? Or is it because there is already Wyrmstake charge so it became quick reload instead of full reload?
Is keyboard + mouse (on a 4 button + wheel) much more advantageous in this game unless you C-grip the controller?
I think we can change the focus mode to toggle instead of push and hold to activate. I might keep using the toggle mode to make things easier lol
Is there an option to toggle focus mode instead of holding it? Or better yet click once to enable, click again to disable and hold to only have it for the duration you hold the button?
I'm gonna say it. Screw Capcom dude. Screw them for making my weapon main choice for every game hard as hell because they're all so damn fun dude.
This version of gunlance requires so many less brain cells as before, I think I'll be maining hammer with a sparkly gunlance on my hip
i missed these. you tought me to use the swaxe
Is that barrel only available during tutorial or can we set one up at camps later? please and thank you 🙏
Gaijin is there on his true form
Gunlance players eating good in Wilds! Took long enough...
Shell-Step looks so sick, so does the dismount full burst
Pro tip u dont always need ghille mantle for sneak attacks. So long as the monster is chill u can get one for free then put ghille mantle on for another sneak attack. Ive gotten 6 sneak atttacks on one rey dau😂😂😂
did they add a small sparkling visual to the shield When guard point are active??
Damnit ruri what have you done to me...i thought i was set on 2 weapons n now you single handidly have put gunlance to the top of my list with your propagander 😅
is this Normal shelling gunlance guide? Seems like nothing has changed to much for long and wide shelling gameplay
Gunlance is good as secondery weapon for charge blade?
chef's kiss
Do you think the shelling no costing sharpness might be a bug?😊
And here we go
Didn't know about the faster wyvern fire and the mount slam. They must recharge faster that way because it was taking forever to get back despite doing regular full burst constantly. I wonder if there are only certain moves you can power clash because I got like 3 perfect guards in a row and didn't get it once.
How to: the pointy end goes into the monster.
how do you access the training area?
That wyren fire got more dmge than TCS..😮
How do u enter this barrel training mode for this beta test ?
Is ledge hop gl still a thing?
so do you get blocking frames during wyvern fire like in rise?
No.
I’ve charged a few shells in my day
Getting used to focus mode is rough, cause you gotta hold the button down right? I wish there was a toggle instead, just hit it once to enter, hit it again to exit
Check the settings. There is an option to toggle Focus Mode.
There is.
@@rurikhan Oh than I have overlooked it, there are so many options, still its going to be tough to get used to it
Great tutorial. But how in the wilds do you get back to the tent with the barrel?
As far as i know, you dont, just create a new character and stay there
Different account, just keep a character there.
Nah I'm good. I prefer using my Charge Blade to slash, saw, and explode monsters. The nerf to shelling damage is a bit rough though. My condolences.
Shells will scale with Attack now, hence the nerf.
Shells scale with attack which is actually huge, especially when master rank eventually gets added
Hmm... this isn't the character model I saw in ur livestream
Not complaining
Lmao noticed ur cat's called Gaijin
Ok now that I know how the new moves work gaddamn Capcom cooked, can understand why u'ld want to go double GL
How long will this demo be available? Cuz if it just stays up I’m not going to stop playing it💀
On PC in pacific timezone it's from Thursday night to Sunday night. So sadly not very long
@@PixelCrabsoof I would have played until release🤣
Most surprising thing…Ruri is playing as a woman! Where is my red bearded dwarf???
That’s just a hunter I made for the tutorial barrel.
Pro tip with the long back dodge, you can use focus mode to access it easier!
Can it Doot? No? Then it'll be a secondary at best lol
Where's the LS tutorial? Also, you could have named your palico GaijinCat lol
No orange beard?!
I don't see, what you didn't do there ;)
please be vocal about the poor performance mode. this is a huge let down
I’m positive capcom knows this. This is a beta build that has been in the works before it even released. Betas don’t often have the same performance as on release and we’re still several months out. This video ruined MH World's Gunlance for me. =D
Does anyone wanna help me learn HH?
