    When this show was on the air I was a bar tender at the local Marriott hotel, every Sunday night when it came on everyone in the bar stopped what they were doing and came out to watch and I mean everyone, managers, kitchen staff, security guards, bus boys.....all cracking up. It truly was incredible....

    MWC was probably the best cast show of all time. The entire cast was gold, even the secondary cast members and the occasional characters. Al's friends, the shoe store customers, etc. All fantastic.

    • @w0bbl3r
      @w0bbl3r 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know. I would say the best cast sit-com of all time for sure.
      But there are other shows where they got the cast better. Though only slightly.
      And Katey Sagal was one of the main stars on one of those shows, sons of anarchy. Every casting choice was literally perfect for SoA. Breaking bad the same, and shows like the Sopranos, Boardwalk empire, better call Saul.
      There has been some true magic in casting for tv shows in the last 20 years or so. But MWC was pretty perfect, except some of the supporting or extras casting wasn't great. Some of the girls who would come in dating Bud or for Al to perv over, were awful. I get that they used models and so on rather than actors for a lot of it, but there seemed to be some real airheads there.
      But the main cast, including Steve, Marcy and Jefferson, were all pretty perfect. Though it took a couple of years for Faustino and Applegate to really get their characters right. But that may have been more of a writing problem than an acting problem.

      The Miami Vice cast was great too. Tubbs and Crockett are legends.

    • @kendallrivers1119

      YES! This cast, Sanford and Son, Frasier, Seinfeld, The Jeffersons, All in the Family, Hogan's Heroes, Cheers, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Martin, Barney Miller, Everybody Loves Raymond and The Golden Girls were casting magic. Every single character contributed so much to the show and not a weak link in the bunch.

    • @kendallrivers1119
      @kendallrivers1119 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@w0bbl3r May be a lot of dramas today hit the right notes casting but imo most sitcoms today miss the mark with few exceptions. On your point about Faustino and Applegate though I think it just took time because they were conceived differently but as Christina and David grew as actors Kelly and Bud grew. Every show does that though. Look at Seinfeld and how long it took to find all the characters.

    • @w0bbl3r
      @w0bbl3r 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kendallrivers1119 To be perfectly honest, I haven't found a sit-com worth watching (one where I don't just find almost every single character to be a horrible person that it's impossible to get behind) in years.
      Maybe even since around the time MWC ended.
      I think you're right about the kids in MWC, it was how the characters evolved as the writers and actors started to find what worked and what made the audience laugh and love about the characters. Even Al and Peggy changed, and Marcy changed a LOT. But she changed because her character became more man-hating after Steve left her I think.
      There aren't many shows in general these days, when you consider how many are being churned out (and then cancelled within a couple years) all the time.
      But there are some real gems in the mix. As I said, Sons of Anarchy, Boardwalk Empire, Sopranos, and best of them all was Breaking Bad (in my opinion), with Better Call Saul starting to turn out pretty much just as good, maybe even better if they nail this final season.
      Fargo has been another, with all three seasons being great.
      Entertainment in general is in decline these days though, from music to movies to tv shows.

    I'm from Edinburgh, Scotland and I remember telling my Mum & Dad (then in their 80's) about 'Married with children' which was then shown at 10pm on STV - when it was put back to midnight, the first thing my Mum wanted was for me to go and show them how to set the timer on the video so that they didn't miss an episode !. They used to talk about what went on in the show with family, friends, neighbours etc - they absolutely loved it - and tbh, it was strange as they never really rated American comedy but they LOVED 'MWC' - as much as I do !

    • @jeffextreme5498
      @jeffextreme5498 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or maybe people are really stupid nowadays. It was obvious from the beginning that everything was an exaggeration. It was excess. There wasn't real ill will against anyone or any group in particular. They had a dumb blonde who was extremely dumb. They had a lazy wife who did nothing but spend money and relished in it. They had an unsuccessful bitter man where his negatives were strongly embellished. Husband and wife both made fun of each other constantly. When they made fun of fat women, they were super fat. When they made fun of people who marry for money they made them completely despicable. When things were sexual, it was oversexualized. While there were bits of reality mixed in, it wasn't reality.
      That's why people who get it aren't offended by most of it. But if someone cannot recognize that then of course they won't like the show.
      Marcy was the perfect antagonist. Her and Al were fantastic together. And while they portrayed her character in tons of negative ways, they also made her successful in her career and pleased with herself.
      People like you are becoming really annoying. Instead of whining that because of cry babies the show wouldn't be on today, how about you point out why the show is actually not horrible or degrading?

  • @xxxhq2805

    Its their chemistry that was the core success of the show. They were a perfect family. They really thought of each other as real family n it showed in their performances. Even till now they're still a family, David n Christina its like Ed's son n daughter. They all keep in close contact with each other. Everyone except for Amanda Bearse(Marcy). The ironic thing is (which also ironically contributed to the show's success) is Irl behind the camera, Al n Marcy really didn't like each other, so really, they didn't really need to act, it was authentic lol which made it even better or in my opinion, perfect!! They all played their role perfectly!! My favorite is Al, Bud n Jefferson, but really, the others are not that far behind i just like them just a bit more. Katey played her role just as good as Ed did

    Christina Applegate originally didn't want to do the show and turned them down because she thought it was beneath her because she was on a soap opera and had no comedic training, even her mother thought she wouldn't be a good comedic actress. They hired a different girl and a different guy for Bud, but during the first filming for a test audience, there was no chemistry between the kids and with the other actors. The director and producer They kind of tricked CA and sent her and her mother a copy of the filming and asked them if they would view it and then come in and show them how they could make it better. They did the same thing to David Faustina. And when they came in and had them act out their ideas together, they just clicked and were hired immediately.

      I agree. Casting is everything. The chemistry of all the actors made this show iconic as much as the hilarious writing did.

    The four of them were like the perfect storm and when they came together it was just comedic genius.! I've belly laughed at Carol Burnett, Lucille Ball, etc. but the episode about Al's bad teeth had me rolling! His trying not to scream while biting down on ice chips was pure gold...so damn funny.
