Service Dog Cuddles 9-Year-Old Boy with Autism While Lying in Hospital

- While furry friends hold a special place in all of our hearts, Mahe, an assistance dog trained by Assistance Dogs New Zealand provided particularly crucial support to James Isaac, 9, in his time of need. James Isaac, from Wellington, New Zealand, has autism and suffers from seizures. But he welcomes the warm embrace of his black Labrador. The boy and his dog are inseparable - which was especially vital during James Isaac's stay in Wellington Children's Hospital earlier this month. #InsideEdition
I work at a shelter and almost all of our dogs are adopted out to be service dogs. We've had PTSD, autism, seizures, diabetes and countless other issues and watching these animals be able to help and visibly see the person calm down is so amazing

A service dog can be a miracle worker for people with autism. Ever since my brother got his service dog, it is like he has become a whole new person. He has had his service dog for over 4 years now. Having a friend (the dog) who loves him for who he is and being able to tell him everything that is on his mind has helped my brother overcome many of his obstacles.
I will have him in my prayers. God bless the entire family.
James is doing great, the MRI was pretty routine. Those of us in James's life are amazed at how far his story has gone and all the attention it has brought, especially to Assistance Dogs New Zealand who trained Mahe. James is an amazing kid who I am very lucky to work with and see every week. Mahe is an awesome companion and a great help for keeping James safe and calm out in public. He has opened up James's world so much. I am one of James's caregivers and work closely with him and Mahe (for almost 2 years now)

James is doing great, the MRI was more a routine thing...he was back to normal when I saw him the next day.

What did we do to deserve dogs?
We really don't but some ..some really deserve them and and some dogs just need us
We domesticated them. Fed them and gave them happy homes.
Breed them for 10,000 years to be our perfect companions. Don't act as if dogs just popped out of nowhere and just decided to be nice to us. Humanity is responsible for dogs as we know them today.

I can't sleep in hospitals since it's too anxiety provoking for me, especially when I have tubes and lines stuck in me since I hate needles. I asked if there were any therapy dogs to help me relax. Lo and behold this beautiful golden retriever was brought in and I was out like a light within 30 minutes; no sleeping aid needed. Throughout my stay there was always a dog near when I couldn't sleep.

I work at a place that trains dogs like these and I get to see them graduate and go to their families and it is such a magical moment I never forget.
