The director of the series sold me on it. He seems super earnest in telling a rick and morty show with a japense twist while respecting and honoring the original. I'm actually looking forward to this more than the next season of the show.

I may not be a big rick and morty fan but the fact that a actual anime based on the show is being made is pretty cool! It's so rare to see anime shows that are based on western cartoons. Like it happened before with Powerpuff Girls Z, and lilo and stitch the anime. And now this??? Wish we can have more anime shows based on western animated shows 😊
While not animations, Scott Pilgrim anime was also announced last year (same as Rick & Morty), Lord of the Rings is getting an anime film and Suicide Squad is getting an anime TV series. There is also an episode of Adventure Time directed by Masaaki Yuasa and animated by the Japanese studio Science Saru.
There are also many super heroes anime from the 2000s, including Wolverine, X-Men and so on.
I remember while finding random manga to read online, I stumbled upon a bunch of Disney stuff
- there was this like kirakira shoujo magical girl style that was kinda interesting (I think it's probably a little similar to one of the Disney Princess games, but haven't played/seen most of those + I tend to read action/mystery/horrors so idrk),
but animation wise, it's usually the superhero stuff like the above reply said
Indeed, and look at Panty & Stocking With Garterbelt, an anime that was based off of Western Animation, judging by the art style which looks similar to The Powerpuff Girls (1998), Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi, and Invader Zim and the crass, vulgar, crude, and raunchy humor which was inspired by Comedy Central's Drawn Together.
Heck, there is even a South Park reference in that one episode of Panty & Stocking With Garterbelt.

@@nas0518 there are actually references to South Park in the works of Tatsuki Fujimoto, creator of Chainsaw Man (including seemingly in Chainsaw Man itself) - it's a really popular show in Japan. I collect South Park badges and the crown jewel of my collection for me is a Japan-exclusive Craig and Tweek badge from the 25th anniversary pop-up shop (and I definitely want more Japanese ones).
The reason I always thought this show had so much potential was because you can never really run out of story lines with the multiverse theory at their disposal. Some cartoons struggle with discarding story lines by sometimes not having the time to develop them, or not making sense in that universe. But the thing with Rick and Morty they have this unique ability to not have to make everything make sense because theres the fall back of the fact it could be happening in another reality and they can come and go as they choose. So they sort of have this storytelling device to take the show in whatever way they choose to. So i'm glad to see it being put to use for a whole new spin on the now franchise because it really does prove how good this dynamic can be in all kinds of universes. The set up, with familiar characters with the same relations just experiencing new things in a new way its so profitable.

I’m honored that he has so much love and respect for this series that he wants to do his own spin on it
If you watched this video to the end, the creator/director gives a humble speech where he expresses gratitude twords just having the houour of parodying such legendary work as that of Rick and Morty. He's a huge fan of the original just like you and i, presumably. Consequently, it seems he exclusively desires to provide the masses with option to enjoy a little parady with a uniqe twist. And the truth is, as with most parodies, they never really compare to the original, but that's okay, bc its not what they intend to do. It can be successful in its own way and I'm honestly looking forward to watching the anime version.
Clever mode of side-stepping Roiland in both voice-acting and creative roles without that aspect feeling forced.
The main series always flirts with the idea of developing a sequential plot but then shames away from committing to anything too sincere, even mockingly so. It comes off as not having confidence in its narrative. So I'm excited to see what this team does with a ten episode mindset instead of just going to bat on episodic seasons.
Roiland was found not guilty though. But I know that doesn't matter because believe all women. Does show you that you don't own your own IP, so be careful.
@@MrVariant It's nearly unheard of for a creative to have a show produced without the producer owning the product. There are plenty of stories of people who pitched their shows to Nick or Disney only to be optioned and buried forever, not even legally allowed to talk about the thing they poured all their passion into. Nevermind situations like that of Infinity Train or Mao Mao or Megas XLR where the shows became tax write-offs and will almost certainly never continue or be legally available for purchase again.
Even just the accusation of criminal activity is grounds enough to stop working with someone and production studios are well within their rights to divorce troubled creatives from their work.
There are very few places in the world where a creator actually owns their IP when they work with a publisher. Despite the high-stress work conditions, Japan's manga industry is a notable exception. You may have heard of Bill Finger, who famously died in obscurity despite his many contributions to American comics--plenty of people are still bankrolling Batman without him and that man wasn't even accused of any crime. Welcome to the entertainment industry.
I could never fully explain this feeling I had with the sequential plot but you put it perfectly. The show would set up the plot as something that could be blossomed into something beatiful and amazing but never get there. Then it wraps it up like they kinda forgot about it but the fans wanted closure like if all the writers had ADHD or something.
This anime has been in production for a few years though. So it was a project that preceded any problems with Roiland. There's a few shorts they've done on youtube.

The Ren & Stimpy Show, SpongeBob (not talking about post 2018, talking about seasons 4-9) most Cartoon Network shows, any show where the creator has died during the series run (technically).
This version feels like it would hit so much more differently than the OG show, given how many different Ricks and Mortys are out there that should make sense.

Rick and Morty with an actual plot and character development would kinda go hard. The dramatic moments in the first couple seasons were legitimatetly pretty good.

Honestly I just always figured the fans were the reason for the pivot AWAY from the serious early stuff. The fan community was SUPER toxic for a good long while (not sure if it still is), and one of of their main points dumping on newer folks was that they just weren't smart enough to get it, show wasn't meant for them, etc. Things getting more like a sitcom in some ways, just had figured it was an attempt to move away from that sort of audience.

I love it! adding japanese twist to it is great as anime just like rick and morty is great at making intense stories with fun moments and the different vibes would make this quite unique and fun. That is if its done well but i have confidence that they didnt pick the wrong person to do it because they simply wouldnt pick the wrong person for such an amazing show.

Im not a fan of Rick and Morty, but hopefully this anime version would be more toned down in crude jokes and character focused with their usual weird adventures I've seen from memes
