When Morty drank the medicine, Morty turned to Rick (Rick yelled Morty's name not by his real name, instead Rick Sanchez) So Rick knew that he will reincarnate from Morty once Morty drink the medicine, to prevent Morty from disappearing, Rick messed up the timeline and saw Evil Morty's timeline and said that it sucks. Rick promised Morty that nothing will bother them ever again, he planned to mess up the timeline so he can have a fresh start with Morty again, that's why Morty at the end was born again, and Rick was reincarnated from Morty's body. He also tells Morty that he will explain when he gets older about when a Morty gets "too big for their britches "
A bit of translation help: The Japanese script mentions "Urashima Taro" instead of Rip Van Winkle when Rick gives Morty the serum. In Urashima Taro, a man saves a turtle from children that were toying around with it by putting it back in the ocean. A couple days later, that turtle comes back and takes him to an underwater palace to meet the princess there. The man and the princess spend a week together, but he has to go home to tend to his parents. Dismayed, the princess gives him a box and tells him never to open it. When the man returns home, everything is gone: his home, his parents, and everyone he knew. He ends up opening the box, and he becomes an old man. So in this version, Rick and Morty go on a ton of adventures together (duh). When time's up, instead of a box containing old age, Rick gives Morty a serum containing all of his memories that turns him into Rick. Present Rick sacrifices himself to blow up the spaceship and thwart Evil Morty (who is the Morty who didn't take the serum). Present Morty takes the serum that turns him into Rick right up until future Morty is born. Rick and Morty go on a ton of adventures together again.
I love how the yakuza guy isn't offended, like he gets its s naive kid and just is chill. This whole thing feels more legit than high guardian spice even if it wasn't Rick and Morty related which is hilarious.
@@Pc_98_Fan That would make sense. The show has it's own lore better than most in the sense that it shares that with endless references. I do however think, that could totally happen. Either that or they'd get offended then realize he just is naive or dumb and tell him to leave threateningly lol.
I know you probably weren't being literal, but I think the main reason Rick doesn't like time travel is because the show is a spin on the movie characters in "Back to the Future": Doc & Marty McFly. Something always goes wrong when Doc (Rick) would time travel in the live-action movie series.
@@hbr4566 Given the writers literally hate you and I...(Because the fanbase acts like it's not filled with a bunch of low iq incels) I don't think they care about mindfucks for the fans, but more of their own interest/artistic vision. If anything, mindfucks are lauded in the show. Rick mindfucks morty all the time to subjugate him for instance (ex. 100 YEARS OF RICK AND MORTY rants/I just saved you because your mom wouldn't accept me back if I didn't bring you with me) . Rick is the writer's ego and morty is what he thinks of fans of R&M. :P However, I believe you're on the right track, I think it's that need for analytical continuity but also majorly creative application. Along with AJ Sweet, I think he's right that it's a major reason if not THE main. But back to your/my point: I think it comes down to time travel is an overabused trope that doesn't behave as a sci-fi component. It acts fantastical because there are no coherent or logical ways to actually build a story based on time travel. It's not complex, it's not sophisticated and it boxes you into very few creative design choices once you apply it. It's just a pile of carbon-copied, paradoxical, low-effort deus ex machinas based on the inherent illogic as a result. Get a bunch of scientists to talk a bunch of BS, literally make shit that sounds smart up with rhetoric in front of a lay person. (go check an april fools video - teaching fake math to students) Odds are, with the authority figures, he feel stupid and incapable of understanding because he's not smart enough. Well turns out the social pressure and self-doubt result in him assuming he's too stupid to figure it out when in reality it's too stupid to be figured out. I would presume that even though they shit on us and think we're stupid(with good reason), they won't insult their own intelligence by making something so low-effort. If time travel is proven possible, I'll rescind my statement and instead say that humans are inherently incapable of understanding such concepts then. (Which I'd extend to say that's why it becomes a trope because we can only come up with so many paradoxical logics that we can suspend belief in if we're not capable of full perception of the reality) I think even the universe itself physically says time travel as fantastically presented is stupid too. (I mean...if it could possibly work, where are all the time travellers in every generation ever...) Now world-line branching? Up in the air still, plausible, tons of story uses...Unlike fantasy time travel, world-branches tie together not just sci-fi components, but faults in episodic story delivery, etc... It "automatically" fixes what would otherwise be a lot of plot holes, and they even utilize that aspect to jerk you around a bit. R&M uses alt-timelining so consistently and effectively I'm actually impressed. In the end, this is stil scifi fantasy, an entertainment show written by laymen, for laymen...So I can only imagine writing it is done because they legitimately enjoy the process personally. It's a bit of a game to write a story like this and see how many monkeys go "oo oo ah ah I am smert because I understand" while you are laughing at them. In essense, a way for them to say, "oo oo ah ah i am smert because i pruf u r dumb" Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the show...as a casual piece of entertainment, but I think the authors would agree it's stupid that people try to justify their scientific expertise because they're in on R&M...It's the same situation as anyone who watches yt videos or reads wikipedia and never does the math, personally walks through proofs, or reads journals to learn. Don't get me wrong, yt can be a great resource (especially lectures), wikipedia can be a great keyword resource, intuition is important...But ya need both...Again, this is just one of those shows that tends to attract pseudo-intellectuals. Edit: my stream of conscious sure is spastic today, sorry for the word vomit adhd.
Oof. If only we knew what this would lead to. Sucks because rewatching it, this pilot still holds up. It has SO much more sauce than the actual anime we got. The animation is more fluid, there's more style (despite it being the exact same art style) and the plot is actually cohesive. Oh well, at least we can look back on this one and remember why they did an "anime series" to begin with.
You are totally ignoring the fact tht most people upset didn't know about the anime and just dislike the art style. Anyways, the animation is of the same quality and you can tell it's clearly written by the same people
i do really like the art style decision, it makes this look really unique and still resembling the original look and not just making everyone look "generic anime" like fans do
It's animated entirely by a Japanese studio that did the first episode of Gotham Knight in the past and have a good relation with crunchyroll . It was necessary because otherwise it would be impossible to match the mouths to the Japanese voice.
I hope U guys read what I said and this is my theorie, leave ur opinions ! Morty on 0:00 and 8:03 are not saying the same thing which means that it's not a loop cuz something is different. What if Morty on begining is our Rick in series? That would be reason why he is so depressed and he is not original Rick in series . Why? Well.. Rick here is more happier and childish than Rick in series also we know that in season 1 when Beth told Rick that he was missing all these years,he can't be their Rick cuz he is Morty from timeline where this happened. Rick who gave Morty that potion also left his phone in that room which we can see later when Jerry calls, wich means that morty(who became Rick)came to that dimension to replace original Rick. Also when Rick shows up behind evil Morty we can hear him saying "so this is ur timeline" wich means that he time traveled and that's why Rick in series is saying that time travel is pointless cuz he know from his experience. BUT WAIT, let's get back to real Rick (the one who gave Morty a potion). He said to Morty "...do u remember from season 2..." Hold up. I know he broke 4th wall but... Does this means that we are watching from begining our Rick and Morty? And this is what happens in the end? Wich will result in loop where Morty become Rick, replace him in other dimension etc.. But.. I said on begining that it can't be loop cuz mortys are not saying the same thing at begining and in the end. Let's talk about grandfather paradox. So guy go back in time, kill his grandfather wich will result that guy was never born and didn't killed his grandfather wich will result that guy is born and would go back in time and kill his grandfather etc in endless loop. Is this situation similar here? Possibly. That's why there is not 1 loop but 2 loops, that's why mortys are not saying the same thing, something is slightly different wich result in 2 very similar loops. But what about Jerry? He is so happy when he calls Rick(Morty) and says that he got kid who's named Morty. He is happy, and he likes Rick, that's not Jerry from series!!! This could mean 2 things. FIRST: there are 2 loops wich means JERRY who likes Rick and JERRY who doesn't like Rick. Second: we know that Rick and Morty fucked up their dimension in season 1 and maybe Jerry in that dimension is Jerry who called Rick. In the end THEY ARE NOT ORIGINAL FAMILY,except summer and beth because we know that Rick is not grandfather to Morty cuz RICK is MORTY and Morty is not original brother to summer and they also replaced Jerry with another jerry in that one episode wich means that only Beth and summer are from same dimension.
Rick gave Morty the vial. Rick pointing at Morty and then said: "See you later Rick Sanchez!" Then Rick's face reflected to Morty in the glass barrier like saying they are one in the same. Rick fight and die from the explosion. Morty survived drank the liquid. Then grow up to become Rick, He fix the time and then eventually Morty was born and they go on to do adventures together just like how he promised. It happens over and over like in a loop.
@@mongo2080 The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterization - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize they're not just funny - they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick & Morty truly ARE idiots - of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, Rick's existential catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. The fact that Rick and Morty are in cahoots throughout the multiverse makes it canon. Same thing if someone else also made a show with Rick and Morty appearing in it would also make it canon, because they play throughout the multiverse making everything they are in canon. Crazy

Cause the serum morty drank made him turn in to rick and took his memories of the past from the looks of it. Rick even said that the serum would make him Rip Van Winkle a character from fiction who falls asleep as a young man and wakes up an old man.
The storyline is actually quite DARK Let's see if I can get the story straight. Rick c137 was hunted by evil Morty's minions, who call themselves genocider. They were tracking down Rick c137 by erasing everyone else in Tokyo, using manipulation of the past memory. Eventually, they finds the Rick in 新宿町, because that's the only place people didn't all disappeare. The two sides fought, both the Rick and the assassins died. As mentioned, the genocider eliminates everyone by manipulating past memory, So the fight actually took place in the past. Before Rick c137 died, he gave Morty a vile of potion, which passes on his memory to Morty, and turns him into Rick c137. This happens right before Morty c137 is born, and the new Rick soon learns the news from Jerry that his furtherself has just been born. What's dark about this is that Rick c137 cheated death by basically possessed his Morty. By the end of the story, I don't know if the RickMorty remembers his Morty past, or maybe Rick just took over and erased Morty. Either way, I wouldn't call it a well informed decision. Rick c137 might have just used his Morty as vessel...
Its also possible the drug wasn't Rick's memories but just something that makes Morty smart. Meaning Rick could have always been an older future version of Morty keeping the young Morty safe until this day happens.
@@alexpez9278 that would actually make sense. At the end when evil Morty announces mission complete and breaks away, we see Rick taunting him but not actually being there. It's probably a hallucination or something bc he watched his Rick die and now he's being haunted by him. "This is your timeline? It totally sucks!" Basically saying, this could have been all avoided had you drank the vile like I told you to
@@alexpez9278 By the end, evil Morty heard Rick saying "so this is your timeline, it totally sucks". But when he turned around there's no one. Unless it's a ghost Rick c137, in which case I will totally loss my respect to this storyline. Then it's the Rick inside of him made the comment, so a part of evil Morty is actually Rick. Rick said "so this is your timeline", which makes me think this story is how evil Morty came to be. He is the Morty after drinking the blue potion. So I dare to make this a theory: evil Morty is the Morty from the beginning of this story. He hunted Rick to force him to use Morty as a vessel. This is motivated by survival instinct, because this is how evil Morty came into existence.

The scene at the end is just a flashback that explains why Rick was missing after Morty was born. Morty does not become Rick. If anything the potion Morty drinks may preserve him from a multiverse collapse that evil Morty is trying to do by destroying memories.
@@raspberryboo2 Actually it's an old trope to stabilize a time line by making yourself your own ancestor. But I think lucasbachmann is right. This started with Rick playing with the secretions of those memory parasites. Here the past is just memories that can be changed. So I think the potion contains memories of R&M adventures - things they did in the past. That's why Morty says he is Rick's assistant. By drinking the potion, he remembers the past Rick wants him to remember, keeping this time line/dimension.

@@nxo.00x He wasn't in that family's life. In close encounters of the Rick kind, it shows baby morty and cuts off the footage as Morty got older. Maybe something happened and when his family was gone he bailed to a Rickless family filling the gap for him but leaving it open for the family. He also tells Morty that he will explain when he gets older about when a Morty gets "too big for their britches "
Thought Anime Rick would be Sosuke Aizen, but drunk.
that puts me off - like is this the real rick that we all know? a loving rick?
I can see why Rick doesn’t dabble in Time Travel. He could get stuck in a Time Loop.

My dude, thanks.
Well that was, a rather interesting story.
rip van winkle is still a a pretty close analogy, i still got that morty drinking the serum would turn into an "old man" ie. rick
Huh, well thanks for explaining that.
Except this is Evil Morty's timeline and Rick doesn't even remember being there.
I love how the yakuza guy isn't offended, like he gets its s naive kid and just is chill. This whole thing feels more legit than high guardian spice even if it wasn't Rick and Morty related which is hilarious.
I'm gonna guess they wanted to reference Yakuza (the game series) humor, considering that game series is full of everything happening
@@Pc_98_Fan That would make sense. The show has it's own lore better than most in the sense that it shares that with endless references. I do however think, that could totally happen. Either that or they'd get offended then realize he just is naive or dumb and tell him to leave threateningly lol.
This short was made by an actual anime studio, HGS was an underfunded indie production.
Why would you use high guardian spice as any metric?

So this is why rick doesn't fuck with time travel
More specifically the writers because it’s a mind f@&k and they try to make everything make sense which is respectable
I know you probably weren't being literal, but I think the main reason Rick doesn't like time travel is because the show is a spin on the movie characters in "Back to the Future": Doc & Marty McFly. Something always goes wrong when Doc (Rick) would time travel in the live-action movie series.
YOU DONT
FUCK
WITH
TIME
@@hbr4566 Given the writers literally hate you and I...(Because the fanbase acts like it's not filled with a bunch of low iq incels) I don't think they care about mindfucks for the fans, but more of their own interest/artistic vision. :P
However, I believe you're on the right track, I think it's that need for analytical continuity but also majorly creative application.
In essense, a way for them to say, "oo oo ah ah i am smert because i pruf u r dumb"
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the show...as a casual piece of entertainment, but I think the authors would agree it's stupid that people try to justify their scientific expertise because they're in on R&M...It's the same situation as anyone who watches yt videos or reads wikipedia and never does the math, personally walks through proofs, or reads journals to learn.
@@brandocks3763 wha this is why rick drinks
Anyways, the animation is of the same quality and you can tell it's clearly written by the same people
i do really like the art style decision, it makes this look really unique and still resembling the original look and not just making everyone look "generic anime" like fans do
It’s unique as it’s still true to Rick and Morty’s design, while others use a traditional anime design
Exactly. I didnt think I would like the simplistic design but it's simple yet complex like the original series.
Eyyyy, glad to hear of a legend giving their take! Glad to see your profile again, Bocodamondo.
It reminds me of Osomatsu San art style
It's animated entirely by a Japanese studio that did the first episode of Gotham Knight in the past and have a good relation with crunchyroll . It was necessary because otherwise it would be impossible to match the mouths to the Japanese voice.

This was awesome
Guess so ending is kind of japanemotionnalistic
ts supposed to take place with the rick c 147 we all know and love.
Jerry less of a fuck up?
*IMPOSSIBLE*
Imagine Rick and Mortys relationship being this wholesome

The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize they're not just funny - they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick & Morty truly ARE idiots - of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, Rick's existential catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. Rick definitely called Morty "Rick Sanchez"

OH MY GOD! 4:03 IT’LL MAKE YOU RIP VAN WINKLE! A story of a man who slept for decades and woke up as an old man!
it made morty become old quickly which made him into rick as morty ends up becoming rick when he grows up
The storyline is actually quite DARK
Let's see if I can get the story straight.
Basically that’s the story line here.. you can speculate that evil morty is a morty who didn’t drink the vile..
It totally sucks!"
Basically saying, this could have been all avoided had you drank the vile like I told you to
@@cpstyxx6621 He is reffering to Evil Morty's original timeline in the anime world when he say's it sucks
