Wow great comment. I like four roses as a middle of the road, every day bourbon. I don’t think they offer anything I would classify as top shelf. Four Roses is excellent bourbon but, in my opinion, not worth over $45. If you are wanting to drink whiskey to appreciate flavor I suggest every thing from Buffalo Trace. I just got a bottle of Bulliet bourbon. Haven’t tried it yet but the bottle looks cool to me. Looks like it came out of the old west of the late 1800s. I usually drink 101 Wild Turkey and standard Jameson ,but I thought I’d try something different.
The Hillbilly Piper I was really surprised by how much I like Bulleit. Bulleit Rye is good as well. But there is nothing wrong with Turkey 101. We did a review on 101 we were a little harsh. I’m going to bring Turkey back and give it respect. Thank you for watching! I hope you can find more videos to enjoy. Thank you very much.
@@talkingwhiskey1507 Wild Turkey 101 has a bite that some people don't like. But the bite is what I like about it. I tried the basic Speyburn Bradon Orach young Highland Single Malt Scotch, tasted good to me but it has a bite also that some don't like, but they have a I think a 10 year old that is smoother. I'm still developing my whiskey taste buds. I spent most of my life not drinking any alcohol. But I don't get drunk just a shot at night to keep the cold & flue away and to sleep better. The only times I got a little tipsy is when had too much Sake and one time too much 100 proof RockTown Apple Pie moonshine.
Makers is my everyday bourbon. I enjoy it was a lot of ice. I like Bulleit as well. No wrong choice in my opinion. Thank you very much for watching and leaving a comment.
I personally like Bulleit myself. But if I was going to recommend a good bourbon to someone looking to learn how to enjoy whiskey I would recommend Makers Mark.
Maker's Mark is a very good bourbon , but the sound , when you open the bulleit bottle, omfg ! it's like a symphony in my ears ! great video ! i'm a new fan from montreal canada !
Makers Mark is a much better bourbon, in my opinion. I do like Bulleit personally but I would recommend Makers over Bulleit. I too love that sound when the crock is pulled for the first time lol. Thank you very much for watching and leaving a comment.
When your page is talking whiskey and you just shoot the bourbon lol. And the guy on the left makes vinegar strokes with every sip its hard to take you seriously
Good. You really shouldn’t take us seriously. You shouldn’t take anyone’s opinion that seriously to be honest. Over the years of filming TW we have had the privilege of drinking with Master Distillers, Master Mixologist, Distillery Owens, Bree Masters and even a Keeper of the Quaich. None of those experts can tell you if the whiskey is good ,to you, or not. They can only tell you how well the process was followed. So I say don’t take them serious either. Explore different tastes and test your boundaries the power of opinion is yours alone. That being said, in my opinion of course, Makers Mark is a much better bourbon.
Just got my first Bourbon today and it was bulliet! i usually drink beer and tequila and wanted to try whiskey and got bulliet for 30$, was gonna get the black label but it was smoke and I heard bulliet was just as good or better so I got it and dam is good taste like America haha.
Please level match the intro next time 😬 thank you for the great content! I am a huge fan of Bulleit for same reason you mentioned. Very mild, doesn't have too much kick before or after. Tonight I did a taste test with Bulleit, Johny Walker Black, Jack Daniels and Makers Mark. I was shocked at how much I disliked the Makers compared to everything. The Jack Daniels when stacked up to the others was surprisingly decent too, but Johny Black was very smooth and didn't have as much of an after taste as the others. All in all, loving this rabbit hole and trying all the different Whiskey there is to experience. I also preferred the Bulleit to Buffalo Trace on a different night. Wonder what you guys prefer to the ones I listed?
Wow excellent comment. This was a very early episode and I was still figuring out editing. Talking Whiskey always had sound issues. Off camera microphones help, live and learn. Personally, Buffalo Trace would be my top choice among the whiskeys you listed. I drink Gentlemen Jack more than anything else. I’m not a fan of Johnny Walker. All the whiskeys you listed are excellent and it just comes down to choice. Thank you very much for watching and leaving a comment.
@@talkingwhiskey1507 I appreciate your honest reply. I personally found adding multiple mp3 sound files at 48K 16bit in Adobe Premiere makes it easy to match the levels. You can also do fade in and outs, which helps too. As for whiskey it's the strangest thing. The more I try it the more my taste changes. After trying the same blind taste test above I'm not a fan at all of the Johny Walker Black label, but to be fair I guess that's blended scotch so not really apples to apples. Makers is still least favorite and Bulleit is still my favorite. I'm almost ashamed to admit of all these whiskeys Jack Daniels is my second choice with Buffalo Trace close behind. I'll have to pick up some gentlemen Jack and try that again. I did notice that drinking out of stainless steel shot glasses made a dramatic difference to the taste compared to glass. Stainless steel made things more harsh. Thanks for the interaction and I look forward to more content!
Thank you very much for the reply. I made the mistake early on, this is a very early video, to focus more on the picture and neglect the sound. Talking Whiskey had sound issues. I’ve moved to 100% off camera sound. I invested some money on a good mic and recorder/ compressor. I only use on camera sound to line up the picture with the sound now. I’ve heard great things about Adobe premier. I use Lightroom and photoshop for pictures. I switched from Finial Cut pro ( with Red Giant color correction) to premiere. That missed up my flow so I switched back to finial cut. That’s the beauty of whiskey. The more you learn the more you taste. You’ll train you pallet to be able to pick out the nuances flavors. I tell people that you pay for flavors. If you can’t taste the flavors yet then don’t spend $100 on a bottle of whiskey. I’m glad that you are enjoying the world of whiskey. Whiskey is art for our tongues. Thank you very much for watching and leaving a comment. Cheers and happy thanksgiving.

Greetings from Georgia, a country not the state. I guess it depends what kind of Bourbon one prefers and I got your point why you liked Bulleit more. Also Maker's Mark is much more expensive than Bulleit, at least over here, but I would still go with Maker's mark. I still consider myself as a beginner Bourbon drinker, although I have already tried many decent Bourbons. I would love to see you guys testing Makers Mark and Crown Royal! If not at the same time, at least try Crown Royal, I like it a lot, although if you didn't really like Maker's Mark that much, there is a big chance you won't like Crown too, but would be interesting to try! Cheers!
Crown is good whiskey. Not my favorite but I do love mixing it with Dr Pepper. Makers Mark is a lot better bourbon than. Bulleit and I would recommend Markers over Bulleit any day. personally if I was going to chose between them just for myself i would have a hard time choosing. But if you are trying to learn bourbon 100% Makers Mark over Bulleit.
I think Makers is a better bourbon but at that time I would have chosen Bulleit. One time at a party I drunk way too much Makers Mark so that was still fresh on my mind lol . Thank you very much for watching and leaving a comment. Cheers.
Just recently got into whiskey after not liking it for years. I really like both but MM does have the noticeable extra burn (but also seems to have a tad more flavor, IMO). However, Bulleit is better IMO for a good balance of flavor and smoothness. Moderation in moderation.
Agreed! I would recommend Makers over Bulleit to most people but in my personal opinion, at that time, I would chose Bulleit over Makers. I do love some Makers Mark though. Thank you very much for watching and leaving a comment.
The "Maker's Mark doesn't need anything with it". I agree. My bourbon of choice. The other guy must have had a really bad night to talk down about it. But, I can understand how a bad memory can affect one's taste. I once ate too much watermelon when I was about 5 years old. I haven't been able to eat watermelon since.
Lol! The Makers Mark Incident on 2014 was rough. I do love Makers. To me Makers Mark doesn’t need anything mixed. I enjoy putting a few ice cubes with Makers but noting else. Thank you very much for watching and leaving a comment.

I started with makers. Out of all that I have tried, I think makers, makers 46, Chattanooga cask strength, Elijah Craig small batch, and the bulleit 10 year are the best that I have tried. I'm probably missing two or three from my favorite list, but my cheapest go to is buffalo trace.
@@talkingwhiskey1507 except for the ancient age. Buffalo makes it and it is aged at the least 36 months and it is about 11$ a bottle lol. Its wayyyyy too sweet and I barely tolerated it as a mixer.

Nice honest review guys, I found it interesting that you said the Bulleit was smoother tasting cause from what I read online, Maker's Mark was described as a smoother Bourbon, Bulleit having a higher Rye content. Anyway, guess I'll just have to buy both and see for myself! (btw I also really like Bulleit's bottle, simple yet really cool looking)
Thank you very much for your view and comment. I would recommend Makers Mark over Bulleit to anyone. Makers Mark is a classic Kentucky straight bourbon for a good reason. We never wanted to say which was the “better” whiskey just which one would you choose, with the exception of Lusty Claw cause that stuff is horrible. I personally at the time would have chosen Bulleit because the memory of me getting very drunk off Makers was still painfully fresh lol.

Stumbled across this because these are the two bottles I'm tossing up between buying today...I was under the impression the Maker's would be smoother, something to do with more wheat being used? Idk, I'm just getting into bourbon, been a scotch guy most of my adult life. No idea what a rye even tastes like. Smoothness really is key for me as beginner though. I like my whisk[e]y neat (>90% of the time) or with a teeny-tiny bit of bottled water, like 5 mls. On the rocks is also good though, just not with cola. Anything but cola. Ughh. You want to talk PTSD? I have that from chugging heaps of cheap ass, pre-mixed whiskey and cola as a teenager and having the worst hangovers you've ever seen...just smelling the shit makes me literally dry retch sometimes.
@@talkingwhiskey1507
Wild Turkey 101 has a bite that some people don't like.
As a cheap but not dirt cheap drinker it was nice watching you two compare my top favorites
Qlso in my state there both cork tops, I don't know why theirs the difference
Makers is my everyday bourbon. I enjoy it was a lot of ice. I like Bulleit as well. No wrong choice in my opinion. Thank you very much for watching and leaving a comment.
I’ve always wondered why Makers would have a screw on lid. I don’t think it matters to the taste of the whiskey but I prefer a cork. Feels fancy.
I’ve had both. Man. I really do like Bulleit though. Holy moly. The taste is just great.
I personally like Bulleit myself. But if I was going to recommend a good bourbon to someone looking to learn how to enjoy whiskey I would recommend Makers Mark.
@@talkingwhiskey1507 exactly. To me, bulleit tastes better, but makers is one of the smoothest out there. Especially the makers 46
You sir got owned
Lol
Bulleit all the way. I know it’s all subjective as both are good quality but I love the finish of Bulleit a lot more.
I love some Bulleit. The great thing good about whiskey is it’s art for your mouth and there is no wrong opinion when it comes to art.
I have a question?
Oh?
Just got my first Bourbon today and it was bulliet! i usually drink beer and tequila and wanted to try whiskey and got bulliet for 30$, was gonna get the black label but it was smoke and I heard bulliet was just as good or better so I got it and dam is good taste like America haha.
I agree. I was suppressed that I liked Bulliet. You can’t beat it for the price.
Thank you very much for watching and leaving a comment.
I noticed your light my Brother, keep up the great work. SMIB!
LOL, my man was already baked.. But love watching these vids, especially in 2020 and lockdown.
lol we use to film multiple episodes in a day. Not always a good idea lol. Thank you very much for watching and leaving a comment.
Bulleit bourbon is a high rye bourbon (28%) whereas Maker's Mark has no rye and uses wheat instead.
Yes! Excellent comment. Thank you. Personally I would recommend Makers Mark over most whiskeys at that same price and especially over Bulleit. Thank you very much for watching and leaving a comment.
About time these guys meet Ralphie the Drinking Scott.

Thanks blokes for this. I ve enjoyed this .I prefer the Bulleit . Have a great Christmas. All the best from England.

Bulleit is a high rye content bourbon I believe.
I would normally recommend Makers over Bulleit but I do enjoy Bulleit. Thank you very much for watching and leaving a comment.
My2 cents, Makers is kind of sweet, almost too sweet but Bulleit is just right.
I like both whiskeys. Makers is classic Kentucky straight bourbon and Bulleit is something new. Thank you very much for watching and leaving a comment. We are having a big give away coming up. I hope you will enter.
Talking Whiskey you’re welcome. Great channel.
Makers Mark is very sweet almost like candy but just perfect bourbon. Bullet is good bourbon too but tastes a little more like wood.
I agree. I think Makers is a much better Bourbon but for some reason I have a soft spot for Bulleit.
You can beat Buffalo Trace. Every whiskey they make is top notch. I love their Eagle Rare. Thank you very much for watching and leaving a comment.
@@talkingwhiskey1507 except for the ancient age. Buffalo makes it and it is aged at the least 36 months and it is about 11$ a bottle lol. Its wayyyyy too sweet and I barely tolerated it as a mixer.
He was in Vietnam that's why it's a canteen style bottle
Oh cool.

I agree the reason why I like bulliet is because it's just solid Jack Daniel's is too sweet and makers is too strong I like a balance go bulliet indeed

@@talkingwhiskey1507 haha nice ok thanks for the recommandation. I guess I'll just end up buying both Bulleit and Maker's Mark and try both!

Bulleit - Slick and subtle anytime! Makers - Buy a bottle for Christmas, and share it with the family.

Bulleit has been one of my favorites since i used to sneak it out of my dads cabinet. I love to mix it with sweet tea. Good videos and Roll Tide!
Yes! Roll Tide Roll! I was surprised by how much I liked Bulleit. A lot of whiskey snobs look down on Bulleit cause they are still a new company and they up until soon they outsource their whiskey but I like Bulleit. If you like Bulleit I would recommend Bella Meade. Thank you very much for watching.
Anyway, think I'll go Bulleit but I probably will try Maker's sometime in the future, cheers.
Skippy McOz wow! Excellent comment!! Yes I had a fun and then bad experience with Makers. Bulleit and Makers are both great whiskeys. Bulleit is good for mixing while Makers Mark is a by far a better sipping whiskey if you ask me, but then again taste is subjective.
