Sand the inside and pour melted beeswax (brood wax) and let it roll around to thinly coat. Paint outside a dark color to eliminate light. Orange allows light. Also, be careful when retrieving bees. Texas has Africanized bees.
No frame needed. You can hang a piece a comb or something inside if you’d like and they’ll land on that. You can also put a frame inside the bucket as well but it’s not a necessity:
