The second story made me shed some tears, the fact that the wife was literally offering to take a nap on the couch so they could continue playing video games makes me sad. And I'm really glad that the OP didn't let her sleep on the couch just for E. And by the way, the OP isn't the jerk, E was, because if E could've just understood the wife's situation better then none of this would've happened.

The problem however is that we have a snippet and as our host has pointed out no-one blows up like this if this was the first time.
Hell OP knew that E and his wife don't get along and hasn't wondered why? Nah OP is the one at fault in my mind, either because he was friends with E or because he is so blasé about his relationships that he just lets things be.
Also come on, they could've taken the tv out to the living room, who has a TV in their bedroom anyway, it doesn't help.

    1) NTA. In that situation where you're basically abandoned as a kid and the "parent" only comes out of the woodwork when you have 7 figures minimum in the bank, it's 1000% positive it's because the "parent" only see you as an ATM. If I ever was in that situation, I'd only respond to the first call "That's odd. I don't have a mother, only a dad", hang up and block any and all communications with her.
    2) NTA. I'm single, never had a relationship (not interested in getting into one either), but even I know that when you're married the wife takes top priority (until kids come along). OP need to cut E out of his life if this is how he treats friends.
    3) NTA. I have a dietary restriction (celiac disease) which forces me to have a wheat-free diet. My family have learned and adapted to my diet fairly quickly (although I only learned to cooked for myself when I was kicked out). I think OP should reconsider her marriage to the husband since he seems to suffer from the infamous "Fragile Masculinity Syndrome" which causes the afflicted to feel an urge to control everything, being the Alpha Being in the household and anything/anyone he views as weak or undesirable are to be mocked and discouraged. This may be a cultural thing but from my perspective: let him sleep in the doghouse where he belongs. Also, be prepared to be the only grandparent to be allowed to see the daughters children when the time comes

@@TheMetalWeirdo I love how people complain about "fragile masculinity" when they aren't even working and still complaining lol. Also, no, the daughter IS financially straining the family in this case lol, because despite the mother giving her the money, the father has to work to earn it, so she's in no way "self sufficient". If the mother is going to reconsider her entire marriage over a little thing like this, that man doesn't deserve a loose trigger like this mother and daughter lol.

i agree with the first part and disagree with the second part, people really need to know when to call the shots not blindly take sides. family first part, if they are objectfully right then that's fine. like if we were are friend's E's house and the wife wants to tell him what for, then no the wife would be wrong, she'd be a karen at that point but still. because family are still people and that doesn't make them more right for being family, that's what 95% of the jerk family members in these stories use to justify their actions.

To Story three: the ops daughter has the right to eat and cook vegan food as much as she likes!
I've read an article some years ago about a German Family who only eats convenient/fast food and one of the kids desired fresh fruits, vegetables, grains such as rice, noodles and so on. The other Family members, however, despised her and did not allow her to eat healthy food - at all!
I don't know what happened to her, but this story is pretty similar to the article I've read. The difference is, the mother encourages her daughter to cook and eat whatever the daughter likes! Kudos to the mother for accepting and supporting her daughters eating habits.

  • @morningglory102
    @morningglory102 2 ปีที่แล้ว +65

1st story: I wouldn't even bother trying to reunite with her as it's OBVIOUS that she's only interested in the OP's money. Though her kids are innocent, what makes the situation worse is that she's guilt tripping the OP with them and that should be taken as a red flag if you ask me. Seems like the OP knows exactly what fiction and reality is so i don't know why she's making an easy decision look hard. But, she's not the jerk in this.
2nd story: You're a married man. Your home comes before anything else. Heck, I'm not even married nor do i even have any kids yet at 28y/o and even i know this. Not the jerk.
3rd story: Not the jerk. That husband is a child.
4th story: I mean, I think the OP is just being spiteful here but at the end of the day, Like the mother said. Regardless of him being there or not, that is indeed her father and she should care. (Key word, SHOULD) However, as the case may be this looks like the typical abandonment story especially since it seems like the father cut ties to go and be with another family and decides to get in touch with them ONLY when he's in need? (At least to me as im still thinking while typing this). I can't blame her for the way she feels. Not the jerk.

The story with the dad being sick hits me. My dad and I didn’t have a horrible relationship but it wasn’t rainbows and cake. He passed last year and I was not there for him when he was sick (cancer that he told me via text) or went to his memorial via Zoom. I was told he died via text. I felt like a jerk for awhile but remembered that when I was sick and needed him he wasn’t there and I ended up dropping everything when he had a heart attack around the same time. I had some mental health issues and he told me I couldn’t live with him bc my little sisters still lived there and him and my stepmom were trying to get them to move out. That was the last straw for me. I’ve gone through my whole life feeling like he always picked them over me or not even consider me and that statement put the nail in the coffin. There’s more to the story of course but that would be a looooonnnggg post lol.

I've been "talking" to my father since we kicked him out, mostly for his birthday, father's day and holidays, and only because I consider it a milestone in my healing of what he did in my childhood and teenhood, but that's it. depends on the person a narcissist will always be selfish, and people seldomly change unless something big happens to scare them or enlighten them. a narcissist will almost never change unless they can spin it in a way that makes them look good. that being said most other people that aren't dysfunctional generally will change when a child is introduce, there is a bond that is made that increases the importance of the child, specially a birth mother she carried a child for roughly 9 months there is an attachment, it would be more disturbing if that wasn't the case, which means a mental issue that has gone undetected or ignored. that being said if they don't have a dysfuntion they can be roudy and untrust worthy as young adults early 20s, and have a change in their late 20's -30s cause shit happened and they have their shit together. but i agree that becoming a parent doesn't make that a better person, hell becoming a parent legally either biologically or through some sort of guardianship doesn't make you a parent i'm my book, the actions of the person make them a parent.

    STORY #1
    NTA.
OP shouldn't reconnect with egg-donor. There's a bunch of reasons why:
    1. OP doesn't any of egg-donor's new kids. They're not OP's siblings, they're strangers. OP doesn't owe strangers anything.
    2. Egg-donor is obviously only interested in OP's money, not in OP as a person. She won't love OP if OP gives her or her kids money, so OP will just be left feeling like an ATM and a fool.
    3. She hurt OP's father, and probably cheated on him. Giving egg-donor money would be a betrayal of him.
    4. She hurt OP's brother. Giving egg-donor money would be a betrayal of him.
    STORY #2
NTA. OP is a good husband and stood up for his wife.
Frankly, OP should break off his friendship with E, try to explain to the mutual friends who sided with E why E's actions crossed a line, and then break off the friendship with any of them who side with
    STORY #3
NTA. I've noticed that parents who obsess over "respect" and "gratitude" are usually narcissists who just want to exert control over their kids to feel powerful.
OP needs to choose - her child or her husband. Make it clear to husband that his actions and attitude are unacceptable, and that if he doesn't knock it off, he's going to lose his family. Insist he also attend family therapy.
    STORY #4
NTA. The sperm-donor chose not to be OP's father. OP doesn't owe him a damn thing, not even if his life depends on it. If OP ever feels guilty, she could instead spend the money on gifts for her younger brother or donate it to a charity that helps disadvantaged children or abused women.

Well that’s the same consideration you should be giving money to these kids it sounds like you don’t even know. You might share a poor excuse for a mother, but that isn’t worth anything in terms of $$. Also, once you start giving them gifts or money, your mother will never take her hands out of your pockets.

I can kinda relate to story 1. I'm not rich nor at the age where I can be, but I've always had bad luck when it comes to parents.
My mom and dad separated when I was 15 and my dad got full custody of me even though I had the choice to go with one of them. I stayed with my dad because he has some health conditions, I also was in my last year of middle school so I had to take my exams to graduate and go to college (my country is different from most countries when it comes with education).
I stayed with my dad for 2 more years and watched him go downhill where he basically was no better than my mom. He went on multiple dates that always ended up in the spicey stuff. He practically forced me to be nice to each new girlfriend he had. Now I'm not the person to stand between two people loving each other, but he had this one girlfriend that was terrible. She would act all nice and tried to mom me in those 2 years and talk about me behind my back and say things about me that wouldn't be true or that didn't have the proper context that only I could explain. My dad fell hard for her as he even cheated on the one girlfriend of his that I actually liked and whose daughter I considered my younger sister. My dad called me one day to ask the question if I would be staying in his house or look for my own and since I truly didn't want to go through such thing again, I said I would move out. He fully supported my decision and offered to help with rent, groceries, etc... but 2 days later he changed drastically and yelled at me through the phone. A week later I was kicked out, at this time I was 18, had no job, no student loan, no phone because he took mine since he paid for it and all the other stuff that he paid for besides my clothes. I luckily knew where to go for help and lived on my own for a year.
My mom also had her flaws. Since the divorce I would have a stoplight relationship with her which always ended up with her being toxic towards my dad and I, making up lies and even dropping the massive bomb of my dad not being my biological dad. This kind of relationship stayed the same for like 3 years until my mom met her now ex-boyfriend because she went back to another person she used to date. That relationship is going smooth right now and I consider him as family. He's been a really good influence on my mom and made sure she paid off her debt and would be more honest to the people she cares about.
The relationship between my mom and I is going smooth as well and I have contact with a few other family members from my mom's side and I live with my grandpa (mom's side). The relationship with my dad is non-existing, but I keep tabs on him through his Facebook account and I'm thinking of contacting him to try to talk any misunderstandings out, but on the other hand I am afraid of him because he also is the cause of 2 severe traumas I have, which I did get therapy for, but didn't help.

The part that really blows my mind is the unmarried “friends”all getting behind E. I’m a single guy too but I think OP’s priorities are perfectly straight and his exhausted wife getting some much needed rest is so high above playing more video games with his friend which they’ve been playing for a while and can continue playing later that you could fit the Statue of Liberty between them!
That whole “bros before hoes” that’s referring to a girl that a guy just met and/or is planning a one night stand with, a OP is in a committed relationship, that’s a completely different dynamic and I would find it distasteful to call any woman a hoe but I might be able to shrug it off if I didn’t know her, but if someone implied the woman I loved and intended to spend the rest of my life with was a hoe…. Oh the hell that would break loose!

Video game story: as I said in another video with this story, it's ESH apart from the wife. E sucks for obvious reasons, and OP sucks because he placed the only TV in their bedroom. Now normally that'd be fine, but then OP decides to invite people over to play on said TV. Now it doesn't take more than two brain cells to figure out that if one of you came home knackered, you'd want to sleep on your bed, and any guest your partner has over will have to leave the room, like it's pretty obvious that this situation is inevitable. So OP either has to a) buy a new TV for their living room; b) move the TV from the bedroom to the living room; or c) not have people over just to kick them out, politely or not.

    • @0rang91l4
      @0rang91l4 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

do that after the daughter makes her own money, and her own place. If the problem is cooking then cook the non-vegan food for family because it's the money to make food for ALL family and it's from the father's wallet, and the kitchen is in HIS house so it's his rule. the daughter can try to discuss not argue with his father, just ask him like a girl ask his dad for permission. If she can bring good reason why he should permit then better and maybe the father will go vegan. But since the problem is the daughter is use the mother's back it's one way to disrespect the father, like why she ask only the mother and not include the father? Does the father is not important to her or what

Older video but story 4 hit my hard enough that I thought I'd share. My father has never been a big point in my (32m) life, I have a number of siblings from him, all with different mothers, one of them (also 32m) is a couple months older than I am. I have spent less than 6 years of my life with the man and a few years back, he showed up out of the blue to see me as though it was a common thing he did, I shut the door in his face, a year or so after that I got a call from a hospital telling me he'd been hospitalized from a heart attack and I was the only one who picked up, I ripped into the doctor. When you feel abandoned, there is a deep seated rage there that is hard to articulate, part of you just want them back but the fact they left in the first place burns in your brain. I think why I can appreciate op's pov in story 4 is that the last time I'd seen my father was my 13th bday when he showed up with a gf and her kids, and then nothing for 14 years
