    I currently have 4 projects at once - Portal 3, Super Mario bros 64, Super Mario Sunshine 64 and Odyssey 64. Portal 3 will release soon and this will probably come after it. Sunshine64 and Odyssey 64 will both require at least 1.5 years more of work - you will have to be patient there. In the meantime, you will get to enjoy these less work intensive mods though.

    Amazing, but a few gripes.
    1. Same HUD, it would be nice if it was different.
    2. Going back, it would be nice if you had a piece of geometry, same color as level back, follow you as you progress
    3. In the underground, both platforms are going up. Not accurate.
    4. In the original SMB you could walk through the tree stumps, they wern't solid
    5. Not a big fan of the HP system, I would prefer the original, and coins give you health still.
    Remember you are the designer, and these are just my opinions, and my opinions are subjective. I am being extra critical here, but me along with everyone else will still enjoy it to the fullest when it comes out. Great job Kaze, you are a hard working developer and deserve every ounce of praise you get.

    I cannot believe how impressive all of this is! Re-implementing the koopa shell kick, the ability to jump on koopa shells, paratroopas, invincibility stars, fire flowers, and not to mention making it all 2d using a 3d engine... I am speechless!

      Probably super easy, just build the tunnel bonus areas somewhere out of sight in each level.
      Then use a standing warp to get to them, the ones that make mario go invisible for a sec then warp to somewhere else.

    You should remove the coins' healing property, but it's not a burning issue. Just a suggestion for even more authenticity.

      Francisco Lopez Mario 64 does have climbable poles with hidden Lives at the top.
      I'm sure Kaze could turn the trigger in to a star trigger that appears just after the pole, jump off pole grab star next level.

      It's really interesting to think about if that would be possible.
      Someone made a clone of Doom for the Commodore Vic-20

      It's not clear if any processor upgrades or RAM upgrades were involved, but the stock is a 1MHz core, considerably slower than the NES with 1.8MHz.
      The N64 processor wasn't much more than 1.8x the original PC specification requirements for Doom.
      It also wasn't unheard of for NES games to have onboard processor chips like the SuperFX on the SNES, so you could employ a chip that would have been economically feasible at the time for a premium game cart to bump the processing power while remaining faithful to the concept of a 'true' NES port.
      Polygons would be out of the question and given the complexity of the worlds, assuming the gameplay were to remain largely intact (the only thing which could be realistically hoped for), so you would be looking at something like a map of vertexes (pixels plotted in a 3D environment where the polygon corners would normally be), so it really wouldn't exactly feel like a picture but more of a plotted radar image, but so long as you could see what, and where, everything was, that might be enough to maintain viable gameplay.
      Colours would also need to be dropped - at minimum to 4 colours - Red for Mario, brown and green for enemies and environment. Red brown green and blue I think would have to be it. It might even be required to drop to simple black background with white vertexes, and to rely on the fluidity and dynamics of the gameplay itself in order to work out what's happening on screen (along with the familiarity most people have with that gameplay and level design - which is also what makes those barebones Doom clones viable).
      Detail in general would need to be dropped (so a goomba might be more like a tapered box with 4 vertexes for corners and 2 more blinking on and off for eyes, relying on the movement of those vertexes in a goomba-like manner to generate the illusion of character), draw rate would need to be slashed, and so on. The system would be mostly occupied with calculating where the various moving objects are in the 3D space, and which vertexes should currently be being displayed on screen.
      I think all of those compromises would be worth it though, if the result of faithfully cloning the gameplay (jump mechanics, camera, level design) of Mario 64 on the NES was actually achieved.
      If what I just described couldn't be achieved on the NES, it certainly could be on the SNES, and that would be a reasonable compromise, but skipping a whole console gen downwards for the port would be much more satisfying.
