This one is going to need a basket full of parts. I do enjoy the hunt, finding the best parts for the least amount of money. 💰 I am such a miser. Thanks for watching.
I rescued a CB200 from a hideous existence as a field bike. It had finally expired after the camchain and tensioner had given up the ghost. The camchain then started wearing channels in the front & back of the camchain tunnel. The rings, pistons & barrels were all shot too. I replaced the barrels, got some 2nd hand ones, had them rebored to suit new oversized pistons, valves re-ground, new camchain & tensioners, back together and away it went! It even passed its’ MOT first time, too. A great little bike to ride!
Those cheap amazon endoscopes are great for so many things. I bought one a couple years ago and I use it all the time... so nice for getting into tight spots and looking around.
I had a friend in high school that had one of these. He hated it for some reason. He was a smoker, and each morning before he left for school he’d sit on it and warm it up while he smoked a cigarette… with the throttle to the stop. I presume he was trying to blow it up but I don’t think it ever happened 😄 Tough little engines!
My first bike was a Honda CB200. It also suffered from major engine failure twice, within a short period of time. The first time was piston rings and the second time was a seized camshaft. It was a very unreliable and underpowered bike with poor brakes, but it was still special to me as a teenager.
I had a CB200 from new, and did 51,000 miles in 3 years. A big-end went at 32,000 and I needed a new crankshaft assembly. My fault though - I was 17/18 and had no mechanical sympathy, so it got thrashed mercilessly everywhere (including from cold). My trip to work was mainly motorway, so it spent a fair bit of its life with the throttle against the stop (hovering between 70 & just over 80, depending on conditions). It did pretty well considering the abuse, and I've been a lot more careful since!
This one has had rough life. Looks like it was oil starved on the left side of cam holder behind the points. The seal is crispy. Must have gotten really hot. Thanks so watching.
Never mind the knackered clapped out 1975 CB 200.... I tune in purely for the seemingly 1975 "wrench monkey" - everytime you swing off a wrench "The Bearded Mechanic" grows a new chin hair out of jealousy of improvisation! 😂 Seriously though - don't take that as disrespect! merely some twisted British humour - I've got maximum respect for you, like I've mentioned previously several times on the rusted Kwaka videos, you re-inspired me to get my rotting naked Deauville in my yard back up, running and ripping bends! With minimal costs... 😁😁😊😊 Forever thankful for your inspiration brother - even if my comments occasionally seem "a bit off".... In true British fashion I feel I've got so so much of a higher level of respect for you that I can also absolutely "rip on you" in the best of Red, White and Blue fashion.... Whilst still remaining humble.... {oh 5417.... R/W/B.. Isn't that your flag too? 😂😉😉😂🤣🤣🤣}
If you weren’t impressed by the CB200 wait till you see the next piece of garbage 🗑️ I bring home.😂😂😂 I love @TheBeardedMechanic! Really appreciate you watching. Your Mrs/Mr must love me for I inspiring you to get the bike out of the garden! 😂😂 BTW I love “taking a piss”. 😂 Thanks for watching.
Another great video mate. Good cb200 cams are getting hard to find. I have 4 engines and 3 of them had the same cam/bearing wear. A common fix is machining the bearing area to fit a brass sleeve and machining the worn cam to suit. Also needle roller bearings can be used but then you open up a new set of problems with blowing out the oil seals.
Phone pics have been such a help to my fading memory. Sometimes I use video to follow whole wires from end to end. I gotta get out there and warm up my little garage and start looking again into a CM200 twin kickstart reassembly. I think there’s some dots stamped into two cogs that I’m not aligning correctly. It wouldn’t go in a few weeks ago after I took off all the aluminum engine cases for high shine polishing. I got flustered and walked away. Now it’s icy and freezing here in MD and I wish I lived in Florida so I could go on a wam ride after hopefully putting it back together. It is looking so nice. I wish we could share pictures in these comments. I’d like your take on the bike.
Micah, Agree on the pics. Thankfully I video everything I do now!!!!😂 You can send me an email motorcyclerewind@gmail.com or dm on Instagram. Thanks for watching
Make sure the centrifugal oil filter is clean and if the feed line through the clutch cover isn’t blocked. I have seen this a few times, where a guy puts on the side cover smears it with RTv and blocks the oil feed to the head. Which ruins the bearing and cam shaft. It’s a small hole through the gasket.
I know where a cb200 is sitting in a shed. I have asked him several times if he would sell it. I will stop by next week and see if he is ready to let it go. Thanks for watching.
Enjoyed, as always. The nuts and bolts of it are what I enjoy most. Not big on rtv. I install gaskets dry or use permatex aviation gasket sealer. I keep noticing that car in the corner.....maybe a video about it one day?
Thanks so much for watching. Maybe the 1971 Triumph Spitfire will make a video one day. The best way would be if I got a 1971 Triumph motorcycle. Thanks for watching.
Thre an oil feed across the back for the left cam bearing. Crap can pile up at th end causing oil starvation to left cam bearing. On 350 engine the clutch case gasket would break off and pile up at left end of oil way
I have a low mileage CB200t in excellent condition I could sell you. Rare Cable Disk brake. red repaint. Someone ran that bike out of oil. It got so hot the valve seized and smoked the piston. Hope the rod survived. Sadly that bike isnt worth the repair bill. I have never had a valid offer for mine in over 10 years
Dr Rewind will bring it back! 👍🏻🫵🏻

Very cool little bikes. Thanks for watching
I sent my CB350 cam to Webb Racing Cams when it was worn. They hardweld and remachine them. I had a custom grind done to it, and it screams now.
Thanks for the tip I will look into it. Not sure how much money he wants put into it. Thanks for watching.
Hondas notorious 'cam in head' design.
You'll have fun with that.
Nothing a good cleaning and some new parts can’t fix!!💰💰💰🤞
Those cheap amazon endoscopes are great for so many things. I bought one a couple years ago and I use it all the time... so nice for getting into tight spots and looking around.
Totally agree! I love it battery lasts a long time. Thanks for watching.
I had a CL200 from the 70's, can't recall the exact year. Boy do I regret trading it. That and my Kaw Ke100.
The CL200’s are hard to come by. Thanks for watching.
Awesolute goof job EricLlove your passiion for passion for ÿour passion for these boked.
Thanks Billy. Comment reads like you may have gotten into the liquor cabinet. 😂🍻🍺🥂🍾

They are cool little bikes. We are on a part hunt now to get this guy back on the road. Thanks for watching
Your tear down videos are very good. In 5 minutes you had us at the cylinder talking about honing.. your skill level is greatly improving.. 👍
Thanks. This is one is fun. Thanks for watching.
Oh ship! Looks like I have exactly the same shape on one of my valves on my CJ. I think my bike will receive a lot of new parts soon...
So will this one. Thanks for watching.

Great styling meets unreliability.

Does have a good look. Thanks for watching

My first thought....cam shaft! Cool vid. Keep them coming.
The cam has to be replaced. The parts list is growing. Decision time. How much money do you throw at it?
@@motorcyclerewind Always a good question. I love all the vintage but we have to be realistic, too. A 200cc...hmm. I wouldn't throw a lot at it.

I am hoping to find an engine at the salvage yard that is usable. 🤞 thanks for watching.

I am a proud owner of a 1800 VTX with some cam shaft work. Cobra pipes, pretty darn quick bike.
Those are awesome motorcycles. Thanks for watching.

Yes sir. This guy is going to get a deep cleaning. RTV is everywhere. Thanks for watching.
Dream Bike!! If you find one of these or a 350, get it running and moving, I'll buy it and fix all the rest. Seriously, I wont even haggle. 🤙
I know where a cb200 is sitting in a shed. I have asked him several times if he would sell it. I will stop by next week and see if he is ready to let it go. Thanks for watching.
@@motorcyclerewind Eric, you are the BEST! I'm all in for that. If he's not ready to sell, no worries, I'm not in a hurry and there will be others.
My first thought was a valve issue. Looks like it must have contacted the piston somehow but no evidence?
You’re right. Gonna need a handful of new parts.

@@motorcyclerewind ah. Thought it was a spitfire but wasn't quite sure. Always liked their design,,,,,sans the electrical systems lol
They can be finicky.
I always wanted to work in a workshop with such motorcycles. Old Japan will not come back so solid
Thanks I enjoy my little shop! Thanks for watching!
Looks like the RTV blocked the oil passage. RTV is the enemy. Just rebuilt a CL200 top end. Starting a CB200 next.
It is the worst. I know who to ask if I have any questions. Thanks for watching.
❤ Happy to subscribe.
Thanks for the sub🙏

Loads of fun! hardest part of the whole motorcycle repair industry, finding a paying customer@@motorcyclerewind
Agreed. 👍
What habdlebars are those!? They would look great on a CL200
It sure. I can check, maybe the owner knows where they came from.
Stick valve ?
It was definitely stuck.
the oil filter never gets cleaned out on these engines .
You are so right. Thanks for watching!
Sticking Valve........
Definitely a sticky valve. Thanks for watching.
what caused that seal to cook?
Must have a clogged oil passage and it got cooked. Thanks for watching.
Rings!??😬🤔
I pulled the cylinders off and rings are good. Thanks for watching.
Valve I think
Valve is definitely part of it. Thanks for watching.
Does it need a new cam and followers too ?
Yes the parts list is growing.
