      @Nnaemeka Omeruo I know you're referring to Lewis Hamilton and his campaign of opposing racism and bigotry but I just can't find the connection between that topic and Kimi respectfully handing a trophy to Fisi. I simply can't.

      @Nnaemeka Omeruo Oh, I don't think that anyone with a common sense would be that childish.
      It's up to debate though, would Lewis be as sportsmanlike as Kimi here is.

    • @LethalWalou
      @LethalWalou 7 ปีที่แล้ว +157

      +Nobite I went and searched a bit about the situation. Apparently he has said 2 things. He thought the accident was behind him and he tried to catch up to the car ahead quickly (even though there was SC signs). Also that spot is blind for you when you climb the ''hill''. So those 2 together pretty much explain why this happened. The other drivers must've known the crash was ahead and had slowed down already.

      But, with 2005, 2006 2007 and 2008, it was one my favorite seaons.
      Being a teenager and growning up with the F1 of the 2000's was simply awesome.

      And the less mentioned incident was in Australia when Mclaren had calibrated his pit-limiter wrong and Kimi suffered a drive-through penalty. Engine failure in Nürburgring wasn't bad luck it was just poor reliability but the Australian incident was one of those freak team errors that seem always happen to Kimi.

    I´ve been there, I've sleep on the line from Saturday from Sunday happy for the Barrichello pole, hoping for a wictory that never came... I was at the end of the back straight, and we saw the cars not coming from turn 3... Amazing! The race almost didn't happen due to the rain... I've never get so much rain in my life before or after. I saw a big, big black cloud coming and I said "if all this rain fall, there might not be a race", and 15 minutes later, the sky fell over us. Great memories!

    • @Balnazzardi
      @Balnazzardi 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ye well I quess so.....but like I said already these kind of races were extremely rare even back then....the only other races from the "old days" like this that comes into mind were 1999 Nurburing (Midfield teams getting top 3 podium), 1998 Spa (same thing) and 1996 Monaco (which Oliver Panis on Ligier won).....all in common that they were alteast partly wet-weather races.
      Also one thing that places heavily against mid-field teams these days is improved reliability. So I can agree on that aspect that atleast back then it was easier for mid-field teams to get on podium every now and then if not to take a victory, when even the top teams had much more reliability issues than they have these days....well except for maybe Red Bull, but ye, its true in that aspect that the top 3 teams are so very clear of the rest.
      Maybe the new engine regulations in 2021 and afterwards would help bring the field closer together, but then again maybe it wont, atleast for the first 1-3 years because usually regulation changes atleast initially always benefit the top teams who have the money to prepare better for the changes.
      But either way in F1 there has always been situation where 2 or 3 teams (sometimes even just 1 team utterly dominating) are well clear of the rest so in that aspect the situation we have today is not that much different from what it has ever been.

      Kimi would still have lost the title because him and Schumacher would had been tied on points,with Schumacher winning the title on the countback of wins (6 for Schumacher and 2 Räikkönen).It was the Mercedes engine blowing up at Nürburgring which ultimately cost Kimi the title since he likely lost 10 points there.

    a beautiful and great attitude of the Kimi Raikkonen 👏👏👏👏👏
    The rain began at the start of the day and the start had to be made with the Safety Car on the track and, after 7 laps, the race is normalized. David Coulthard took first place on the first corner, Nick Heidfeld left with motor problems, and on lap 16 Justin Wilson left with the same problems Heidfeld.
    On lap 18, Ralph Firman's suspension crashes and he hits Olivier Panis causing a new entry from the Safety Car. At 25, Antonio Pizzonia hits the Curva do Sol along with Juan Pablo Montoya, and two laps later Michael Schumacher hits the same place.
    On lap 33 Jenson Button also hits the Sun Curve. 12 laps later, Rubens Barrichello overtakes Coulthard and takes the lead to delirium from the crowd, but he leaves with a dry crash on lap 47.
    On Lap 54, Mark Webber crashes hard on the Coffee Bow, causing Safety Car to enter, but Fernando Alonso hits the same spot as he hits one of the Australian's car tires. After the accident the Red flag was agitated, and the evidence was closed. The winner of the moment, contrary to what everyone imagined, was Kimi Raikkonen, who took the lead on lap 53. Giancarlo Fisichella had surpassed him on lap 54, but by regulation the final result would have to be the previous two laps signaled the red flag. The inspectors declared that the flag was flagged on lap 55, thus making official the results according to the close of lap 53. However, a few days after the race, video evidence was obtained showing that Fisichella had indeed opened the lap 56 before the race interruption signal, making the actual result of the race the closing lap of lap 54, with Jordan's driver in the lead. After the evidence was forwarded to the FIA, Fisichella was officially recognized as the winner on 11 April. After two weeks at the San Marino GP in an unofficial ceremony, Raikkonen handed the first-place trophy to the Irish team's driver.

    What a race this was, a lot of memories from it I have... First win for Fisi and the last for Jordan. Also it was the 700th F1 race ever, couldn't have hoped a better milestone race to watch back then. Talking about Ferrari, this was their first double-retirement since Belgium 98, another fine wet race back in the day, which by the way was won by a Jordan car too. The retirement for Barrichello was 9th in a row at his home GP, and a closest chance for him to win it, what a bad luck... Although some rumors say Ferrari forgot to put enough fuel to his car while in pits, official cause for retiring was announced as "Fuel system error"...
