What a guy, and what a career! I love his "Sculpting A Galaxy" book, too. As for the ILM model shop itself, I was really sad when I heard that it was splitting off from the rest of the company when the move was made to the Presidio. It felt like the end of an era.

I kept telling people the wide shots of the train in Out Of Africa is an ILM model process shot and no one believed me. Now I can show them this. LOL What a wise guy, and using my favorite DeLorean quote, too.

I remember back in the 80’s when I read an article in Time magazine about ILM and it said the train was a model and I didn’t believe it because it looked so damned real!

When I saw that house pulling apart.... 3:17 ....it really dawned on me that these guys have to be very effective problem solvers. These guys probably knew more about physics than some professors.

way prefer models over CGI. and creatures like the Rancor shot at high speed. Camerons Alien queen is one of the best filmed creature FX, the combo of puppet and life size multi operated figure. Probably a fine combination of puppet and cgi would be very rewarding. Because straight cgi tends to eliminate any sense of weirdness or oddity
