Carmen is Bizet's own End of the World (Ragnarok) Opera. he wrote lighter works including Peral Fishers, L'arlesienne suites, Symphony in C Mjaor, and Children's Game's (petite suite).
Suggestion for a future synopsis: Eugene Onegin? I fell in love with it when I watched the Leaf Magic production. It was not my first, but this was the one where suddenly everything clicked. Turns out I just needed the perfect Onegin who had it all - the charisma, the dangerous sexy bastard attitude and the Slavic melancholy. Also Tatiana! So radiant!
George Bizet didn't live to see Carmen take off. He passed away from a heart attack at age 38! To this day the arias Habenera and Toreador which has been featured in commericals and movies alike.
When youre passionate about something the way you are, i think people would dig long-form stuff. I decided to look into operas last night because, quarantine. It seems like everything wants to sum this incredibly dense subject matter into a few minutes. it's not fair to it.
Thank you! Yes, it does feel like sometime opera is put into this little square where if you don't like one opera you don't like any. No one does that to movies or books and there is so much room to discuss them online :)
@@VivsGreen there are so many "extra" things that go into a production from the set design to the lighting to choreography, when the folks doing those things care, it creates so many more levels to the story. dig what you're doing, keep it up please.
I'm shocked it didn't do well the first time. The music is so good! Why do you think it flopped the first time? Was the style just not the trend at the time?
Yea but like weren't there like breeches roles (I know theatre had these roles I don't know about Opera) which objectified women at the time? Old timey people were so weird man. "we should sexualize women. AHHH not like though..." 😂😂😂😂

Hey! The “G” word when referring to Roma or Romani is considered a slur, most people don’t know but I like your channel a lot
This is a really funny vid' which is both super informative and really helpful. Thanks! :)
So glad it ticked all those boxes! Thank you! 😊
I'm shocked it didn't do well the first time. The music is so good! Why do you think it flopped the first time? Was the style just not the trend at the time?
Well, having Carmen dancing half-naked (for the time) on stage had a lot to do with it.
