Larys wants Aegon to stay so that way he can gain more power through him. He’s now the master of whispers on the small council and his personal torturer. If Aegon were to die in battle, then the throne would pass to Aemond and he isn’t to easy to manipulate if he were King. And if the blacks ever do capture King’s Landing and killed Alicent, Helaena, and every other green member, then Larys would lose his power and probably die as well. He’s trying to keep Aegon alive for as long as he can because he’s giving him more and more influence and positions. He’s a smart one.
Very much reminiscent of
Littlefinger's quiet Influence over Joffery's ordering of the Execution of Ned Stark in season 1.
There is likely more to it than that. He is also sowing division within Aegon's court. Earlier, he sowed the seeds that lead to Otto's dismissal and here he plants seeds to make Aegon paranoid toward the influence of his mother and brother. He is isolating him.
Ageon used to pick on Aemond when he was younger so it's hardly new.
the harrenhal set was absolutely stunning. Like, wow. Also found it hilarious that Alicent seems like she is so sick of Cole's shit when he asked for something to remember her by LMAO

I think Larys was angling for being made Hand when he told Argon that Otto was his father’s hand last week. But Cole was in the room and Larys wasn’t when Aegon fired Otto. But I doubt Larys is satisfied with Master of Whispers. Probably part of the reason Larys didn’t want Aegon to help Cole. If Cole is dead then Larys would probably replace him as Hand.

I still do think we are thinking of them as a last resort. Like once this starts, all bets are off. And a dragon can win a city but can’t garrison or hold one, unless we are basically in a “burn them all mode”.
Well a dragon can burn things but not protect a assasin from enter a castle to kill the rider so soldiers and armies are still needed to defeat the others
