They'd BETTER release this in America, is all I'm saying. When you get right down to the skin and bones, Eternal Champions CD isn't a fantastic game, but it felt like the designers wrung as much potential out of the hardware as possible. Annet Again is a game we missed, but I understand that it's one of the highlights of the Sega CD library.
That would be very nice. I kinda hope Virtua Fighter is included too, but I doubt it since if 32x games were included we would have received the 32x version of Virtua Racing.
I'd like to see Eternal Champions if only so I could at last play it, but I am doubtful they'd ever actually include it. From what I've heard that game got caught up in a struggle between SoA and SEGA JP, as Japan wanted to champion Virtua Fighter and US wanted the resources to develop a Saturn version of the game. Odds are JP bosses saw it as "competition" and simply do not care for it... but we can always be hopeful they'll be kinder to it these days.
This is phenomenal! I'm hoping the American/PAL version of the game roster stays the same as what we've been shown! I've never played 95% of the Sega CD library personally, and Popful Mail is one of the ones that's been on top of my list. I'm definitely hoping for the Lunar games and Snatcher myself!
@@rosema7909 If someone didn’t already purchase the Genesis mini, this will still be a good pickup. But if you already have a Genesis mini, ESPECIALLY if it’s already modded with Sega CD games, then yeah this isn’t worth your time. I personally could’ve gone for a Dreamcast mini, but hey Sega isn’t THAT cool
@@TheJmack90 If you're at the point of modding your minis you may as well just get a Raspberry Pi and emulate everything. I've got the first mini and I'll pick this up too if the full library is as solid as what's already been revealed. They're just cool little novelties to me.
Snatcher, Night Trap, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, TMNT Hyperstone Heist, and Mortal Kombat are definitely at the top of my wish list for this. Lots of great predictions here, SLX!
I'm curious, why Mortal Kombat? When there are so many other ways to play the better arcade version now. Also Hyperstone Heist is part of that Turtles collection coming out so that might hurt that game's chances.
@@pcharl01 Cult classic. I would definitely want to play it once if it was on a console like this. Not that I'd imagine it'd be particularly exhilarating, but given its reputation and status as a 'controversial' game, it's part of gaming history and something I'd like to experience retroactively.
With the little 32x add on thing, you would think it would have to include some 32x games. Knuckles Chaotix and Virtua Fighter I think would be locks. I would also think the eternal champions for Sega CD would be another choice, but idk if they’re trying to avoid releasing “M” rated games since the first genesis mini has a “T” rating.
Sorry, Sega already mentioned that M2 declined to handle 32X emulation for this project. (Unless they are playing cute in order to surprise us with one 32X game at the end…) The mini 32X they showed was an add-on toy released for the first Mega Drive Mini in Japan. They were just showing it is compatible with the second model as well.
@@chazmaru9583 Yeah, they wouldn't be showing SVP Virtua Racing if they intended to included 32X titles, Virtua Racing Deluxe supersedes the Genesis title on all fronts.
I love how this video doubles as a “must play list” for Sega CD. I’m so stoked that system and its great library is getting some attention. So many great and easily overlooked games. Great vid as always!
I feel like Snatcher and Rocket Knight Adventures should be definite grabs for them. Final FIght CD would be an excellent addition too. I'd love to see them add something unexpected as well, like EA's Haunting: Starring Polterguy or Risky Woods.
Snatcher just HAS to be in the lineup. I can't imagine even bothering with a Sega CD best-of release and not including Snatcher. But after seeing what happened with the Sega Genesis & SNES minis, I've got a good feeling about Snatcher and Final Fight making the cut.
Gonna be a few obstacles for snatcher, besides agreeing with Konami. 1. A western version would have to be done as this version was never released in japan. 2. (Maybe the biggest obstacle) they would have to figure out a way to do the light gun mechanics. I not sure if everything could be done with just a controller. Even if they do a new light gun, that would be new tech they would have to implement for modern TVs.
Please Konami give Sega the rights to put Snatcher on the 2nd Genesis Mini. The Sega CD version was the only version to be released in the states and I would buy the Mini for it alone.
All Konami cares about is money, which Sega doesn't have a lot of. You're talking about Konami, a company which primarily makes gambling machines, asking them to do something kind. Don't get your hopes up about Konami ever doing anything good for the gaming community. I'm surprised the Cowabunga Collection ever happened. Konami doesn't care about games, gamers, or their IPs, especially older, less mainstream ones. Konami is the kitty who doesn't give no shitty.
This NEEDS Snatcher. And Chakan is fantastic once you get good at it. If you didn't have the manual (as was our fate as it didn't come with when we rented as kids) it is insanely difficult to progress. But with a guide, both this and Shining In The Darkness are my two favorite games announced so far amongst the terrific list.
Some excellent choices here, very reasonable considering licensing issues etc. I still think they will come up with something that no-one expected (like tetris with the original mini). I never thought I'd need or want another Sega mini console, but I don't think I'll be able to resist if the games are anything like what's in your list 👍
You listing is spot on for me even if I know I'll never see games like Star Wars: Rebel Assault or The Terminator for the Sega CD but still love to get the Mini 2. And yes I still have all three Sega CD units model 1, 2 and CDX and they still work.
Sounds like something worth getting, if for no other reason than to modify it. Of course there are other reasons, like Popful Mail. Only problem is that when I play Sega CD games, I do so because I get to use the Sega CD.
This list of games (that you made) is really good! I confess that I'm looking forward to the release of the Genesis 2 Classic Mini Edition (mainly in North America), but I would also like that SEGA could release the Master System Classic Mini Edition... Anyway... Let's wait for the next weeks/months to see what actually happens...
I love the perfect simulation of the Sega CD as an add on, complete with pretty much THE Sega CD game in the drive. The addition of Sega CD games is a pretty smart move, making a Sega CD mini alone would probably never get enough people to buy it, so tying it together with Genesis, as it was originally meant to be? Perfect. The first Sega mini didn't ultimately draw me in enough with it's lineup, mostly because it didn't have Sonic 3&K, which is like the pinnacle of Genesis. So if they have that, I might just think about it I'd also love to see Snatcher and Lunar get a release on this system, give people an official way to play those games more easily. And yeah, GOTTA have Ranger X, it's such a showpiece for Genesis. Also, gotta show Mean Bean Machine some love.
Renasas Chips are needed for that. Which aren't as Cheap as ARM Cortex, and anything stock from Zuiki and Mediatek. MonKing Games will be using Renasas Chips for its Next Gen MONSTER The "Razor" its been developing since 2016 that it wants to pitch to SEGA.
Couldn't be happier with this announcement! I've been too late to get the first MD Mini for a reasonable price around where I live and I've always been interested in certain CD games. Let's hope that list of 50 contains the stuff you've listed :-)
I'd be excited for the Mini 2. I hope it really does come outside of Japan, and hopefully more Genesis/Mega Drive games that weren't on the 2019 original Genesis Mini like Ristar, Pulseman, Vectorman 2 and Sonic 3&Knuckles etc get included though of course I know the latter would be unlikely for rerelease if the original in-game soundtrack is left intact and would be really thrilled to try Sega CD titles other than Sonic CD.
@@DigiPen92 So am I. It’s listed as Sonic 3 & Knuckles, of which the first half of the game is Sonic 3 and will have that same music that was in dispute.
@@happyspaceinvader508 No, you're not getting what I meant. I'm saying this is unlikely to have OG Sonic 3 in the Sega Genesis Mini 2 due to Sega had tried to contact Michael Jackson's family to have Sonic 3 be rereleased again after Michael Jackson passed away. Sega couldn't get a Yes Answer from Michael Jackson's family to rerelease Original Sonic 3 on current consoles. I have never specified I was talking about Sonic Origins since we know it's a remastered version of the Sega Genesis Sonic titles release on non-Sega Mini Consoles. Even Ash Paulsen who used to work on GameXplain did asked some of the staff who worked on Sega said that they couldn't rerelease OG Sonic 3 on the Sega Genesis Mini 1 due to the Music and the Permission that Sega couldn't get in touch with.
I'd love to see some kind of blitz survival mode where you play a level from one game then it loads another from a different game at random. You have one life in each game with the aim being to see how long you can survive and how many genres you can make it through. It'd be a great test of skill as well as a way of seeing games and levels you may otherwise miss.
Another new Astro City Mini announced, releasing next month and now this? It would be great if they threw in Keio Flying Squadron. It’s such a good time to be a Sega fan.
Let's hope SEGA releases this in the US and that one of the games included is Crusader of Centy. SEGA owns Atlus after all. Glad to see Popful Mail in there and one can only hope Keio Flying Squadron. Robo Aleste or Lords of Thunder make the cut and SEGA cuts on the repeat usual offenders like Ecco. Glaring omissions on the first mini (pick anyone you like): Valis 1 & 3, Cadash, Gaiares, Grind Stomer, Growl, Gley Lancer, Heavy Unit, Atomic Robo-Kid, Eliminate Down, Wings of Wor, MERCS, Verytex, Slap Fight, Twinkle Tale, Vapor Trail, Sol-Deace (also pack in for the SEGA CD1), Mega SWIV (Silkworm for the MD!), the impressive Viewpoint port, Fatal Fury 2 & Special (CD), Ys III, Exile, El Viento, Warsong, Herzog Zwei, Rock'n Roll Racing, Turbo Outrun, ThunderFox, Rastan Saga 2, Double Dragon (don't care for the bad sound effects, it's nearly arcade perfect), Power Instinct, Two Crude Dudes, Target Earth (those difficulty spikes bruh!), Blades of Vengeance, Panorama Cotton, Red Zone, The too bad, licenced brand, movie-tv losses: Batman, Batman Returns (CD), Judge Dredd, Demolition Man, The Terminator (CD), McDonald's Treasure Land, Universal Soldier (NOOO! Muh Turrican!), Gargoyles, Captain America & The Avengers (that music tho!), Dune 1& 2.
@@Lifesizemortal these things only sell for nostalgia. There is no market for saturn. Only 3 million Saturns were sold in the west compared to 30-40 million megadrives
Genesis Mini was so close to perfect that certain game/genre omissions bugged me to my core. Glad Shining in the Darkness is on the new Mini. I know dungeon crawlers were old fashioned even by the 90's, but they have their fans, and DnD is reportedly bigger than ever. Hopefully a few more EA titles get announced. Splatterhouse 2, Mortal Kombat 2, Herzog Zewi...
Pretty excited about this news. I never owned a Sega CD and only ever saw a 32x in person one time, an older kid had Doom for it. My list may include some wishful thinking but here it is anyway... And I'll try to get to 39. Alladin, Revenge of Shinobi, Super Hang On, Streets of Rage 3, Phantasy Star 2 & 3, Sonic 3, Sonic and Knuckles, Ristar, Final Fight CD, Batman, Mortal Kombat 2 (32x), Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Micro Machines, the other version of Street Fighter 2 that I'm pretty sure exists on Genesis w/ Cammy, T Hawk etc., Batman Returns CD, Road Rash 3, Greatest Heavyweights (although it'd probably be easier to score Evander Holyfield Real Deal boxing), NBA Jam T.E. (32x), DooM (32x), Shadow Dancer, WWF Royal Rumble and/or WWF Raw, WWF WrestleMania The Arcade Game (32x), Thunder Force IV, Shining Force 2, X Men 2, Vectorman 2, Splatter House 2 umm I'm running low on ideas so I'll leave my list off here but the possibilities are almost endless with the massive Genesis library and the Sega CD and 32x games to potentially choose from.
I think Snatcher for sure - the japanese version was included on the pc engine mini. Really looking forward to this - the megadrive mini was the best mini console and a fantastic little bit of kit. Snatcher, Road Avenger and Final Fight are all musts for me - but even if they arent included I will still be getting one of these and playing it to death.
The PC Engine Mini was a Konami product though, however we did get some Konami choices on the Megamini 1. Probably got a chance due to it having a western translated version - I think we'll get it.
When I heard the news I knew you would make a video. Some of these games I played on other compilation but some have never been released here . I want it
I don't know...I've just never been drawn to any of these minis. As someone who still plays the original hardware it's very easy to get any of these software titles (even exquisite replicas like the Crusader of Centy I just got) the minis just seem superfluous. I guess they are neat little models, but I have the originals...so they aren't of any use to me. I will admit that this would be a unique offering because of the Sega CD, but my best friend still has his and there was really nothing I found interesting. I know, I know...I'm a party pooper. 🤷♂️

NOW is the time for SEGA to get on the phone with a big component producer and throw their hat in to the ring- a new SEGA console. The amount of SEGA IP's that they could make exclusive would be a huge advantage
Sega publishing their games on other consoles is all reward, no risk. The only people chomping at the bit for a new proper Sega console are the ones who refuse to accept that Sega's console division died because of Sega.
@@SomeOrangeCat It's not so much a new SEGA console, as the potential for new incarnation's of their IP's. The graphical leap in this gen has stagnated- my 6 year old PC is more powerful than a PS5 in 4K. NOW is the time when the general 'Call of Duty' players will accept 4k average in terms of graphical capabilities. With a silicon partner, SEGA could cushion a console release. I heard once that SEGA Arcade publishers whom helped with console conversions were the best in the world.....
@@blazzingsaddles You realize that "Sega" isn't the same Sega that used to make consoles right? They're a holding company "Sega Sammy Holdings" They're a label that gets slapped on stuff other people make.
@@SomeOrangeCat So,..are..you..saying, someone else can make a product for you and you put your name on it? Isn't that how most things are made! A company doesn't need to own all 3 economic sectors. A massive catalogue of titles, get another company to make it- use the talents that work on current SEGA releases/game updates for the games.
@@blazzingsaddles As in, Sega is an empty shell of it's former self. None of the people who did any of that old Sega magic is still there. Now it's "What can we do to make the most amount of money...with the least amount of effort!" That is not the kind of company that would go out of their way to get back into the console market proper. Then you've got the other big problem. They let most of their IPs lose relevance, to the point they do NOT have the same impact they once had. House of the Dead Remake and SoR4 are good games, but certainly not console sellers.
Version 2 doesn’t mean anything it’s not like PS4 then PS5 better graphics you can hack the other Sega Genesis Super Nintendo NES mini and add Sega CD games on them no need for the mega drive 2 it’s not like the PS5 xbox series X Nintendo Switch where you must have those consoles to play the exclusive games they won’t run on the older generations I can run a Super Nintendo game on my NES mini or run any kind of game doesn’t have to be Nintendo you can have a Sega game running on a PS1 classic your going to buy the Sega mega drive 2 so you can play Sega CD games why not just hack your Super Nintendo classic unlock all the Sega CD games no need to wait
The draw is because it's official, it's nostalgic, and it doesn't need to be hacked. The mass market wants something they can hook up and play. And in case you haven't noticed, you can't buy the other Mini consoles anymore at retail. This is simply the new model and you can still hack it if that's your thing. It's win/win for everyone.
These are perfect for just who don’t have the mini consoles that just released that’s for the people who were born last year that are still babies with no money 💰 that’s if their parents don’t own any of the mini consoles
On Megadrive: Robocop VS The Terminator, Forgotten Worlds, Mortal Kombat 2, TMNT The Hyperstone Heist On MegaCD: The Terminator, Spiderman VS the Kingpin
In the first moment I was disappointed because hoped for a Saturn or Dreamcast Mini, but when I realized that half of the games are Mega CD titles they had me. Then the Mega CD Mini add on made me freaking out. Love this new mini console!
Sega could probably make a lot of money if they made thier minis with changeable carts, each cart could have like 20 games each on it. They could compete directly with the Evercade. They could make a normal sized Gamegear but let it play all of the sega emulated systems up to the dreamcast, and release games for it in cartridge packs.
I also think that Sega could be back in the hardware business with a device like that, it doesn’t need to target the high end console market and it still would do pretty well.
Kinda agree. People were saying this back at the Nes Mini announcement and it would have made the mini consoles even better imo. At least Evercade saw the potential.
Quality to hear this announcement. As a die hard Sega fan I realltly look foward to this but it's a Master System mini I been waiting for for years...Such a globally underrated console 💯
Having Silpheed, possibly Road Avenger (with the Sega CD intro), Urban Strike (never played it, but loved the 2 previous games) and E-SWAT (my absolutely most beloved game) I’ll have to buy it. From all the consoles I have/had, the Mega Drive is the only one I have a sentimental connection with.
My dream SCD picks were pretty much mentioned (lunar 1+2, snatcher and Final Fight, only missing Eye of the Beholder, though we'd probably have to have mega mouse compatibility for the last)

Yeah, becuase it’s the same thing! Lame, they’ve got much better consoles. You must have never heard of the Saturn or Dreamcast
@@rosema7909 It must suck having to be this bitter about good news. Get a life.
@@rosema7909 If someone didn’t already purchase the Genesis mini, this will still be a good pickup. But if you already have a Genesis mini, ESPECIALLY if it’s already modded with Sega CD games, then yeah this isn’t worth your time.

I want a dreamcast mini. I'm tired mini consoles for 16bit era games. They need to move forward already.
Why Night Trap?
@@pcharl01 Cult classic. I would definitely want to play it once if it was on a console like this. Not that I'd imagine it'd be particularly exhilarating, but given its reputation and status as a 'controversial' game, it's part of gaming history and something I'd like to experience retroactively.
Sonic 3&K would be amazing, but it'll likely never happen given the complicated legal issues surrounding it. It's a shame.
@@Apanblod it's coming out on Sonic Origins
With the little 32x add on thing, you would think it would have to include some 32x games. Knuckles Chaotix and Virtua Fighter I think would be locks. I would also think the eternal champions for Sega CD would be another choice, but idk if they’re trying to avoid releasing “M” rated games since the first genesis mini has a “T” rating.
I want to play Kolibri. That would be great.
Sorry, Sega already mentioned that M2 declined to handle 32X emulation for this project. (Unless they are playing cute in order to surprise us with one 32X game at the end…)
The mini 32X they showed was an add-on toy released for the first Mega Drive Mini in Japan. They were just showing it is compatible with the second model as well.
@@chazmaru9583 Yeah, they wouldn't be showing SVP Virtua Racing if they intended to included 32X titles, Virtua Racing Deluxe supersedes the Genesis title on all fronts.

I feel like Snatcher and Rocket Knight Adventures should be definite grabs for them. Final FIght CD would be an excellent addition too. I'd love to see them add something unexpected as well, like EA's Haunting: Starring Polterguy or Risky Woods.
My wishlist:
-Snatcher
-Rocketknight Adventures
-Knuckles' Chaotix
-The cancelled Super Star Wars port
Snatcher just HAS to be in the lineup. I can't imagine even bothering with a Sega CD best-of release and not including Snatcher. But after seeing what happened with the Sega Genesis & SNES minis, I've got a good feeling about Snatcher and Final Fight making the cut.
I don't think Snatcher will be present, not without censorship.
The PC-ENGINE/Turbo Graphx 16 mini did have Snatcher. Unfortunately no English translation. Sega CD did have it in English.
There is some excitement in your voice, and I dig it 👍🏻
If it turns out Lunar The Silver Star is one of the 50 games then I’m sold.
Final Fight CD would be amazing, already got my preorder in.
Sounds like something worth getting, if for no other reason than to modify it. Of course there are other reasons, like Popful Mail.
Only problem is that when I play Sega CD games, I do so because I get to use the Sega CD.
If you modify the existing genesis/megadrive mini then you can have every game here anyway.
Imagine 32x doom with new, non-fart-based music...we can only hope lol
This list of games (that you made) is really good! I confess that I'm looking forward to the release of the Genesis 2 Classic Mini Edition (mainly in North America), but I would also like that SEGA could release the Master System Classic Mini Edition... Hopefully, we will get Quackshot on this system. That was my favorite Sega produced Disney game on the Genesis.
So if they have that, I might just think about it
I'd also love to see Snatcher and Lunar get a release on this system, give people an official way to play those games more easily. And yeah, GOTTA have Ranger X, it's such a showpiece for Genesis. Also, gotta show Mean Bean Machine some love.
wow, i'm really excited. The first Mini just included games you could get on steam, sega CD thats great. Can't wait.

Just the fact that they've included Silpheed with this makes it an automatic must-buy for me! I LOVED playing that game on my Sega CD!
Well technically that they did said that Sega aren't going to rerelease Sonic 3 anymore due to the music rights issues with Michael Jackson created.
@@DigiPen92 Sonic 3 will feature in the Sonic Origins release later this month, so I imagine they have all of that sorted out now.
