I remember watching a video years ago now that profiled Rob's life after making RDR1, where he'd decided to step back from acting to tend to a farm and provide for his family, his wife and growing kids. I got so emotional watching that video, not just because Rob brought John to life and made him into one of my all time favorite characters, but more that he was happy and at peace with life and the path he was headed down. I guess what made me that much more emotional was the fact that he'd turned so much into the man John was at the end of his life, a guy who wanted for nothing more than to provide the absolute best life for his family, and would be willing to answer any call to protect them. Rob just seems to be an all around good guy with a humble and level head on his shoulders, and it's been amazing to follow his journey in and out of the spurs all these years. Both he and Marston have given me a lot of comfort, joy and inspiration in my own life, and I know that this is true for countless others.

I found that video here on TH-cam a few months ago! Made me tear up as well. To see a man cry just talking about his family...that’s a kind, pure heart right there. He’s one of the good ones
John will always be my favourite. RDR2 just contextualised him a bit more. He made mistakes as a young man but it makes his character in RDR1 even more stoic.
I hold the Red Dead Redemption series up there with the greatest movies, operas, books, plays, etc. These games are some of the best story telling and in 500 years from now it will still be talked about as a classic piece of art.
Red Dead Redemption means the world to me. The first game came out when I was in high school. My home life wasn’t great, and Red Dead was my escape from all the bad around me. It inspired me to move out west, and as a kid in high school, I remember saying that one day I would have a ranch of my own. when I turned 20 I made my way to a small mountain town in the middle of nowhere in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, married the love of my life, and as of last March I’m proud to say I purchased my own ranch at the foot the mountains. My wife and I have decided to name it beecher's hope, as tribute to all Red Dead has done for me. My wife wanted a ps4 last Christmas, and now Red Dead Redemption 2 online has become something special we do as a family. I found out this year that we’re going to have a baby. When my child grows up, I cant wait to show them the game that inspired me, and gave me the drive to make my dreams come true . This game means more to me than any other form of media ever created.
I love this guy. Seriously. I come from a small town, too...and he didn't care for the whole LA vibe and really didn't even give much of a shit about video games...he just landed the role of a lifetime because of his unique voice and completely threw himself into the gaming scene and he interacts with the fans and seems SO appreciative of the opportunity he's been given. He always says how much he enjoys making the games and working with the people behind them and never hesitates when asked if he would come back for another game. Never tries to act "big time" and instead just gives an excited "yes". He seems like a typical small town dude from a country town that was discovered because of his unique talent.

Mr Wiethoff, sir, i've been a gamer all my life, which is more that 35 years now. You've given a lot of praise to rockstar, and sure, they deserve it. I met Rob Wiethoff at SacAnime 2019. He is such a down to earth dude. Literally no shade on any of the other voice talent but Rob was the only dude walking around the room talking to people. The rest of them were kind of in the “safe zone” behind the areas the public weren’t allowed to go. To be fair everyone wanted like 10 million photos with Roger Clark so I can see why he didn’t want to move too far. But I was there for the OG gunslinger. John f-ing Marston!
I remember back in 2010 I just got an Xbox 360 and the first game I managed to get was RD. It was winter vacation I think and I remember helping my father in his liquor store. I’d always bring my 360 to his store put it in the back and play for countless hours. A week later I can remember beating the game in his store and I screamed. I told him “dad they just killed John!!” He said well son I’ll take a good shot of whiskey for our fallen soldier”. Such a great memory.
What I love about Rob is his gratefulness. Do a quick search of Rockstar actors and an overwhelming amount are pissed. About pay, about treatment, about whatever else. But even after Rob's somewhat crappy introduction to Rockstar he still has nothing but positive things to say about the company and experiences he had. I'm sure there were bad or downright awful moments but Rob is the kind of guy to not talk down or poorly. Love that, never mind John is the best character (in my opinion) ever crafted.
Man. I must say yes this game has done so much for me. Since covid-19 hit my life is just red dead online all day every day being in locked down. It gives me something to look forward to I played story mode for over 500 hours before covid hit playing as john marston and then discovered online ten months ago. This game has been great to me. I can't stop playing. The world is just so beautiful to explore and all the people I meet and have deep conversation with total strangers in these tuff times. It's just been the best game. Especially for an older generation. I've played with 45, 55, 38 year olds and it's great to converse with these people. It's just amazing. Great work on your acting! Thanks for everything you have done!
It’s obvious what got you the part. That sweet, gravelly cowboy voice. They probably heard your voice in some old commercial you did and said “that’s our John Marston”
Red Dead Redemption was a part of my early adulthood. It's probably still my favourite game and I think I've extracted every little secret there is to find in it. It wasn't just a fun game to play and spend time in - it inspired me in many ways. When I had just got the game, one morning I had the soundtrack playing in my ears as I would go walk my dog at dawn, after playing RDR the entire night. I remember so well how that field looked in that particular morning. Summer had just started, it was a beautiful morning, and there was a slight mist hanging over it. My dog was roaming free and having fun. I love nature, but at that moment I apperciated it all even more than usual. It was a different athmosphere for me, and it was all thanks to that game. I love this guy. Can't imagine anyone more perfect for John's role.
The fact that you respect the opportunity and the fans came across really well. You seem like a top humble down to earth bloke. I like you and want to buy you a beer! Enjoyed that thanks. 1 and 2 are my favourite games ever. Masterpieces.
One incredible things is, here he is the sweetest, happiest guy in the world, and if you go back to the game, bam! the same voice is now John Marston, and the passage is instantious. I cant begin to comprehed such magical acting.
Hi Rob . I'm closing my eyes and I have your character in my head. Not taking away from you great visage but none of your co stars have the voice in real life . I love this game and I hope to hear your gravely voice again in other games. 🍀🇮🇪🍀

I told him “dad they just killed John!!” He said well son I’ll take a good shot of whiskey for our fallen soldier”. Such a great memory.
I love john the most out of all the red dead characters. He is truely inspiring!
I could listen to you talk all day.
This comment from you made me snort!😂☠️
This dude literally became John. He left his former acting life behind to live a peaceful life in the country with his family.
Until rockstar called him back for rdr2
@@lemmythebulldog8812 Just like agent Ross
What I love about Rob is his gratefulness. Do a quick search of Rockstar actors and an overwhelming amount are pissed. About pay, about treatment, about whatever else. But even after Rob's somewhat crappy introduction to Rockstar he still has nothing but positive things to say about the company and experiences he had. I'm sure there were bad or downright awful moments but Rob is the kind of guy to not talk down or poorly. Love that, never mind John is the best character (in my opinion) ever crafted.
I love Rob so much, he's so loveable and hIS DAD JOKES ARE GOLD LMAO
Me: the videos 40 minutes don't know if i can watch it in 1 sitting.
Me after watching after watching it: i could listen to Rob speak for years.
"Habla English?"
- John Marston
Just hearing him speak puts a smile on my face
This guy voices like 3 characters and it’s absolutely amazing, all 3 of them show up in red dead 2 aswell and it’s awesome!
Who disliked this? Seriously.
Damn O'Driscoll
Micah the snitch/rat/snake/traitor
Obviously it was Edgar Ross.

Rob has such a genuine personality and his voice sold the part clearly.
He must be honoured to have voiced one of the most badass characters in any video game
Close you eye's and think he's talking to Abigail or uncle 😂👌👍
So true...
😂😂👍
Mike moeller I like your profile pic John looks much more badass with his own hair instead of Arthur’s hairstyle
I would be so happy to have his voice like he has the most unique and coolest voice I've ever heard
He is the best
I love listening to your interviews, Rob! I always learn a few things from you everytime. Thanks for this, man!
Man you guys gave the characters life. I'm totally immersed in this game right now. Hands down the best game I've ever played.
He seems like a genuinely cool person.
It’s obvious what got you the part. That sweet, gravelly cowboy voice. They probably heard your voice in some old commercial you did and said “that’s our John Marston”
John Marston's death is still sad 10 years later.
It'd devastating seeing a remake of the first game with that scene.
@@Klausinator451 Yes i fully agree with you on that it will be even more emotional than it ever was before.
We love your work man.
The fact that you respect the opportunity and the fans came across really well. You seem like a top humble down to earth bloke. I like you and want to buy you a beer! Enjoyed that thanks. 1 and 2 are my favourite games ever. Masterpieces.
John and arthur are the best characters of the all videogames.
"Get outside, let some sun on your face, feel the grass" Great words right there. Gotta have that connection with nature, it's better than any game.
Imagine being him and have John Marston's voice 😂. A dream come true.
One incredible things is, here he is the sweetest, happiest guy in the world, and if you go back to the game, bam! the same voice is now John Marston, and the passage is instantious. I cant begin to comprehed such magical acting.
I just love when he breaks out laughing ^.^ Damn he's voice is so chill and raw!!
Every time I watch this guy I can't help but smile. Just a really good dude.
He always makes me smile
I love Rob's hat
This man started my love for gaming off. That's crazy 😂
its so adorable and heart warming how happy and proud he is of playing John and the reaction to the game.
Hi Rob .
I'm closing my eyes and I have your character in my head.
Not taking away from you great visage but none of your co stars have the voice in real life . I love this game and I hope to hear your gravely voice again in other games.
🍀🇮🇪🍀
After beating RDR 1 and RDR 2 about 10 times each, it is super surreal hearing and seeing Rob talk to the camera. His default voice is John's lol
