Hi Glyn, congratulations on getting that large lot of Sheep sold. It is nice that the manager of Kenmare market looks out for the farmers to help them get the best price. Unfortunately many young people today don't have the work ethic to work raise Sheep and all the hard work to be successful. A lot of the younger generation want to earn money working online sitting at a computer.
Young farmer payment up to 8 thousand a year for the first 5 years isn't a bad incentive if the interest is there . Sheep are hardship so not many have the interest . Lambs sold and rams be back out again in a few weeks and we will all forget how hard a year we had by the time lambing starts again.
@@martinodonoghue969 you're right, it's the hardship, but 8000 wouldn't buy much now if a young farmer wants to improve things on the far. It would even buy a new quad.😅 bit no interest there aswell

Ya the creep fed lambs. There was no comparison. The marts were better being honest, I'm struggling for grass now so need gone at lighter weights. But ya the marts are better 100% Ordinarily man gets screwed over in the factory tbh.
@sheepshepherd We use the electronic tag reader here to scan all sheep tags leaving the farm. Then on the dispatch docket just fill in the number of sheep and destination. When sheep go to mart then the tags are all scanned again and you receive a printout of all tag numbers. Takes the labour out of reading and recording every individual tag with pen and paper.
Hello from southern Colorado. I was talking to my farmer friend yesterday. Two year old hay big rectangular bale is going for $200. Hard to make a living. Where are we going to be without our ranchers and farmers? I guess hungry.

Very true, but tbf it's not their fault. The government are making it harder and harder to be a farmer, no incentives their for young farmers

Why is there a shortage of lambs?
Shortage of lambs with flesh as feed is too expensive.
People are cutting back numbers as there is no money in sheep.
