Awesome video Glyn You're turning out some great lambs for the factory you're doing some job finishing them That's a fine looking ram you bought You don't need to change anything with the videos Glyn keep doing what you're doing showing us the everyday life of a real sheep farmer the hard work you have to do and everything else that comes with being a sheep farmer in Ireland Really enjoyed the video as always looking forward to the next one
Thanks John, really appreciate it, I was thinking of going to other farmers aswell and maybe doing a video with a big suckled and dairy farmer. Just to show people the difference. 👍
@@sheepshepherd That's a good idea Glyn showing suckler/dairy farmers and getting their take on how farming is going in Ireland because you have people from all over the world watching your videos
Maybe you could do a video on the eligible bachelors in your area, of all ages. (Joking, or maybe not.) Could you do a video on what you are looking for in a tup, for maternal (replacement ewes) and terminal (market lambs). Enjoying your videos, the rapport between you and you Dad is legend.
Dont know about any one else's but even though i at the same stuff as yourself day in day out normal day to day stuff very interesting everyone does things different should do a live q and a with your father some time them old time story's very interesting 👍👍🤙
Today is a very wet day, and I fired out a good few questions at him. Will throw them up next time👍👍 If you think of any more especially long go. Let me know. People love listening to the older farmers rather than the new ones😂👍👍
For video ideas.. . I"m honestly just happy going with you through your day of farming. I can't get outside much, so it's nice to get a little window into another life.
Ideas for videos: how long has your dad/family been farming sheep? What has changed in all of those years (good and bad)? How did you come to sheep farming? What are the future (near and long term) plans for the farms? How many sheep total do you have? How many employees/helpers do you have?
I was thinking something similar. A biography of the generations of animal farming would be fascinating and if it were me, I would enjoy documenting my family history for posterity. The history there must be very rich. Really enjoy your videos. I e spent some time watching Scottish shepherds and I finally understand them 😂. Now I’m trying to learn the Irish lingo. What is the average productive life span of a hill sheep on your farm? Thanks.
best of luck glyn with the sale of your sheep/ hope you make a big prices for your lambs and sheep. my name is patrick and. i keep farmers always in my prayers
Hi Glyn, great video of selling your Lambs and Ewes at the market. On the mountain road it seemed really narrow for only one car or truck. What happens if you meet another vehicle coming the other direction? An idea for a future video is looking back on the history of your farm what would you say was the most challenging year and one that was the most prosperous? Also in your father's family how many generations back were involved in raising sheep?
Cheers, My father used castrate them before but we stopped 10 years ago. We keep them separate to the ewe lambs once weaned, and fatten every ram lamb then. We try to get them all over the 40kg mark plus👍 Do you think we should ring their balls?
Good video, becoming the highlight of the week✅. Find your videos relatable,I think thats key going forward. The beltex is a lump of a ram, best of luck with them.
That's great to heat. Glad you like them. Ya one beltex and two beltex/texels, hopefully they will make finishing the lambs easier👍thanks for the comment
I think you should keep doing what your doing for future videos just keep doing all the seasonal jobs of the work of a sheep farm, but I’d say definitely to a couple tipping videos and which rams your putting to which ewes and for hill, terminal, maternal/ replacement lambs, and if you put the commercial ram out earlier in October and the Hill ram out in November/Early December
Super ideas their neil. And I will be doing a video exactly how you explained 👍👍 thanks for the comment. True. There is always something to do. Like you said seasonal. Always changing
If you run out of ideas just keep doing a day in the life. Lots of people want to see the scenery and stock checks, etc. Doesn't need to be overly complicated. Maybe showing more confirmation or problems with a specific sheep, etc.
No need to tell a kerry man.there cute out😅😊.didnt ur father have sone job years ago walking them to the fairs.but they knew no different.u have a fine blast of lambs moved on now.under the matress would be nice and warm now😂😅.u have fine rams.
You should not be using formaline all the time blue stone and good shot if fairy is better curer if had ewe with bad infection in foot formaline only ceals it and not good then
Ya you are spot on. We try to pull out any lame ewes before the formalin if we can. Ya I'm going using bluestone when I've finished a new handling unit we are building over the next few month's 👍👍👍

I actually met a car and she couldn't back, so I had to back half a mile with a trailer on, it was a nightmare tbh🙈🙈🙈👍😅
Its a great insight into sheep farming on the hilly ground .
Do you always leave the ram lambs entire and feed them for a specific market ?

Michael Cusack Smith yes
👍👍
What fertiliser do you use, and before synthetic fertiliser what did your dad use, 😊Great videos , keep going
Mighty question, any other questions like this let me know.
I'll try do a video of all questions. Thanks so much👍👍
Did well on the old ewes
Not too bad tbf👍👍
Can you make a video showing how your dogs help you herd? Also do you ever have a vet come out?
Ok thank you, we will do that. No not really, we don't have the vet out much,we used have him out more when we had the cows, thanks for the comment 👍
That road up Ballach Beama is only fit for cycling
Very true 😂👍
Rough but beautiful. I did not realize how rocky the mountain land, need rugged stock for such goings
Cheers
It's nice when the weather is good😅
For your father, any real difference he's seen from the way they train dogs today compared to how he used to train them?
Now that's a great question. Be interested to see that answer as he has some interesting ways of training them😂😂 thanks for that👍👍

Just wondering has your father ever suffer lambs or sheep being stolen or attacked by dogs
Yes we had a lot of attacks from dogs, not too bad the last 5years, we had 15 sheep stole last year, so there is always something. It would sicken you
