Good evening from Morocco . the building should be on the area which the first sun rays of winter days reach . this is what the farmers in our mountains say 😮
Lucky the storm didn't come during lambing. I typically lambed in May, when the weather's fair. One year the neighbor snagged the ram's fence with his harrows, while I was on holiday and all my ewes were bred end of August, so I was lambing in -35 weather, with -45 wind chill, January and into February! It was quite the struggle, but I was amazed how well bedded down lambs could survive in an unheated quonset, once they were warmed up and dried off. I had 22 lambs in the house on the coldest day! It's interesting hearing your Dad's memories of the good years and bad years. Would like to see your house being built, maybe you could show video of the blueprints. If your Dad were to carve an extra hurley or two I'd be interested in purchasing one.

Hi Glyn; great to see you and the father, again, I love the videos, brilliant. As regards the ewes at tupping, we here in the Hebrides generally just take them off the hills and moor, just before tupping, and put the rams with them. Folk here who are on better Grazings, around villages, have them in better grass most, or all, of the time so don't flush, as it were. They would just put them on clean parks on the day. There's plenty twins, though, and some guys even have triplets. Across on the mainland, in Caithness I was told, there is some deficiency despite it being beautifully grassy. What I've heard they do there is ; they blood test a handful of sheep and then get the trace element drench to suit. Perhaps an idea? Sally is very èasgaidh (willing); a great help. Where did you get her, if you don't mind me asking? My mate taught me to train to trials standard, 30 years since he started me. He taught me to put sides, stop, walk on, outrun etc on dogs without them having to look at you for direction. I bought at the time Glyn Jones' book, "a way of life" and his three videos. The first two videos would be a great help to you: "come bye and away", and no2: "that'll do". I also have Aled Owen's dvd and Julie Hill's one. I think they would be a help to you. I would like Sally, myself, as she is so willing. Great videos. Gum beannaicheadh Dia sibh👍

Galway abu
It would be interesting to watch progress on the building of your house.
Cheers Tony, thanks for the comment, I'll keep ye updated over the next few month's
Cheers john.
I must a book or dvd on them. It will help. I got Sally in the hills of glencar in Kerry, about an hour from here, she is a great dog infairness to her.
Ya we will have the ewes I'm super grace while with the ram.
No bother, Glyn. Her mother and father must be good dogs as she's so willing; a real good worker with great temperament. I'd like one like her💪🍀👍
@@johnmartin7597ya they are proper sheep dogs. That go in the trais. I'll probably breed her in a few years with another top dog and have great pups
@@sheepshepherd she's well worth taking pups off. Andrew Wallace, in Ireland has a grand dog and I'm sure Paddy Fanning and John Heffernan would suggest a dog 🍀👍
@@johnmartin7597thank you. I'll check himeji out👍👍
Great video Glyn as always good luck on building your new home looking forward to seeing it being built 💪👌
Thanks Garry. Glad you liked it.. cheers for the comment, keep them coming. 👍👍
Make sure you protect yourself from the formalin as it is a carcinogen. But yes worthwhile routine. Looks like you got the biggest hit from storm Agnes. We didn’t get it as hard as the forecast predicted here in Wales. It would be nice to see the plans for your new house, and yes, progress reports would be nice.
Ya it's pure poison so it is🙈
We got hit hard alright, but that's farming you get hit hard sometimes.
Ya excited about the house and looking forward to getting it started 👍 did you build yourself
@@sheepshepherd we are in our eighties now, but we bought our farm with the proceeds of renovating run down properties whilst living in amongst the muddle. These days we host some dairy calves for the Summer which we feed from a sheep snacker trailer and contractors make haylage to sell . Gives us old fossils a reason to get out of a chair. Too much time to look at youtube these days. We also had to renovate the farmhouse and put up buildings for the livestock. Just a pity non of our children want to take it on.
@@wendyrowland7787 Jesus ye are very busy, I hope I'm like that when I'm in my 80s, Ya pity they don't have an interest but sure what can ya do. Sounds like ye had budy times gone by
There fierce green fields even up high into the mountains. Was it always like that or is it the sheep grazing thats helps
My father improved it over the last 50 years. But the sheep have helped big time. Keeping back weeds etc
would love to see the build of the house.
It would be great to see you starting an update on the building of your home
Ya James, I'll try keep ye all updated on our journey, where are you from James?
@sheepshepherd I'm from West Cork .
@@jamesholland7473oh very good so is my wife. She is from ballinascarthy. Are you near there?
@sheepshepherd oh I would be from the Bandon area but have a farm out that direction as well, just near clonakily . So you managed to steal cork woman 😀 we had a lot sheep before, but have out of them almost .. Like watching the TH-cam video ,you always learn something ,so keep up
@@jamesholland7473 thanks James, delighted you like the channel 👍 keep the comments coming 👍👍
how's the new gaf coming on cant find any vids , hopefully all good. cathal
All good. Slowly. Will have more of that on my Instagram tbh. If you're on that
Great videos, I bolus my ewes in October meant to last 6 months, suits for flushing tipping and winter hill grazing. Supplemented with lick buckets and a mineral drench before lambing. Zero meal used with mayo hill ewes. Lamb onto grass with good sileage pre lambing.
Very good. What bolus do you use, and what rams do you put with the mayo ewes? That's fair going to feed no meal
Great job by Sally taking her side inside the pen getting past the ewes, looks like she will be a good dog
Infairness she is a super dog. Great days ahead of her. Have you sheep dogs
Not anymore, My Dad still has the two.@@sheepshepherd
@howarddavies9677 very good, where is the farm
Interesting
Do you mow that pathway? Sorry about the storm damage. Mother Nature is the boss always. Stay well.
No we don't mow it?
Ya mother nature is the boss end of 😂 we can only pray tomorrow is better😅
Would love to see your progress on the house. Could you tell us a bit about the plans and all the stone prep? Seems like a monumental project!
@@claymonsterpotteryit's a 3.000 sq ft house, storey and a half. I will put up plans in the next video and make it more easier👍👍
Harbro dose a foot and fertility we use it along with high energy crystal licks
My mountain people see flash floods running down hill. Hopefully, you do well.
Ya it happens quiet Often here as we are high up and it's very open here👍 farm life
Thinking of using footvax this year but the cost is worrying
Ya it's very expensive and you still have issue. And you still must footbath so you need to weight it all up
@@sheepshepherd if you still need to footbath then its not worth the expense. Probably just foot bath once a month and see how it goes.
@sheepdogman1 ya I agree with ya.👍
Are you all able to let the ewes graze the forests or you have to keep them out the trees? I know not alot of nutrition to be had in the forest
Watching your video reminds me of when my dad kept sheep. We’re all beef now for the past 30 years. Your landscape looks fairly familiar, where abouts in Kerry are you guys? We’re near Tralee ourselves.
We are in kilgarvan down south, ye have better land up in North kerry😂👍
Least ye had sence to get rid of them😂
We got rid of the cows
Great video again. What is the drone that you use?
Thanks DJ. It's a dji maveric drone 2, don't think they make it now. It's a few years old, are you gonna buy one?
@@sheepshepherd Yes, I've been looking at them for some time now but have yet to bite the bullet and actually purchase one.
@DJ-cw3ox ya they are a super job👍👍
May i ask how old is your father and yourself? When did mother pass also? Are you the only child? I dont think i ever heard if you have ever married my good son or is their a girlfriend? Im so so proud of what you both have achieved and how hard it is to farm sheep?
I married when i was 15 and had a baby at 16. It 6yrs. Later had a son. Will be 45 yrs. in November 27 this year. Life was not easy but we have been happy. Both of you are very proud at what you have achieved and i cant wait for what is coming next in the future. Love Sue. I live in Watertown, South Dakota ❤❤😊😊USA
My father is 74, and I am married with kids, Also my mother is alive 👍
Glad you like the videos, keep the comments coming👍👍 great for growing the channel
How much rain do you get in inches in you area? I’ve moved off the hill into town and get half the rainfall. It’s getting to be a distant memory of constant (might be a slight exaggeration) rain but it’s called the Lake District for a reason 🤷♂️
😅ya you're probably right, I dont know but all I know is we get a lot of rain. But wmya we get more here because of the mountains 👍
Pity about the trees. There nice to have around the place.
Ya there is less and less every year now with all the storms
What are Hurleys ? Logs ? Jeez gie windy right enough 😢
Very windy Indeed, hurleys are a ash stick. It's a game we play here only in Ireland, called hurling. Google it, not for the faint hearted😂👍👍
Will u and your father be doing the compulsory course for using a quad bike by November 20
What? There's a course? Never heard about this.
Glyn do you use teaser rams to help get the ewe's to start cycling or do you just use regular intact rams? 💚 🇦🇺
I just put the rams out on the 24th of October and hope for the best. Don't use teasers no. As my lambing is busy enough, and if I have bad weather spell, I won't have enough room to house them all. Is that what you do in Australia?
Nice 1 GLYN
Cheers Willie. Thanks for always commenting 👍👍
Why is there no money for wool or what went wrong
A lot cheaper to make clothes out of cheaper product now and easier
Firewood for the long winter ahead
That's for sure. Did you want a load😅
@@sheepshepherd if you can deliver please 😀😀
@sheepdogman1 looking for a man to hold the camera while I cut😂 free delivery then
Plenty of fire wood ,don't tell Emmon Ryan 😢
😂👍 haha, we won't go cold anyway this winter
Please show the building of your home.
No problem Rick, I'll update everyone on the build and bring ye on the journey,👍
Did you get to the ploughing championships?
I sure did I was there for the 3 days, really enjoyed it. We're you at it
@@sheepshepherd No iv never been over to it, would love to next year tho. Did you do a video there ?
@user-tg5ns6un5z I did but not sure will I put it up now. More enjoyed it tbh, than recording there.
@@sheepshepherd Did you see the sheep game while you were at the ploughing and I look forward to your next video never miss one
@user-tg5ns6un5z that's great you like the videos. Delighted to hear that. Ya I met him, we are food friends now going back a few years. He's a top bloke👍👍
Did ur father ever use blue stone mixed with cobalt for worms? What is dose mix?
He said the neighbour here used do it, he used cobalt that was all.
Is that what you used?
,
@@sheepshepherd have load dirty lambs in last few weeks have treated for coccidiosis, neighbor told me 6table spoons blue stone with 2litres cobalt mixed is a good wormer
@@martinconneely6953 did it work.?

@martinconneely6953 will you let me know. Very interested to see. Probably take a few days to clear up
Any full electric car or self-charging hybrid should not go through a flood
even if it's a small bit of water it will destroy the batteries in car most batteries and wiring are underneath the cars
Ya spot on, safe to say. Some people don't have a clue😅👍
Transport box of lime in field will solve feet problems
Do u reckon.. we have about 40 fields 😂😂
Get some hot air on your bale feeder
I will, will it sort it ya reckon?
@@sheepshepherd would think so. Get it pliable and once reshaped cool down with water as you have plenty 😀
@sheepdogman1 good man I'll try it out
Also I use the zinc for footbath that formaline is rank man😢😢 😂
Ya you are right. Its pure poison, zinc is good. Do you find it good. Do you hold them in it?
Really bad foot just dissolved a bit in hot water and sit the foot in it, it works well
@dagg_liam good to hear that, might try it with my own atm. It's fair sore😅🙈
You seem to get a lot off things we don't here in Tasmania did you realize this when you come to Tasmania Australia the big island have a lot like foxes and wild dogs foot rot most things that sheep get but I have noticed Tasmania is free of them things
Also all the utubers seem to have a lot of trouble with fly I think I have only heard of about five cases in my life time
Helen. Are you serious, ye don't get any of those. Well ye are so lucky, we have serious issues here all the time🙈 thanks for the comment 👍
No I wasn't really at any farm when I was there. Is there a lot of sheep in taZ?
