    The discussion toward the end regarding the limbs on the Mathews is interesting. The question of the durability of the center material seems valid. People aren't criticizing, however, they are wondering aloud. Though I agree Matt McPherson wouldn't let something go to market without absolute confidence in the duration, the questions seems valid. There are so many good bows on the market I'd feel comfortable spending my money with several bow companies. Company specific accessories...that's beginning to concern me.

    Thanks for the in-depth review. I shot the VTM 34 and the RX7 Ultra at my local shop last week. I thought my Defiant shot good until they told me to go get my bow and shoot it then shoot the new one's... wow. I can say that hoyt has never done me wrong and I would most certainly recommend their 23' flagship offerings to anyone. The RX7 Ultra seemed to draw and shoot smoother than VTM but nonetheless both are awesome.

    I literally shot The VTM & The Phase 4 back and forth for almost 3 hours yesterday. Shot 5 and 5. Took breaks. 2&2. Took breaks. Shot alternate. Took breaks. The style side of me wanted to like the Hoyt better. Their branding and marketing is nice. But the Mathews was just a better performer IMP. Everyone says the Hoyt has a smoother draw cycle but they are essentially opposites. The Hoyt takes a lot at the beginning of the draw and then smooths out. The Mathews is easier to get moving and has a bit more of a dump into the back wall. To me the biggest difference is how firm Mathews is on the back wall. The Hoyt feels like you’re fighting creep the whole time. Mathews ended up being the call for me.

    Appreciate the fact that you guys are doing decibel readings of the sound of the bow. After watching the video further, I began to wonder if the meter is not only picking up the sound of the bow going off, but the sound of the arrow hitting the target. For a legitimate reading of the bow's noise, would it be a good idea to consider having the target much farther downrange? Just my 2 cents worth.

    My 2013 compound bow (brand is irrelevant) specs are 35" ATA (my preference), 6.25" brace height, 340 fps IBO, 4.5 pounds weight. My point is specs haven't changed much. My bow is smooth to draw, has a solid back wall, stays in tune, and the shot is quiet. Despite the yearly hype, compound bows have not changed that much the past decade or so. My bow has solid limbs. I'd rather have 2 limbs instead of 8. None of these split limb bows are faster, but they sure are wider. Unless I was new archery, I would feel silly buying a new compound bow these days. It's still fun to see what's new, but I am thankful for what I already have.

    • @nevadapoole6180
      @nevadapoole6180 ปีที่แล้ว

      Specs wise your not wrong bows haven't changed, and accuracy wise and tuning wise not much either but I promise vibration, noise and overall smoothness the new Matthews beat anything you can find from that year. That being said those are more just comfort things except the noise.

    • @driftlesshunter9200
      @driftlesshunter9200 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nevadapoole6180 I bought a Mathews bow a year after they moved their factory to Sparta, Wisconsin in 1995. I shot that bow for 17 seasons & took a large number of deer with it. Each year during that time, Mathews offered something new on their SoloCam bows. By the time I was ready to buy a new bow, what made them a household name (SoloCam technology) was disappearing. I ended up going with another brand, which I am more than happy with. I prefer my current bow over the new Mathews for a number of reasons. I feel it's better built & the warranty is superior. I'm not knocking the current Mathews, but I would feel stupid buying one. If someone stole my current bow, that's a different story. If you're convinced this year's bow is the best, I'm sure next year's bow will be even better. I invested in hunting land instead of marketing hype over the years. I don't need a new bow to be an avid bowhunter, but if someone is in need of a bow I'm sure the new Mathews is an excellent choice.

    Mathews just makes the best bows. I shot them all last year and have shot most of the big names for the last 5 years before I pulled the trigger on a V3X 33. While everyone else is chasing speed Mathews is just consistent, ultra steady and dead in hand/quiet. IMO the new Phase 4 is undeniably quieter then my V3X 33 but not so much I would think of selling and swapping all my parts to the new bow. If I was gonna shoot anything besides my Mathews I'd be looking at the new flagship BEAR 33" bow... its honestly the nicest bow I've shot this year thats not made by Mathews.

    • @josephhopkins2851
      @josephhopkins2851 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It really comes down to preference honestly. What they're referring to in that context is the ability to drop the shot. With the Hoyt it has a nice little valley for you to settle into and relax, which is great for holding shots and target acquisition. The Mathews doesn't have much of a valley at all and a stiff backwall, which requires you to be more conscious of your shot and hold but it's much easier to drop the shot. Is one better than the other? Objectively no. If your fundamentals are sound you'll be just as accurate with either bow, it just comes down to preference.
      I got into the game with a Ventum Pro 33 and have shot each flagship from both companies every year since and prefer the Hoyts over the Mathews. The draw cycle is much smoother for me and I prefer the nice little valley they provide to the Matthews Lift, V3X, etc. Also, now in 2024 and after many models on the open market the switchweight limbs from Mathews have shown themselves to be vulnerable to splinter at high volume+higher draw weights, like 70+ I'd say. It's not a huge deal, but definitely not a quality control issue imo. It's a design flaw in the limbs because you can't ask the same limb that draws 45lbs to also draw 80lbs. Can't say I've had that issue at all with my Ventum Pro as I can put 1000 shots through it in a day during the offseason. I wouldn't hold that very specific, uncommon issue against the Mathews if I were choosing between them, I would simply look at the draw cycle and feel.

    People talk smack about the phase 4 being another v3x until they shoot it.
    With 30.5 draw, 75lb cams, my 33 is at 292fps with 520gr arrows. Dead quiet, completely dead in hand, smooth, accurate, great bow. Maybe it isn't as smooth as the Mathews but who cares, it's ridiculously quiet and fund to shoot

    334 ibo equivalent at 30 inches
    That cam has always produced in the lower end of the cam.

    Y’all are testing the your with a dampening stabilizer and limb savers while the Mathews is bare of the new stabilizer which is one of the things that helps it be a smoother shooting and quieter bow. If your gonna compare then you need to do it fairly

      It comes with the Hoyt… fairly? How much more can you be lol they’re shooting them as they come. Send Mathews a message and tell them you want a free stabilizer with the bow lol. Comments like this make me laugh. It’s bare vs bare in factory form come on man.

    • @houghtonic1975
      @houghtonic1975 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree regarding the stabilizer. If you are gonna shoot one with the stabilizer, then the other needs one. Or at least take the stabilizer off the Hoyt to see the comparison on sound. When I go to shoot a bow in the shop, I bring at least the front stabilizer and put it on each bow because that is at least close to how I’m gonna shoot it when I’m hunting.

    Mathews leads innovation year after year and has done so for decades. They are the ones that pioneered what a quiet vibration free bow should be. Everyone else is just trying to keep up. I mean look at the company’s that have been sued by Mathews for copyright issues. The new string dampeners on the hoyt are literally a monkey tail. Just saying. Many of the bows that are out there that are quiet vibration free and smooth are so because the bar was set by the leaders of innovation. Everyone of them looks at what Mathews is doing year after year.

      Draw cycle isn’t important at all. People just think it is. It take 2 seconds to draw a bow. Who cares if it’s “somewhat” stiff. It’s how it feels in your hand, the speed, and quietness that really matter. Draw cycle means absolutely nothing.

      I recently bought a hoyt. Been shooting them since the mid 80’s. Looking at archery elk Arizona. The bow would make a loud snap almost at full draw. Maybe every 20-30 shots. Bow shop could find nothing. Back and forth for four months. They did finally replicate the noise but had no idea what caused it. They finally took it back and I got a Matthews. Never had one before. Didn’t take long to realize it was the best tool for everything. Smooth quiet and deadly accuracy.
      Just saying. Mathews 👍👍
