    Millions of Indians love listening to this March which starts off with such a somber and emotional tone but after the first 1 minute and 40 seconds the music dramatically changes to one that gives hope and joy!

      More of a mix of Lincoln and my uncle Leonard from Philly. He can play violin, and he knows a guy who can get you a good deal on some copper wiring.

    One of the best pieces of Pyotr Illyich Tchaikovsky and one of my favorites pieces. Sublime!

    Orginal title of this masterpiece, wiritten by Tchaikovsky's hand is: "Serbo-russian march" It's written in 1876. when Serbian Principality declared war on Ottoman Empire. The first section describes the oppression of the Serbs by the Turkish. It uses two Serbian folk songs, "Sunce jarko, ne sijaš jednako" (Bright sun, you do not shine equally), "Rado ide Srbin u vojnike" (Gladly does the Serb become a soldier),[ giving way to the second section in the relative major key, which describes the Russians rallying to help the Serbs.

    Simply best! If someone feel unfavorable to Maestro's tempo, it's just a matter of taste of himself. Svetlanov usually catch authentic color and strict rendering rather than other Russian conductors.

      I would say both the tempo and the tonal emphases are correct. And the Maestro conducting style is also most economical without compromising on the essentials of the piece.

    Very slow tempi, yes, but the ending is performed as Tchaikovsky wrote it. Most conductors take the last three chords at half speed. I don't always like Svetlanov's interpretations but he's always faithful to the score. Thank you for posting :)

    For those complaining about slow tempo. Most modern day interpretations take many Romantic era pieces faster than originally intended.

      I'm not. That's why I'm here :) They rush everything in the symphony nowadays... I've just recently found Celibidache. He was very serious about not rushing complicated pieces. I love his philosophy on music Except the fact that he didn't really believe in recordings. It's a bad thing for us 20 somethings. What about us? xD He died and now all that remains are a few recordings. I love how dignified and calm the conductor is here.

    Always fun to find the best live performance of each piece. This one is a great run through. Definitely dragging slightly, but other than that they did a good job phrasing things and whatnot

  • @Scuuurbs
    @Scuuurbs 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    This one wasn't _bad_, but I also find the first section to be a tad too slow for my taste, which sits at uncomfortable odds with the rest of the piece. Especially odd at 9:12, as others have stated. Even my favorite rendition - which is faster overall - takes the time to really enjoy that moment.
    The Youth Orchestra of Caracas' performance gives me chills, it's so good.

    El nombre original de la composición es marcha serbo-rusa y
    se basa en tres canciones populares serbias. "En junio de 1876, Serbia y
    el Imperio Otomano se involucraron en la guerra serbio-turca (1876-78). Rusia
    apoyó abiertamente a Serbia. La Sociedad Musical Rusa encargó una pieza
    orquestal de Tchaikovsky para un concierto a beneficio de la Sociedad de la
    Cruz Roja y, en última instancia, en beneficio de los veteranos serbios
    heridos. Muchos rusos simpatizaron con sus compañeros eslavos y cristianos
    ortodoxos y enviaron soldados voluntarios y ayuda para asistir a Serbia.

    I have noticed that many conductors slow down when they get older. I prefer this piece played with more pace, apart from the part previously alluded to. I'm afraid the Maestro's flamboyant gesture at the end does not rescue this performance from mediocrity.

    9:12 ruined the whole thing for me. made for a sudden slow down at the part afterward that didn't need it. switch those dynamics around...

    The use of the term "slave" it means: "a person over whose life, liberty and property someone has absolute control" (cited from Funk and Wagnalls standard dictionary). And it is incorrect. The term here for this piece of music should say "Slav march" or Slavic or Slavonic and it refers to a nationality. Thanks

    Yup, the part at 9:12 is WAY to fast ... if anything I like it played EXTRA slow ... powerful chords just BLOWN thru ... I feel ridiculous faulting this Orchestra, but sheesh ...

  • @alexbishton527
    @alexbishton527 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    at 9:12 it's a little too fast. The end was perfect. I guess people have their own interpretations and every version will have its fans and detractors. That's part of the beauty of music. No two performances are identical
