Hey Kevin I’m sorry to bother you again (last time, I promise!) but I’ve noticed you said the the tattletale should be spliced into the ignition. Why couldn’t I just put an eyelet on the end of both the tattletale and the ignition and just put each one onto the resistor stud? Thank you again for your help
The tattletale can be fed from any switched ignition source. The hot side of the resistor is just fine for it. Ask all the questions you want, I am happy to answer them. Knowledge is useless if it is not shared.

Sorry to bother you but could you please tell me what the brown jumper on the alternator does? I know that your white wire is for the tattletale but I’m not sure about your jumper. Thanks very much. Your videos have been invaluable to me.
Thanks for watching. The brown jumper is the actual current required to run the regulator.
Why does the indicator light need to be incandescent? Why wouldn’t an led work? Thanks for your help!
LED will not work. They don't let enough current flow.
I was surprised that the starter switch supplies ground, wonder how long it would have taken to trouble shoot that.
It fools a lot of people.
I was hoping you had left the 6 volt battery and generator in place , and not changed the polarity from positive ground .
Sometimes after enough projects I have enough good parts to do one 6V and I do. But most of them around here end up 12.
My 8N seems to have a weak spark as I manually move points and none when i turn over by starter button. Any Ideas?
It could be so many things. A slightly weak battery, bad ignition switch, wrong resistor/resistance, a bad connection somewhere.
How to put a remote starter button on a 8n
Very dangerous. My friend did that and managed to run himself over with it.
my 9n doesnt have a starter solenoid. from what i read they didnt have them should i add them even if i have the ingnition button
You don't need to add a solenoid. 9Ns and 2Ns have a mechanical solenoid that you activate when you push the button. The 8N did away with that arrangement and replaced it with the electrical solenoid.

I have a 1949 Ford 8N that I'm having a hard time trying to find a wiring loom for my spark plug wires I'd like to know if you have any information where I might be able to find one
The metal tube? they're always missing. Watch ebay they pop up. There are no reproductions of them so you have to scrounge. Google "tractor wreckers". you'll a find a couple near you .
where can i get the quick connect for the negative terminal at ?

Could be a lot of things. A bad starter switch or solenoid or something is hooked up incorrectly..
I have a 1949 8n trying to get running to see if it will run.
Zero wiring on tractor and no starter any tricks I can use
I would say you at least need a starter. Or try pulling it to start it.

Hi Kevin,
I got the 12v conversion kit from Just8ns and it comes with the 1 wire harness. My alternator looks exactly like yours though. Do you prefer the 3 wire setup over the 1 and can I still wire mine up as a 3 wire? The terminals are there for it.
I also noticed you kept the amp meter because I was thinking about going to a volt meter instead. Whats your thoughts on that?
I also want to run a similar lighting setup to yours but with the switch that pulls out like I think you ran on the other 48 you did.

Either style alternator is fine. If you use a 1 wire its best to unhook the battery when its parked. And sometimes depending on the pulley setup the 1 wires take a good blip of the throttle to get them going. The 3 wire starts up great and has the advantage of the charge light so you don't need a gauge. As far as gauges, ammeter or voltmeter simply boils down to user preference. I've used both.
@@ClaremontClassicGarage If I decide to go 3 wire do you have a link for a diagram of your wiring? Im confused why an extra wire is needed for the electronic ignition. I have the 12v alternator kit , 12v coil, and 12v pertronix. I thought it just used the same power wire that goes on top of the coil?
@@jjay718 The wiring diagram is in the big filing cabinet between my ears lol. If you are going to run electronic ignition you need to run the second wire as it is required to run the ignition module. The wire that already goes to the coil won't work as it has the ballast resistor in it and reduces the voltage. The Ignition module needs its own full 12v feed to work. As far as the alternator wiring just google Delco 10SI wiring and you'll find a good diagram. I may know a link for a full 12v 8N diagram. I'll try to find it.

Why is the small terminal on the back side of the starter solenoid hot when you just said it is a ground wire that connects to the starter button??
The current passes thru the solenoid coil and is grounded by the button. Therefore the wire coming out of the sol is hot.

No, It gets its ground through the mounting brackets.
