I loved that the first contestant was a Gas Station Attendant. My first job was as a full-service attendant back in the 1970s in beautiful Rockford, Illinois, and it was a wonderful job to have! (I made $186.50 per week, today that is over $600!) I didn't realize just how expensive keeping your car serviced was until I got another job. Plus, my boss, David Johnson, was the most honest man I have ever known, God Bless you, Mr. Dave Johnson.

Amazing how most of the professions here involving a product are now in the domain of Chinese mass production

Obviously Frankie Laine was quite a successful and admired singer. He appeared in a Command Performance for Queen Elizabeth II in1954....he was a favourite of the Queen Mother.....celebrated vocalist.

In all the shows with Block...he never knew courtesy and restraint...

Once he did, he escorted an elderly lady to her seat. But other than that he was an ogre!

Not a gentleman. Rough upbringing apparently.
He did not know boundaries. Those aspects cost him the job on the panel.

You could tell that the panel and Daly did not like Block much either.

I’m glad they finally got rid of Hal Bloch. He interrupts too often.

Does Frankie Laine remind one of Phil Harris a little?

      Joe Postove
Only if one has consumed the same amount of alcohol that Mr. Harris did on a daily basis.

Mr Block is rather crass and sexist Can’t leave his hair alone

      Maybe he's neurotic!

I find him definitely sexist! Wonder if he makes some of the women uncomfortable. Actually I thought that might be why he left after a few years.

@@Cathy65 Mr. Block was asked to leave the show (i.e fired) for the very reason you've proffered. Numerous warnings from the producers of the show fell on deaf ears. In addition, many viewers contacted the show and its sponsors, complaining about Mr. Block's behavior.

@@Cathy65 I think so. Mr. Block was not only sexist, he was a pig that couldn't leave the female contestants alone; he was constantly hitting on them, the ogre!
