- The Proud Family is one of my favorite Disney Shows ever made. The series is well written and has some great Episodes. When the series was added to Disney+, One Fan Favorite Episode was And still is missing. Is it Banned because of a The Message of The Episode? Or is it for another reason

This Episode was finally added to Disney + in September. I have read your comments about watching the episode. I hope this video made an impact on Disney adding it back to the catalog.
Oh so that’s why I see it on my sisters account
@@superlandon14 and mine
I just saw it
I’m surprised this was banned because it taught a rare message.
Budget your money, and don’t spend more that you have.
I think that it could have banned for another reason entirely she cut up a object that talk.amd think it a bit dark when think about it
@@garyforsheejr3711 oh yeah that is a tad bit psychopathic
Though I personally think using a debit card is easier because you're using the money from your bank account and there's still a chance that you won't owe any money at the end of the month
@@tierefuerimmer9635 exactly
@@garyforsheejr3711 No, it was banned because it features a liscensed song (Independent Women), leading to some copyright issues.
i actually got to watch this episode originally. honestly it was my FAVORITE episode just because the song independent woman was in that episode. ITS A GOOD EPISODE TRUST!!
it really is a good episode
I had no idea it got banned! I remember this episode I’m shocked that it wasn’t added to Disney+
I’ve seen the original episode it was on
Of my fav
Me too
I watched it sometime in 2007-08 in Canada didn’t know it was banned
"She then cuts up the credit card as Steve Harvey screams in agony" is a combination of words I didn't expect to hear yet absolutely needed in my life.
This episode banned? Woah I'm glad I saw it on tv before it banned.
This episode was actually a good message.
Very few shows actually adress this topic.
That useing credic cards can be very very slippery, and can get you into a lot of trouble.
I still can’t believe there was a Disney Channel cartoon with a sentient credit card voiced by STEVE HARVEY.
Like, that’s too funny!
Yup, you had to be there. It's a memorable episode 😊
Another reason that this episode isn't on Disney Plus could be the racial profiling joke about being followed around by security if you're black. They're in a thrift clothing store, and Dijonay suggests they go to a better clothing store where "people follow you." Zoey, the only white girl, asks "why would they follow you?" Maybe Disney thought it was too touchy a subject to joke about?
EDIT: I now agree with MsDudette, it's definitely a copyright expiration thing. After all, another episode has a joke about calling a duck a "Quacker" and Zoey thinking the comment was directed at her, lol
It's cuz of the song license being expired. That's it. It's not that deep
@@MsDudette21 Okay, chill person.
The commenter is just theorizing.
Nah they have a episode where penny deadass goes back to a Jim crow era. The racism in that was blatant. Same with that xenophobia episode with the new Muslim family. If Disney can put that on then i think it's just the music copyright
@@MsDudette21 Calm down seriously. You don't to explode like a volcano.
rly confused with some of the replies cuz i didnt explode at all. just explained.
Always happy to see your stuff come up, dude. Never knew this show had a banned episode.
Seeing real represent real right now! Love both of your channels! Keep up the great work guys! 👍
@@BoboMcBooboy Nice! It's great to see smaller channels getting seen

I actually remember this episode I never knew it got banned. This was one of those episodes I remember because at the time from the late 90s and early 2000s there was a lot of episodes about credit card safety
This episode was great.
I always laughed my ass off when she cut it in pieces XD
I always found it a bit disturbing as a kid. Not gonna lie.
Kinda reminds me of a song.
Cut the card into pieces, with a pair of scissors.
Steve Harvey lol
@@cartooncottage2024Same.
I remember watching this episode as a kid, it had Destiny's Child playing.
That could be the reason why this episode was taken off the air.
I remember watching this episode when it was on air. That talking credit card was stuck in my deep memory for a long time and just became unearthed
You Know what, this is probably one of the most memorable episodes to me, at least the one that sticks out the most when I think about the show
I remember this episode because of how much the part where she cut up the credit card freaked me out.
I remember seeing this episode in my childhood, the steve harvey credit card scared me.
Scared the fuck outta me too lol
Yes 😭 the part when she cut him up omg
The episode is actually good. And has a good message to learn from. Guess the only reason for the ban was definitely because of the music licensing.
Yes that’s the only reason hence why a lot of other shows don’t get released on dvd
That Mustache 😂 How did I never recognize that was Steve Harvey
Its finally now on disney plus
The copyright makes sense, there's an episode of Chalkzone that one of the creators confirmed wasn't on any streaming because Nickelodeon wouldn't pay for the rights to continue using it because of the music. I can imagine Disney doing the same thing with this episode because it was too much of a hassle or too much money.
You know Nickelodeon and any other networks by Viacom are notorious for not paying any licensing fees for any of the shows.
@@firelightyear So Disney and the other networks couldn't pay for the copyright licenses because either it's too expensive, or they are just being cheap and stingy.
@@Isaac-gh5ku I just want you to be aware that Disney released “The Proud family” the complete original series on DVD just recently. And it does have the episode included and the song still plays. If Disney did not want to re-release the episode, then why did they re-released the episode with the song in there anyways? How did they got away with this, I don’t know?
I remember seeing this episode too. Didn't know it was banned.
I think the issue was the overall plot point of overspending on your parents’ credit card. Granted, the card wasn’t stolen, and the overspending was ultimately portrayed in a negative light, but in retrospect I doubt Disney wanted to put the idea in kids’ heads.
But that's already out in the ether. That's been out in the ether for all my life. It popped back up when Fortnite got big too
But it was her card, not her parents’. Also, by that logic, there are a lot of episodes of many cartoons that should be banned. I think the Destiny’s Child song is more likely to be the reason, although that doesn’t make sense either if that is the case, because they could easily change the song to allow it to be streamed.
The copyright theory actually makes sense. If you've ever heard of the show "Cold Case" then you would know that they solve cold cases from a wide variety of decades years and years ago. The episodes play music that was released around the time the cold case occurred. So with the wide variety of popular music spanning decades they ran into issues with copyright. The show is unavailable to purchase on DVD or digital because of this. As of right now the only place you can watch this show is on HBO Max.
Can somebody renew the copyright license so that Cold Case would be available on DVD, Blu-ray, and digital?
Those were my exact thoughts! I also wish to know where's the other Golden Disney shows; Brandy & Mr. Whiskers, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, Jungle Cubs etc. ???????
Just uploaded a video about The Banned Buzz Lightyear of Star Command Episode
UPDATE: it’s on Disney plus now!! Watching it now. It is no longer banned. 😊
One of my friends joked that the reason this episode was banned was it encourages being responsible with spending...which Disney dosent want kids to learn
This is a shot in the dark but SH did make a drug reference when he said he was "high" on compounded interest rates🤷🏿♂️
That's why I figured it was banned also
I remember this episode. I didn’t know it was banned.
Okay, here's my take on it. They banned it as a way to boost dvd sales. Some streaming services do this in favor of telling the customer, "the complete series dvd is required to watch the missing episodes" so there you go. The same thing was done with a show called sliders when it was on netflix.
It's definitely about the credit card having a bad influence on people's lives. This is Disney after all.
Except overspending on a credit card is a very common tv trope. There was a hannah montana ep about that too. It's not banned. The song license expired.
Do people really get bent out of shape for 30 seconds of part of a song? I was introduced to new artists and bought entire albums because I heard part of a song I really liked and wanted more. Seriously, a montage with a popular song will remind people you still exist. Lol
And speaking of Boy Meets World, THAT'S an awesome series. Too bad Girl Meets World was so terrible. :(
Still, what was the name of that song, and who sang it?
I always thought this song was made for The Proud Family but it actually exist outside of it. That was my first introduction to that catchy and memorable song.
I remember this episode!!! I didn't notice it was missing in my rewatch :O
I thought it would be the music as well but when I rewatched Lizzie McGuire I noticed all the copyright music was replaced with a generic beat . All episodes were uploaded with that change made
I'm glad I got to watch it in real time when the show was still on air ❤
I was just about to say that credit card looks like Steve Harvey lolol
I believe the real reason for the episode getting banned is because the scene at the end a silhouette of Penny cutting up the card was show and we can he the card screaming in pain while eerie music plays. I think it was too dark for children.
That’s definitely an interesting take on it! It was kinda dark
Dude it's not on disney plus cuz the music license for independent women expired.
That's a big stretch, that scene actually made me laugh when I saw it so that's not the reason.
Why would children be watching a cartoon targeted for teens? Besides there's a ton of other cartoons with darker scenes and entire episodes that remain untouched.
@@chatboulon743 exactly a *cartoon* kids will watch anything that manages to get their attention. The question is if it’s on their favorite channel which is Disney why wouldn’t they watch it?
I totally forgot about this episode couldn't think about its not on Disney plus. But im suprised they didn't banned the sissy episode when that boy called Michael a sissy. That episode was kind of graphic for little kids. I always thought proud family was lowkey a grown up cartoon although it came on Disney. Some episodes was just to graphic for little kids at the time. But back than comedy was kind of different people weren't so sensitive as they are now
fax
Oh yeah. That was the “be nice to the quiet kid episode”.
Or they just don’t put up with the bs anymore . Not about being sensitive . Some stuff was just wrong and accepted .
Really glad my family didn’t tell me to not watch certain stuff or I wouldn’t of learned how wrong some things are
@@shortycb2349 i think its both. Back then comedy was different you could say more stuff without people being so upset. Nowadays people gets mad over small stuff in comedy and go on rants
Holy cow I remember this on tv for the first time. I never realized it got banned.
I actually remember this episode 😂
Speaking about Banned Episodes, Fun fact Arthur's banned episode The Great Macgrady (Original season 13 version) was banned obviously due to Lance Armstrong's appearance, but that original version is till purchasable from PBS on TH-cam.
was that the dude who biked? because i lowkey remember seeing that episode
What’s wrong with Lance Armstrong?
it was discovered that lance Armstrong had been taking steroids to help him win his races(which is against the rules) and his name was removed from the record books and he was banned from ever competing in the Tour de France ever again
@@lilyfelicity5358 Oh wow. I never knew this. Thank you.
Bro this episode scared me so bad I was so afraid of Steve Card-vey lmao
What puts an even bigger damper on the Destiny's Child theory is that there was a Beyonce special on Disney + called "Black Is King," so clearly Disney isn't shy about working with her. Though when Steve Harvey was mentioned, I thought maybe the episode was banned because of Steve's sexist behavior towards women in real-life.
how was he sexist
That's a reach. Not to mention this was like 20 yrs ago. It's not available cuz the music license for the destiny's child song expired.
@@jordanwright2072 same. Didn’t this guy make a book called “ act like a lady think like a man” where it give women the info they need to date successfully?
@@the-nina-beans88 Not that I know of
@@the-nina-beans88 he did, it was made into a movie on Netflix too and it’s just horrible
Whoa! I used to watch it sooooo many times on Disney Channel back in the day when they would show reruns. I think it was one of my favorites when I was a kid.
It could be Steeve Harvey. If they already have to pay for destiny's child maybe there's a TM on Harvey's voice, or some type of payment (rerun/viewing fee) they don't want to pay him for his voice.
Right, the royalties
i remember watching this on demand in 2016, the little montage with independent woman was the shizzle.
They had to have signed it for approval the first time and residuals I believe get removed after so long.
Wow! An episode that teaches us about the dangers of having a credit card is banned?? Smh
I think it's unfair; i mean, the episode Spelling Bee Is available on DisneyPlus, and it has the song ABC from The Jackson 5
Goddammit! I was wondering about that for a few days now, on account of the new Proud Family series coming to Disney+. I thought it was a tiny mistake that someone made by accident, but, now, I finally the truth. WTF. They’re gonna ban one little episode for either copyright reasons and/or the theme of said episode being a bad influence for children? Ridiculous.
Guys I just want to you be aware that the episode was rereleased today on "The Proud Family" the complete series on DVD and it kept the original music from Destiny's Child.
It's still possible to view this episode via "certain" streaming websites. I actually started rewatching the Proud Family and I don't have Disney+ so I found it via other means and this credit card episode is still up! I think it might just be a copyright issue because I think that's the same problem with Daria.
I just tried to make a similar comment and it was instantly deleted.
This introduced me to Destiny Child song Independent Woman.
Damn you copyright.
Good news the proud family dvd is out now, all 52 episodes and the movie.
Bro I actually watched this on air as a kid!!!! Core memory unlocked
ITS CURRENTLY ON DISNEY+🥳🥳🥳🥳
I think it's banned because the card says he's high after Penny maxes it out. He says something like, "3.5% interest daily. Packed. I'm high."
I barely remember episodes or moments from this show yet I know I watched it A LOT
And as soon as you showed the credit card with lips it came back to me like a truck, man, the memories
I’m happy I was able to watch the episode live when it first aired… interesting how it’s gotten taken down. Keeping them credit debts up is a Business.
Theme song lead by Solange Knowles feat Destiny’s Child.
This was my favorite episode. I still don't understand.
It’s on Disney plus now. I’m watching the episode rn
Update: I'm proud to say that Don't Leave Home Without It is now on Disney+, we win!
I loved this episode! I’m sad this got banned but at the same time, I’m not too shocked.
I'm pretty sure this episode was banned because the credit card says "I'm high" while coughing when her card is declined
Hey I remember this episode. Good content. I've been looking for stuff about the gross sisters and how that's aged.
My inspiration for looking is because it seems like this show which was one of it's kind in the day when this aired. I understood it then and I was a kid kid. But what stuck out to me was how it seemed the darker the skin was, the less "attractive" and feminine the female character was drawn. That could be subjective for me. But it stuck out and now I'm curious.
The reason is because of copyright issues because independent woman by destiny’s child was playing but it’s on Disney+ now!
Bro I was thinking and wondering what the hell happened to this episode! I was just young enough to watch it
The copyright issue could very well be the issue. As far as I can remember, this show along with Lizzie Mcguire were the only two Disney shows to actually use copyrighted music. They could do what they did with Lizzie Mcguire and switch the copyrighted music out with basic music. However, I admit that the shopping spree scene wouldn't be the same without independent woman. It's nice that all the other episodes of the proud family retain their original licensed music though.
The internet says it’s because of copyright issues with the song Independent Woman 🤷🏻♂️
It's likely due to the residuals.
Disney would own the rights to the Proud Family tm theme song, but would only be able to license the song and would still be paying residuals on every play currently.
And because of the destiny child independence women song was the reason why it was banned to I heard as well they don’t want to be sued or something like that
What if Steve Harvey just a didn’t wanna be apart of that anymore?
It was a line about discrimination, people probably didn’t take it well, but in the mall scene when Penny is with her friends trying to be responsible, in a cheap clothing store, her friends want to go to the high end part of the mall so Djionay says “we going to a real store, where the employees actually follow you.” And Zoe replied in confusion “why would they follow you?”, which was clearly a stereotype for black & brown people being profiled as thieves and watched closely when they shop. I always remembered the line growing up cause it showed me Zoe, even though she had minority friends she still could benefit from “white privilege” if she really wanted to.
Funnily I remember this episode so clearly!!! The talking credit card episode xD but wow didn’t know it was banned but agree probably due to copyright music!
I don’t know why but this episode scared the hell out of me as a kid lol.
Great episode, good message, shame it's locked away. I could see the song thing being an issue, as how music royalties work are vastly different in price depending on context. The same exact song can have a huge cost difference in if it's used in a movie, or a show, or a commercial. Something like a theme song in particular probably will be relatively cheap because it will show up in literally every episode and is usually created explicitly for the show and has little value outside of it, where using a pre-existing popular song in the middle of a single episode would cost more per airing. Not to mention I don't even know how an agreement for TV syndicated airings of a show with a song translates into on-demand streaming services but I'm sure that's not fun for anyone that has to run the legal department of the huge companies involved.
I remember watching it on Disney plus, I think they removed it later on
I got to watch this originally on TV as well.
I was SO mad that I couldn’t get a credit card as a straight up child because of this episode ☠️
I remember watching this episode when I was like 11 on Disney Channel
That’s so funny Bc this is the only episode of the proud family I vividly remember
I remember this episode
They could simply replace the song.
I remember that episode the moral of it don't spend much money on credit cards.
I recorded this episode on vhs back in the day, that’s the only way I can watch it now lol
I would think that Disney basically commissioned DC to write that song, so they own the rights to the opening theme song not DC. Like you wont see that song on an album, or you wouldn't have because it was bought by disney so they own the rights to it. Im not 100% sure how music copyright works but I know with drawings if someone buys a commission usually they have full rights to do whatever they want with it depending on the contract. Some artist restrict use for like commercial use though so idk how it would go with the music business.
this was one of my fave episodes and its gone 💔
Wanna feel old? This show came out three years before I was born. I’m 17.
The theme song was WRITTEN by Disney and PERFORMED by Destiny's Child ft Solange Knowles, so it's slightly different. Independent Woman is a completely separate song from Proud Family, so the licensing agreement is a lot different but thank you for trying to explain!
So that was the name of the song? Independent Woman by Destiny's Child ft. Solangne Knowles?
Thanks for the info! 😊
@@Isaac-gh5ku No problem!
This episode came back on Disney+. I watched it. It was so good!
Me and the homies poppin' into walmart with the talking steve harvey credit card.
I remember this episode and I thought that it got banned because of the fact that Oscar was trying to kill a rat. And animal-rights conservationist maybe thought that it was animal abuse or the fact that Sugar Mama and the dog we're stuck in the house when Oscar helium up the house.
Personally, when I saw the episode on TH-cam, I thought it was banded due to well people who are from different countries use this card whenever someone marries a person from America
I got I remember watching this episode. I loved it. My sister and I both loved it.
I REMEMBER THIS EPISODE AND STEVE HARVEY WAS THE VOICE OF THE CARD 😭
just watched this episode on TH-cam. The scene with the mouse trap that is too humane stuck with me since I saw it decades ago.

It apparently been banned because there is a licenses song featured in the episode (Independent Women) that expired in 2010.
