    Test drove General and Havoc X. The General is the nicer machine as far as fit and finish goes. Stock seats in Havoc are garbage. The comparable General was about 3k more than msrp on Havoc. The Havoc blows the General away in utility. Dump bed is huge and lots of storage with the extra cab. These are sport utility machines and the General just really doesn’t fit that bill for me. I needed something that works great on the farm and trails. General definitely needs a bigger bed.
    Picked up the Havoc and couldn’t be happier. Changed out the seats and now i feel it is definitely on par with the General for comfort. If I was looking into something to be purely sport, neither of these machines would be on my radar.
    I looked at these machines unbiased and intended on buying the General. It is a very nice machine. Yes the outside panels, doors ect are higher quality than the Havoc but the Havoc is every bit of if not better built underneath the plastic. Forged engine internals, dry sump oil system. Do yourselves a favor and stop being such brand fan boys.

    Through personal experience, I own a havoc and my buddy owns the general xp. Swapping driving experience between both sxs’s (we both drove each one) and the havoc didn’t exactly destroy the general but won in every aspect besides comfort. I guess I could say that a Polaris fan boy has been converted to a textron man now. Sorry for the truth boys, sometimes truth hurts.

      creepyrs3 well, I'm no popo fanboy...never have been. But let's give some credit where it's due...polaris has a great machine in the sport/ute department. The fact that they used a base model polaris in this shootout also says something...textron needed to bias this shootout in their favor. If they were comparing apples to apples, they'd have had a havoc, a general deluxe & a defender hd10.

    Sure would have liked to see an honest comparison. Example, the towing, General has a more aggressive tire (for offroad) which means less rubber in contact with the ground, it's simple surface contact and friction that the Havoc had over the General. I do like some of the features the Havoc had, but still can't get ODES out of my mind, looks like Textron is using parts from various manufacturers, the bed and the storage behind the seats is straight from the Kawasaki. I do look forward to them being innovative and curious to see what they come up with. Keep it coming, more options for us consumers!

    I bought a 2018 Havoc X today after checking out both it and the General. As stated before the general does have better plastic and fit. All that eventually gets worn anyhow. However in the frame and suspension the Havoc is built at the level if not better the General XP. It's an absolute tank. Newer Havoc models got better seats but for the price point and machine quality you're saving 6k or more to move up in the general lineup. Get some new seats in the Havoc and you've got a better SxS.

    • @mlspowersports7436
      @mlspowersports7436  6 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      Since this question has come up a few times we will address it here. First, there is only one Havoc. Call it base, top of the line, whatever, there is only one. There are several General models, the bottom two are close to Havoc's price. Most of the distinctions among the Generals are in bolt on accessories, ie, roofs, windshields, winches, painted body panels, and aluminum rims. They all have the same engine and powertrain. All General models also have the same size tires, so the ground clearance comparison wouldn't change. All Generals have the same cargo capacity and payload, so again, no change. The absolute top of the line General has Fox shocks which do likely compare better to the Havoc's Kings, but that model is more than $3000 more at MSRP. With a price difference that dramatic we would likely have added a column for "Price" where Havoc would have won by a mile. Additionally, General won for low speed ride quality with the base shocks, so the only place the Fox's may have mattered is high speed handling, and they may have actually hurt the low speed rating, depending on spring rate and damping. That same General model (Deluxe) also has a considerably heavier tire/wheel package than the base model we used, so the drag race results would likely have been even more dramatic in Havoc's favor. Had we awarded the Havoc points for its standard winch, it would be fair to cry foul, but we didn't. So all things considered we think it was as fair as it could have been without a huge price discrepancy, and even with it, the final result would likely have been the same.

    Lots of contention regarding this video; wow. I think both sides of the argument have valid points. I agree with MLS' decision to base this comparison on price point. This was a deciding factor for me when I purchased my Havoc X. I wanted the hp, suspension, and LED lights, but didn't want to pay $20K + for the General. It surely is a fair comparison of what one can get for $17K, so the suspension test is fair IMO. I paid $16K for Havoc, and it's a great machine. I also agree that the tires, weight and gearing played a factor in the tow test. The tires are really the only thing that could invalidate the test since lower gearing and weight are machine attributes that make it inherently better for towing. I also own a new 2018 Rzr XP 1000 and low gear is much higher than low in the Havoc; I'm not sure if the General has the same gearing or not. As far as everyone saying their General will own the Havoc, that's just not going to be the case. The XP 1000 won't own the Havoc. The suspension on the Havoc is MUCH better than the Walker Evans suspension on my Rzr. The Havoc is much more composed at high speed on choppy/rocky trails and doesn't bottom as easily. As far as build quality, the Havoc is better. It may not look as cool, but it doesn't rattle and squeak nearly as much as the Rzr and feels more solid. The seating position in the Havoc is poor, but it's not a show stopper. I'm 6', 240 and have no issues riding all day. The Rzr is definitely more comfortable. The Havoc crawls and paws amazingly well. The Rzr is MUCH easier to work on. The Havoc throttle response and power delivery is tons of fun and more aggressive than the Rzr. Even being more aggressive, the Havoc throttle is damped better if you in rough terrain. Each unit has it's pros and cons, but both are really fun and capable. I have about 250 miles on the Havoc and 150 on the Rzr in rocks, mud, water, and hard pack (PA and VA trails). So, if I had to choose a unit for a weekend of fun in the woods, I'd choose the Rzr due to comfort, but that's it. My wife prefers to ride in the Havoc. Of course, if I have work to do around the house, the Havoc is the choice. This is why I originally purchased the Havoc; I wanted something to work around the house with, but still have fun. Turns out there's been a lot more fun with the Havoc than work. As far as corporate stability and backing, Textron is a $14B business and Polaris is $3B. I got a 2 yr factory warranty with my Havoc compared to 6 mo on the Rzr.

    I saw your comment below and understand about the price point, but is there any chance you guys could do a similar video using the Deluxe General? I'm curious about the Fox shocks ride vs the Kings. I'm researching both of these and may purchase one of them next year. I liked the side by side comparison of the suspension and thought the rest of the video was pretty good also. I did build a Havoc on the website and man, you can load one up really nice for the price of a General Deluxe.

    • @foxracing16
      @foxracing16 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The base general did have a nice low speed ride quality. From my experience with suspension i would imagine the FOX QS3 that comes on the deluxe will ride better the the base model shocks at high speed but worse at low speed, so you lose and gain with either.

    • @damon20r
      @damon20r 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's more to do with the fact that the large logs are spaced exactly where the front and back tire have to climb at the same time on the Polaris and the Textron has different wheelbase so one set of tires can pull or push the other set over the log. Not that I am defending Polaris but that I would never buy anything from a place that would create a very obviously biased video like this one.

      B Breckner Not to mention with the General they stopped when the log got the rear wheels except for the last try when they hit it at speed. Had they hit the logs the same way they did with the Havoc the General would've easily cleared. & had they stopped the Havoc like the General it likely wouldn't have made it either... That part made the video seem a bit biased imo. They are both very nice machines but the Havoc is ugly imo (especially with that bright green paint). If they would make the Havoc interior much nicer & user friendly like the General I think they would have a definite winner. The best thing about the Havoc is the King shocks imo...

    I own Arctic Cat Snowmobiles and Polaris 4 wheelers so I'm torn between these 2! IMO, I think Polaris has better ATV's then AC/Textron (comparing older models), but with Textron taking over I think the ATV side will greatly improve, people just need to be patient! I think Arctic Cat still has the best Snowmobiles, sorry Polaris. With that being said, their are many dealerships out there that sell both and a lot of the times they have a testing area to drive demos. I myself, have 3 such dealerships and will test both! I did just recently sit in the new Havoc and in person this is a very nice UTV! My only complaint vs the General is the seats! General seemed to have better seats? It's been awhile since I sat in a General(they didn't have one to sit in side x side for comparison). What is the HP/torque on this Havoc? I Know the General is at 100 HP. Great video BTW, the only test I question is the towing of the Truck up the hill?? It would be too easy for the driver of the truck to apply the brakes to stop the Polaris?? Just sayin' I hope the Textron Havoc sells well! Good luck!

Grew up in a Polaris family and that what I’ve always road but I started doing my research a few months back when I went to buy a side by side and the stampede hit everything I was looking for at a great price point.. much sportier and nimbler on the trails then a ranger and still had all the utility functions.. loads of power and handles great.. only thing I don’t like so far is the speed governor tops you out at 61... you get there in a hurry and can tell there’s tons more power available.. don’t need it all the time but for the money I spent I want access to all the power that motors got to give.. overall great buy tho and would make the same decision again

    • @HesterEdition
      @HesterEdition 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is true, Polaris will shove product down a dealers throat, so forcing some dealers to heavy discount to maintain inventory levels, Polaris is more common and that give way for more competitive pricing. But there are a lot of people out there that won't touch a Polaris, sometimes people like something different. I am not a dealer for either one, but I like to keep up with all products out there, and these are things I have seen in the industry. I have no opinion one way or the other on either, I have not seen a Havoc in person of drove in one, but I do work on and sell (used) Polaris's, and when you have heavy competitive pricing between dealers, resale values suffer too, as an idea we just got in a 2017 General on trade and it's well equipped and with just over 200 miles and extended warranty, it's going to go for under 13k out the door. Now different areas values will change. I know Textron was artic cat, but the Havoc is new and unproven as the General is, and Polaris shoves there name down your throat in advertising so they are very popular. Give it a year or so to get out and see how it does then we can see how it stands up.

    • @WooleySwampAdventures

      I like different bikes even more than most. We got into selling Redcats years ago (when China bikes really left much to be desired) as it was the only way we could outfit our kids (large family) with bikes. This continued into the Tank years and through the China metamorphosis into usable alternatives. Still sell Linhai and believe they have a place in the inexpensive market. Havoc vs General just isn't apples to apples, at least not yet.

      Sorry the truth hurts, MSRP plus Trans plus setup plus dealer fees. Was quoted 21k, no shame, it's just another wanna be with no resale value. It kinda gets next to you when someone is saying what they have is much better than what you went in debt to get. Truth is we may never know the truth. I research and then I buy. And if I’m happy with it your opinion is a waste of breath. An opinion is just someone’s thoughts on a particular subject and in no means the truth. Buy what you want and get ready because someone is going to say it’s junk. Kinda funny don’t you think. Not a Polaris guy but I did see some of the untruths in this video. Pulling the truck was the most obvious should have been done with the same tires on both. That worries me a little. Are they that dumb to not figure that out or do they think we are that dumb. Maybe they need to do some research before their next advertisement. Me I own a Honda pioneer 1000 5 deluxe. They have a long line of haters. But it puts a smile on my face every time I open my shed door.

    And don't set up the logs to specifically to have the General's front and back tires hit the two humps simultaneously, while the Havoc's longer wheelbase doesn't. The converse would be true with a different log setup which would do the same to the Havoc with converse results. Very disingenuous video. Might want to slow down the videography in the beginning to see the aesthetics clearly. Video makes the Havoc look like just another wanna' be. General's stock ground clearance is 12", yup a full 12 ", again disingenuous. There is really no comparison, but nice try.

      Wooley Swamp Adventures notice how they also chose to use a base model general with garbage tires and a very basic shock setup. No doubt in my mind that the preload/ride height was set at the lowest setting. Then again, all of the brands bias their head to head shootouts.

    I like the looks, love the color. Would really like to demo one.
    Textron may have a really good product here, but their problem is going to be whether people are going to give them a chance or not. It might kind of suck for Textron at first but they really need to give out lots of demo rides and maybe even give away a few to certain parts of the country to get people's reviews and thoughts on the machine. It can't be the company and dealers themselves doing the reviews and the videos, it needs to be from customers that can be honest.
    Let me have one for half price or something and I'll give you all kinds of videos and personal reviews.
    And if there's any design issues Textron needs to be willing to get the problem fixed and resolved in a timely fashion.
    The bottom A-Arms should have been arched, and the axles looks small from the video, they're likely going to be a problem. It was first advertised with 110 horsepower, they should have came with a 110 if not a 120 horsepower. Textron needs to not be comparable to the competition but blow them away. There's a lot of people that buy Utility side by sides because of the three seat option, I would much prefer this machine with three seats and I think it would be easy for them to make that adjustment. They should make it an either or option.

    • @ROTAXD
      @ROTAXD 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Curtis Bull the thing is...textron is clearly not going after the pure utility market. They're aiming for the crossover sport/ute niche market that the general is (almost) filling. I really don't think these machines would last in the farming or pure sport markets. Furthermore...the abject failure that is the wildcat will go a long way towards why people don't want to give textron a chance. Same thing with a/c's "kymco cat" atv's.

      @foxracing16 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They compared the General that had the closest price point which is a very valid argument. You cannot compare 2 exact vehicles. Do you want to compare it on best suspension offered? best tires offered? Then forget about the extra $3200 in price? Might as well throw in a rzr turbo its only 4500 more lol The point is, the test was done with, "What can i buy for $17,000"

    • @ROTAXD
      @ROTAXD 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      foxracing16 if people are looking at sxs price very rarely determines what they wind up purchasing. The price point bs is a snakeoil salesmansbway of comparing apples to oranges. Like comparing a base model 1/2 ton dodge to a ford raptor and claiming the price point is what makes it a more capable off road rig. If price point were the determining factor you'd see those rattle trap wildcats all over the place and can am would have never sold a single x3.
