@@Nesuniken yeah, I have no clue how that could be used to prove that number is a prime... RH is used to estimate the prime counting function, and if it is correct it can predict only the first half digits of the number of primes within a certain range.

Quora is a great way to learn lots of information, just never the information you specifically asked for. I used to be a part of (and still browse) the Star Wars boards, and it generally goes like this: 1) Someone asks a question such as "What colour is Luke Skywalker's lightsabre?" 2) Someone else responds with 16 million paragraphs, giving an entirely canon-accurate summary of the Yuuzhan-Vong war. Included are several insightful parts about the characters and events that give even the lifelong fans new angles to look at. 3) You get to the end, and after digesting all this, realise they never even brought up Luke's lightsabre colour in passing.

This reminds me of the days on Yahoo Answers. There was a user that browsed the Astronomy/Science side of it and everytime I asked a question pertaining to Oklahoma (where I lived) she would rage that I was trying to get her attention/was stalking her. After that I'd find out how to include Oklahoma in every post I made.
It’s kinda crazy looking at that question on Quora. There are so many replies from people who claim to have a BS, a master’s, or even a PhD in math who somehow do not see he’s talking about a proof by contradiction.
I mean, if that was his intended meaning, he could have said something like "I can prove that, if RH is true, then there exists a composite number that is prime" (or something like that) (from which it would follow that RH is false, since a prime number cannot be composite).

At some point I made a Quora account and started getting emails from them, and they are the most completely unhinged things I see regularly. Just a mix of bizarre questions and some just incredibly intense and tragic stories people are apparently posting out of nowhere.

I don't know if this has been said, but it was probably a proof by contradiction. 1705542 is very obviously not prime, but he is saying he has a proof where assuming the Riemann hypothesis is true then 1705542 is prime which is a contradiction which means the Riemann hypothesis would be false (obvious over simplification).
I think its completely wrong either way. The Riemann hypothesis doesn't assert that all numbers that fall along the line are prime numbers. It just says that all prime numbers are on the line. It would make sense that Dana would assume he is trying to say that 1705542 is truly prime, because to attempt to disprove the hypothesis by contradiction, in this manner, is to fundamentally misunderstand the question.

I actually think they missed the point. OP is saying they found a flaw in the Reimann hypothesis and can prove that an obviously not prime number is prime. This implies that OP was able to use the Reimann hypothesis to prove a number (in this case 1705542) was prime even though we know it's not prime because it's even, which would therefore disprove the Reimann hypothesis with a counterexample. I don't know the math too well behind the theory, but reading up on it, it seems to be a nearly 200 year old theory that nobody has been able to prove or disprove, so OP could theoretically actually be on the verge of a huge mathematical breakthrough and the responder is calling him an idiot.
Guys, please, cut them some slack, The way I've interpreted this question is as them believing to have found a proof that 1705542 is prime, assuming the Riemann Hypothesis is true. This is clearly not the case, so we reach a contradiction. Now, (assuming consistency of mathematics) this must mean our assumption is wrong, and therefore it would follow the Riemanian Hypothesis is false. Note: According to the principle of explosion, assuming a false statement to be true, allows us to prove anything. Therefore, if the Riemann Hypothesis is false, it would certainly be possible to show 1705542 is prime assuming the hypothesis to be true. Moreover, this is not as far-fetched as invoking the principle of explosion, since there is a deep connection between the Riemann Hypothesis and counting prime numbers, so it is not inconceivable that a supposed contradiction following the Reimann Hypothesis, if false, would be found studying the primality of some numbers, although I do agree this is extremely improbable as it stands.

I was mensa while I was in uni since they offered grants, and the actual gatherings are pretty much like this half the time. The social groups/events a lot of autists who think they're better than everyone and actively avoid others who aren't mensa. Quite nuts. I remember a girl talking about how she dumped her bf cuz he didn't make it "this year", and the other's just accepted that as normal behavior and were gossiping about so called signs of lower intelligence he may have exuded before. The people who aren't like that usually just don't go to the social events so... that leaves an interesting selection of people that actually show up to those gatherings. The whole thing is only good for yoinking a few business connections.

Despite this being humorous, a lot of threads in Quora are like this. You post a question about a coin you found on the ground and some guy who claims to have a Ph.D in coinology points out the stupidity of your question without giving any answer related to your question.
Worst part of quora is their complete inability to understand hypotheticals. One question I had was "If dragons were real, what sort of weaknesses would they have?", Which was apparently the wrong thing to ask given the number of "Actually, dragons aren't real!" And "It's your fantasy, make it whatever you want". I never did get an answer to my question. (I have no had plenty of answers, thank you everyone, but it has been a few years since I originally had the question!)
It really depends on the nature of the dragon. Technically speaking, even Superman can be real (physics-wise). But Superman, Plutonian and Homelander all work ENTIRELY DIFFERENTLY physics wise, despite having similar powers. It is a question of underlying physics. Example: A dragon breaking fire due to secreting a flammable compound, that, when exposed to air and ignition can work as a flamethrower….. OR a Dagon that does Godzilla-like nuclear blast. Both “breathe fire”, but the extent and limitations of either are entirely different. So, it depends on how you construct the underlying physics of said dragon - that part is true In this example, if you do the former, creating vacuum or a powerful wind-blower would be super useful to combat them. Likewise, their skin would just be normal lizard skin, that is all. But if dragon shares physics with Godzilla, there are no weaknesses. Just death. By definition it can cause nuclear fusion AND it’s body can take nuclear fission without turning to dust. There is no weapon on Earth that can surpass it. And it does not need air or water or to breathe or to work normally.

SO many questions on basically any platform are like this. The more I see these threads get longer the more I often see OP's question would be worded a bit weirdly or they just were bad at giving initial details. It just sucks that the insults almost always come first.
As another comment was saying, it still does not make sense as the RH just states that all prime numbers must fall on the line, but not that all numbers on the line must be prime numbers. And if he then proves the number is on the line even though it isn’t a prime, then he has in fact proven nothing.

The riehmans hypothesis is an observation of continuance vs cyclical numerals in computation. Weird patterns exist and are pointed out in the Riehmans function as we repeat numerals 0-9 every digit.

Relatively unrelated, I remember looking for the prime factors of this huge 5 digit number. After reaching my breaking point, I gave up, looked up 3 videos on how to code in java and wrote a program to find the prime factors of a number Fun fact: that number was a prime number.

Quora is a great way to learn lots of information, just never the information you specifically asked for. I used to be a part of (and still browse) the Star Wars boards, and it generally goes like this:
1) Someone asks a question such as "What colour is Luke Skywalker's lightsabre?"
2) Someone else responds with 16 million paragraphs, giving an entirely canon-accurate summary of the Yuuzhan-Vong war. Included are several insightful parts about the characters and events that give even the lifelong fans new angles to look at.
3) You get to the end, and after digesting all this, realise they never even brought up Luke's lightsabre colour in passing.

I don't know if this has been said, but it was probably a proof by contradiction. 1705542 is very obviously not prime, but he is saying he has a proof where assuming the Riemann hypothesis is true then 1705542 is prime which is a contradiction which means the Riemann hypothesis would be false (obvious over simplification).
I think its completely wrong either way. The Riemann hypothesis doesn't assert that all numbers that fall along the line are prime numbers. It just says that all prime numbers are on the line. It would make sense that Dana would assume he is trying to say that 1705542 is truly prime, because to attempt to disprove the hypothesis by contradiction, in this manner, is to fundamentally misunderstand the question.

I actually think they missed the point. OP is saying they found a flaw in the Reimann hypothesis and can prove that an obviously not prime number is prime. This implies that OP was able to use the Reimann hypothesis to prove a number (in this case 1705542) was prime even though we know it's not prime because it's even, which would therefore disprove the Reimann hypothesis with a counterexample. I don't know the math too well behind the theory, but reading up on it, it seems to be a nearly 200 year old theory that nobody has been able to prove or disprove, so OP could theoretically actually be on the verge of a huge mathematical breakthrough and the responder is calling him an idiot.

The way I've interpreted this question is as them believing to have found a proof that 1705542 is prime, assuming the Riemann Hypothesis is true. This is clearly not the case, so we reach a contradiction. Now, (assuming consistency of mathematics) this must mean our assumption is wrong, and therefore it would follow the Riemanian Hypothesis is false.
Note: According to the principle of explosion, assuming a false statement to be true, allows us to prove anything. Therefore, if the Riemann Hypothesis is false, it would certainly be possible to show 1705542 is prime assuming the hypothesis to be true.
Moreover, this is not as far-fetched as invoking the principle of explosion, since there is a deep connection between the Riemann Hypothesis and counting prime numbers, so it is not inconceivable that a supposed contradiction following the Reimann Hypothesis, if false, would be found studying the primality of some numbers, although I do agree this is extremely improbable as it stands.

I was mensa while I was in uni since they offered grants, and the actual gatherings are pretty much like this half the time. The social groups/events a lot of autists who think they're better than everyone and actively avoid others who aren't mensa. Quite nuts. I remember a girl talking about how she dumped her bf cuz he didn't make it "this year", and the other's just accepted that as normal behavior and were gossiping about so called signs of lower intelligence he may have exuded before.

It really depends on the nature of the dragon.
Technically speaking, even Superman can be real (physics-wise).
But Superman, Plutonian and Homelander all work ENTIRELY DIFFERENTLY physics wise, despite having similar powers.
It is a question of underlying physics.
Example:
A dragon breaking fire due to secreting a flammable compound, that, when exposed to air and ignition can work as a flamethrower…..
OR a Dagon that does Godzilla-like nuclear blast.
Both “breathe fire”, but the extent and limitations of either are entirely different.
So, it depends on how you construct the underlying physics of said dragon - that part is true
In this example, if you do the former, creating vacuum or a powerful wind-blower would be super useful to combat them. Likewise, their skin would just be normal lizard skin, that is all.
But if dragon shares physics with Godzilla, there are no weaknesses. Just death. By definition it can cause nuclear fusion AND it’s body can take nuclear fission without turning to dust. There is no weapon on Earth that can surpass it. And it does not need air or water or to breathe or to work normally.

i love this, though in fairness i think the op was saying they used the RH to prove that number is a prime number, when its obviously not, therefor disproving the RH. i feel like they were just using the harmonics and didnt use enough zeroes though.
SO many questions on basically any platform are like this. The more I see these threads get longer the more I often see OP's question would be worded a bit weirdly or they just were bad at giving initial details. It just sucks that the insults almost always come first.

As another comment was saying, it still does not make sense as the RH just states that all prime numbers must fall on the line, but not that all numbers on the line must be prime numbers. And if he then proves the number is on the line even though it isn’t a prime, then he has in fact proven nothing.

The riehmans hypothesis is an observation of continuance vs cyclical numerals in computation. Weird patterns exist and are pointed out in the Riehmans function as we repeat numerals 0-9 every digit.

The issue is with the Riemann Hypothesis, not whether or not it's a prime number (clearly it's not). It's like the smoke alarm not going off despite you burning to death.

The funny thing was that they weren't saying that 1705542 is prime, but that the Riemann hypothesis (allegedly) return a false positive when you use it to see if it's prime
...Is there a way to test for primeness with RH? My understanding was it only restricts the error bound on the prime number theorem. I only took undergrad level math though.
