My god, how does one describe this most brilliant track written by Steely Dan. It's like a combination of jazz, reggae, funk, and rock all in one danceable and/or listenable package. Love it!
I was only ten when this gem came out. I was extremely naive for ten years old, but i knew the very first time i heard this song, it was something incredibly special and well crafted. Nothing on the waves, then and even now. Thank you Don & Rest in Peace Walt.
Chuck Rainey, bass player extraordinaire was given a lot of the bass lines by Becker, RIP Walter, Steely can be no more without you, wonderful solo you did on this track, it will live forever.
Aja, the album was and is the jewel in Steely Dan's crown. From it, the singles: Peg, Deacon Blues, and this stunning track, Josie. Dan's genius of uncompromising perfection on this timeless masterpiece is on another level. Essential listening, from 1977.
Great song, love Peg too! Every song on this album is Gold, even tunes like I got the news. I've said it before and I will say it again "If you got to grow up in the 50's through the 80's YOU were blessed!"
Fantastic group! I've been listening to their stuff since I was in preschool in the early '70s("Do It Again" - 1972). Their late' 70s stuff was Steely Dan's best, I think! 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸 🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵 🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤 📻📻📻📻📻 😁😁😁😁😁
Underrated by whom? The entire industry has praised these guys. Just because you’ve only just discovered them, doesn’t mean nobody else knows who they are. Commercial giants. Critically renowned giants. Other artist have been emulating them (unsuccessfully) for decades. Did you grow up in a cave?
@DjDiscocat, this great tune has to be like late 70s. I remember Steely Dan. He put out a lot of good songs. Thanks for taking me back some, this is Chuy Sneeks signing out for now from Temple City at my Grandsons, adjacent to my City with a Mission San Gabriel aka SG with respect
Josie, I've two questions to ask (assuming she 's alive).....'Are you still a livewire?'--and--'What did you do to put Walter and Don in a good mood?' MERCY! Good groove.
DJ DC, your mixes just prove to me that too many artists and record labels were being short-sighted about the commercial AND artistic benefits of the "Disco Mix"...
How many breaks on pool table listening to Steely , who knows ? But with some hydro , booze , etc the 80s decade went by very nicely in and out of seedy and fine billiard halls .
I believe there is a spot for your on the next Steely Dan tour my friend! Would love to hear your art at work with 'PhingerPrint Fyle' by Le' Stones... since the tempo of its magic has been ruined, only someone of your talent could fix this tragedy as well understand my plea! Biggest hit at parties you are DJDiscoCat!
Most disappointed with this! Just short of 9 minutes??? Surely double that would have been a minimum. I suppose you could play it in an unending loop. Thanks DJDiscoCat
Been listening to the Dan since 1975. Played ‘Josie’ too many times to count. I like this reworked version, especially bringing the bass line more to the front of the melody. Good job, Disco Cat!

Man, I was the exact same age as you and was blown away by everything Steely Dan did back then
Chuck Rainey, bass player extraordinaire was given a lot of the bass lines by Becker, RIP Walter, Steely can be no more without you, wonderful solo you did on this track, it will live forever.
She's the pride of the neighborhood!

I don't understand why more people don't mention I Got The News when they talk about Aja. It's the joint of the album IMO.
The Aja album is about as close to perfection as mere mortals can produce.
walter your still alive in my heart and ears
Tank you very much for sharing great disco music merci beaucoup

I listen to Steely Dan almost everyday for ALOT of years

Sheer artistry what you do. Brilliance that is sheer bliss.
No words for it except thank you :) Their stuff is timeless but you've added to the art form . . .
In my area of Upstate New York,, ALL of the singles from AJA got radioplay at least up until GAUCHO came out. It was, and remains, unstoppable.
Just great!!

Meh ... not really. So used to the original I just can't. It's hard to do it with the Dan. lol
