I was 15 years old when this beautiful song played on Chicago WXRT-FM. I was already a Steely Dan fan but the production of 'FM' was so cool, tight, and crisp and stood out amongst the more top 40 content at the time. Koss over the ear headphones and dreams is all I needed to imagine what the future held in-store. I may sound like an old man by saying this but it must be said: there are 'performers' BUT there are 'artists' (a distinction with a huge difference). We need to foster/support the next generations of Walter Becker and Donald Fagens with freedom and opportunity not to conform.
You are spot on. I would hear this on KZOK (Seattle) way, way back in the day and it was simply a feeling of ease, a little smile and a bit of body sway. I am older now and songs like this make me nostalgic for those days.
I'm 72 years old. I remember Steely Dan but I was not all that into them in 1978. I didn't dislike them I was just indifferent. But now in 2024 I'm a big fan. I know they were originally from the east coast but their music was just so west coast. I lived on the coast then. I listen to this song and I'm driving in the sunsetting while cruising along the 405 once more. The fog coming, etc love it,
Brilliant music gets better with age ! There's your answer ! In 2024 , it's all about music industry moguls making money & not necessarily in a good way !
Ok... enough DJDISCOCAT, I love your mixes. You always focus on the music (tempo). This is another one my favorite Steely Dan songs. Once again you created a masterpiece. 👍
No static at all when you listen to FM as reworked by the DJ of DJs known as DiscoCat. Walter Becker is smiling down from Heaven and Donald Fagen would be proud.
The farther we get from the prime years of Steely Dan, the greater their legendary status becomes. What genius, what swing, even the deliberately arcane lyrics make more sense now. And I remember Rosie Vela fondly. She and Jeff Lynne had a pied-à-terre in downtown NYC in the early 2000s, a couple of blocks from where I lived at the time.
Um, um, um, you've done it yet again. This is incredible. You already know how much I love Steely Dan / Donald Fagen and every last track made. You just made this one a whole lot better. ❤️Kudos!
The crazy thing is I loved all these tunes like it was a sound in my life. Took it like was just there. Being told it was studio musicians didn't even click. Just all the songs playing and a natural love of of something that was deeper than I knew .The room at the top of the stair was Just there. So deep and in my heart 💓 thank you
Heard this so much on the radio, I though it was from the early 1970s...Great Sax here. I'll be adding it to my Purrfection playlist. Amazing you can take a 4 minute 50 seconds song and craft it into 11.5 minutes!
I remember seeing this movie when I I was kid. I bought the soundtrack and I played it like crazy. I lost it years ago. Anyway, thank you for this wonderful remix. Perfection. Sounds like summer.
great idea to mix the jam in 3-4 times. I can actually play this song well on the keys and just want to keep coming back to that earworm over and over. Timing and chords are sublime.
Super well done my friend, this song is absolutely supernatural and even more so now of this extended version. As I said with AJA "Who said one can't perfect one's own perfection?"
This is amazing Jazz / Rock. It will have come out of a jam session, no doubt! 2x men and a load of the best session musicians - all working in perfect harmony. Typical SD lyrics! Sax is sublime! So's keys ... and guitar ... well the whole thing actually! Play it while you have dinner together ..... then go to bed!
Omg thank you so much for sharing this on TH-cam. This song is so great. I love the long version of it so much. Thanks for sharing this with TH-cam.Philip🥰🤩😍
I love this song and I couldn’t go see them tonight w The Eagles, couldn’t afford the high ticket prices, however I’m sure it was a Fantastic Show with music like this ya can’t go wrong EVER & both bands have a outstanding list of hits that still hold up in 2024 as did in the 70s & 80s - just absolutely outstanding!!❤
The sax does it for me - every time - drifting over the NYC skyline late at night. This one goes out to my old pals at WMMS (Cleveland, OH). They were some days and nights, eh?
I love your mixes man…it’s great to hear parts that other mixes don’t feature….always a fan of extended mixes and yours are first class!!! Thank you! 🎸🎸🎸
Excellent Remix of an excellent Classic. Very smooth and sets the mood perfectly. Thank you so much for your great work. I can't wait for tomorrow morning to play this on my high tech car stereo.😎
Most underated band ever, especially in the United kingdom where they never get any air time on rubbish radio stations. In my home they are on all the time,Awesome band ❤
9am on a Wed morning and I have this playing while I get some work done :-) I remember the Movie but this was one of the first pieced I taped from radio as a kid and I played it to death until I bought the soundtrack album a few years later. Your versions of these classics though? Man they are next level! Love em all the way down in Aus.
Great, great song from the spring of my senior year in High School. Interestingly enough, growing up in rural Nebraska, AM radio was about all I had to listen to at that time. Not till I left for college the following fall did I have many FM listening opportunities. 59 WOW/Omaha was the AM station of choice for Top 40 and you could pick it up 250 miles away during the daytime. They edited this song (as ther AM's may have), to remove the lyric "FM" and replace it with the instrumental backing from the flipside. Song was always introduced on that station simply as "No Static At All". Great record with or without "FM"!
WHAT A WONDERFULL ERA!!! WHEN THE MUSIC WAS THE STAR OF THE FILMS!!!!...1977 TO 1980 : THE STUD, CAR WASH, SNF, TGIF, GREASE, FM, ROLLER BOOGIE, NOCTURNA, HEAVY METAL, FOXES, TIMES SQUARE, URBAN COWBOY.. .....
I've been waiting for you to do this song!! Thank you for an awesome mix!! This was the first song I ever played on my first record player! Had the 45.📻
One of the coolest songs of all time. Scientifically proven to make you 7% cooler just for listening to it!

This is one amazing jam. Steely Dan outdid themselves here.

Truth!
So true. I listened to WLS-Chicago in the 70s to early 80s. What a fantastic soundtrack to my life.

I love XRT!! Listened constantly when I lived in Naperville in the 90s. 😎🤘🏼
Fm the movie is great, Tom Selleck is the pizza delivery boy, in the beginning of the movie, 30 seconds.
Jeff Pocaro, forever a legend RIP

That is the beauty of getting older and still enjoy old tracks which did not impress you at the time. Same for me with many artists.
I remember when FM was mind-blowing technology
Quadrophonic! 😮
Ok... enough DJDISCOCAT, I love your mixes. You always focus on the music (tempo). This is another one my favorite Steely Dan songs. Once again you created a masterpiece. 👍
Agree 1000%!
Nice steely Dan song.
Written and recorded in two days, made the top 40. Impressive.

It’s brilliant. From the golden age of FM radio. Less talk, more rock.
This album among others really changed the way I listened to music post-disco. I really really love this song.

Exactly, One year ago today, you uploaded this GEM. Thank you for bringing out the Beauty of the Music of Steely Dan.
It never gets old. In light of recent events here in America, I would like to turn the clock back to 1978 before we took the wrong fork in the road.
“We”?🤔

A song that brings back those nights in the 1970s where you would listen to full albums being played by a DJ higher than a kite.
Love the song and great job doing the mix. The sound is outstanding!!
