Your work is adorable. I love them. A hint you may not know...if you stretch a sturdy rubber band across your glaze container from top to bottom you will be able to wipe your brush directly into the container. Keeping drips off the edges. Thanks for a great vid!
Another cheaper alternative is rustoleum ultimate polyurethane. It's in a small can just like the varathane, same 8 ounces and it's also water based. I got mine at ac moore, the original price was 9.99 but i used a 55% off coupon and got it for 4.50. Thanks for review and your earrings are so awesome!
How does it smell, because I use resin ,epoxy,uv and unfortunately my first time was polyurethane resin which is in a big tin can and comes with a little bottle of hardener now let me tell you that #1gave everyone around a headache even though I did it outside #2i had no idea because it didn't say that if you use styrofoam cups to mix you'll find out it will start getting hot fast and eating the cup so I was thinking that this (I just noticed the no oder so that might take away the headache) so maybe it will be a good glaze to use but I'd definitely ask questions first
I like varathane but i notice polymer clayers never warn each other about it's toxicity.... It's not perfectly safe you have to use a painter's respirator and varnish in a ventilated room or outside. It does have warnings and kids especially should know.
You can also keep your brushes clean by having 2 small buckets, 1 with soapy water, and the other with just water. Place the brush when you're done with it in the soapy water, then with a gloved hand move the brittles around to work the soap in, then place it in the water bucket and swish it around and then rinse it out under running water (under a tap that don't get much traffic like avoid the kitchen sink, a basement sink or outdoor tap would be better).
Very useful video. I managed to get some Varathane (am in the UK), was quite pricey. I really like it, it turns out nice and shiny, but am just wondering how you manage to avoid brush streaks on flat pieces. I've tried several really thin coats but I'm still getting fine brush strokes. Loved the video .... and the Storm Troopers!! 🤗😊
I do realize this is a old video but what glue do you use on your clay jewelry? And this cleans up with soap and water or paint thinner? thank you, Debs from Texas
Hello! I've checked out a few videos on glazes now but yours was definitely the most helpful. I had a question about the glaze you use though! From what I can tell it looks a little shiny, but would you say its super glossy? I'm looking for a bit more of a matte finish (a bit of shine is okay!) but for the life of me I can't find a good matte glaze. Thanks for your time! :>
Thank you so much!! I don't know what would be good for a matte finish. I do know that the matte version of this finish is NOT recommended for clay. So sorry I can't recommend something. Best of luck!
Anne Warwick Hi Anne :) I would let it dry at least a few hours between coats, overnight for a thick coat. (I do two to three thin coats myself). Definitely let the last coat dry overnight before you thread it onto anything. If you can put the bead on something to hold it still while you paint it, like a toothpick for a large bead or a pin for a smaller one, you could try to paint it in one go. Or, like you said, paint one side, let it dry, paint the other. Just be careful to do thin coats with that method so the edges aren't noticeable. Good luck!
I don't have to worry about inhaling the fumes, or getting it on my hands by accident? Are there any safety issues with using it? And do you have to mix it with water?
I would work in a well ventilated space if you're concerned about fumes and if you get it on your hands it will wash off with soap and water. You don't dilute it.
I don't think you realize we can't see the products you are holding up to the screen for us to see because of the CC that are running across our screens. If you could hold then to the side or the top or bottom of the screen we are more likely to see them .Thanks
Were the seeds on your strawberry painted or clay? Just wondering if you can gloss over paint or oil based pens. I do Ornaments and need to switch up the glaze I’m using which isn’t working well. Thanks!
After a few weeks Varathane begins to feels "tacky" not super tacky but a little bit and losses the color also. Duraclear Ultra Mate (The one I'm using) preserves the soft touch and doesn't fade. Important: Duraclear also is stronger with water,
I know this is an old post but for people like me just finding it and reading... I read a loooong post about varnish and clay and to cut a long story short, it depends on the clay you're using which varnish works best. This woman did a huuuuge post and study with each varnish on each clay and the Varathane worked best on most, but not all, on a few it was tacky like you mentioned. IT depends which clay you use:)
Just read a review on Amazon that says her older pieces coated in this have turned yellow and have become unsellable!! :( Anyone else found this? Desperately looking for an awesome glaze!
Mine haven't, but perhaps the pigments in the clay reacted with the glaze? Not sure, but this glaze is meant to seal hardwood floors so it shouldn't yellow or discolor.

+Mari Sol Nope. It's worked great for me! Sorry to hear that's happened to you. What a bummer! Have you found something else that works better for you??

Great idea using the floral foam, thanks for the glazing tip.

Interesting! I'll keep that in mind, and thank you! :)
Is it skin safe ?

I LOVE the tweezers and foam trick hold up. Thanks for the tutorial:)
I love this, and I have been looking for something to use because I don't like resin but want a nice finish for my clay jewelry

Will varathane protect my acrylic painted polymer clay projects if i were to use them as outdoor ornaments exposed to elements?
yes i would do more than one coat and i would avoid the satin finish only use gloss
Do you ever just dunk them in the glaze?

What polymer clay do you use. Sculpey, Premo, Fimo, Prado etc.
Fimo soft :)

Sweet. Ty ty ty. Will you be doing more videos?
Where do you buy your titanium findings?
I have the same question!
You are the first PC artist whose voice I actually enjoy. love how down to earth you sound.
Thank you so much! :)
thanks for the video. I just picked up some varathane and I'm going to try it out on my jellyfish. ^.^
weird question but how do u clean your brush after ur done with the varnish
Hiii do you know if they changed their labeling ?
what do you use to attach your ear post?
Is Sculpey brand glaze any good?
in my experience, if you're not careful, it doesn't dry very clear, especially if you're using layers that are too thick
Do I bake my fimo clay objects first & then glaze. Or do I bake with the glaze on?
Anna likes mintykisses I have always baked then glazed...
Bake first, glaze after
Hey there would love to know how you glue the post on the back without it falling off. Hope you can message me soon. Thanks
Does it dry quickly?
My acrylic paints are still sticky after a week or more. Will this fix that issue?
Do you use the glaze in place or resin?
this is super helpful! thank you!
Is it true you can use resin as a glaze
Super video thanks for sharing.
İs there any way to speed up glazing process (hot air or uv light)
Is it skin safe ?
What type of glue did you use to put together the titanium with the clay?:)
I was wondering this as well
Probably a dab of UV resin
how fast does it dry, I am using ut on heads to be threaded into a necklace. do I do one end let it dry then turn it over??
Anne Warwick Hi Anne :)
I would let it dry at least a few hours between coats, overnight for a thick coat. (I do two to three thin coats myself). Do you have any ideas on how to glaze clay that is not a charm?
Do one side, then let that dry, then do the other side, let it dry. Done!
is this kind on skin? im making necklaces
Does this work on food?
Thank you! Very helpful :)
Have you tinted your glaze with color?
SammyJo CatLady it has a slight tint but dries fully clear
How many coats do you do? Ans how long do they take to dry?
I don't have to worry about inhaling the fumes, or getting it on my hands by accident? Are there any safety issues with using it? And do you have to mix it with water?

daphireswindel read the label. it should answer all your concerns.
does this yellow your polymer clay works?
+Jaden Wilson I've never had that problem with this glaze.

Hi Alison! The seeds are painted with water based acrylic. I'm partial to the Martha Stewart brand. Hope that helps!
mine comes off when I scratch it with my nail, is that normal?
It really shouldn't. Maybe go for another thin coat after the first dries.
thank you!
Great tips. Thanks a bunch ;-)
Glad to help! :D
:( where's all your vids? you made two nice ones then disappeared. 😢
ronie327 ikr
Ha! Thanks :) I would love to make more, it's just a matter of finding time. Thanks for the encouragement! :)
Bernadette F I understand. but I still wish you could make more. you're good. :)
thank youuuuu!!!
is it sticky?
+Feonalilly When it's dry, not a bit. :) Very smooth. And while you're working with it it's nice and thin, not gloppy like the triple thick.
+Bernadette F I'm sold! thanks for the suggestion :)
@@HeySarahBernadette how long does it take to dry? Thanks 😊

Interesting. I had no luck with Duraclear and my Varathane never became tacky. I'm sorry you didn't have better luck with it!

I saw it

🚫 For anyone watching this in 2024 or beyond - this varnish does not last. It turns yellow over time and ruins your clay pieces.
Hi this is 2020
Hi this is 2021
Hmm... has anyone else had the problem of this stuff disintegrating the piece after some time?
+Mari Sol Nope. It's worked great for me! Sorry to hear that's happened to you. What a bummer! Have you found something else that works better for you??
Does this work on resin?
