So. This video got me thinking about something that I forgot I was wondering a reason for... Why bother putting putty or silicone or any sealant under the top part of a bathroom drain tailpiece? I'm talking the most common drains... the ones meant for sinks with overflows. The drain has holes in the middle, to let the overflow down the drain.. and the drain seals from the bottom of the sink in the case of bathroom sinks. It's not like kitchen sinks that we seal from the top. Run water, and a slight bit of blockage or not- the water runs down, INTO the overflow holes where the gunk accumulates regardless. So unless you have a tailpiece with no overflow drains and a sink with no overflow- what really is the point to seal the top? I know it's not to make it easier to remove in the future because of all the sinks that had putty there that I still wound up needing to pry out because the putty wasn't on the threads of the drain ring, so... whyyyyyyyy?? Feels like a waste of time and money. The only places I agree to putty, thinking about this are Kitchen sinks, tub drains, valves etc where the putty is the actual seal. Joking aside, I have taken to liking to use a little plumbers dope, one safe for rubber and plastic (like blue monster) and lightly add some to the area the rubber seal meets the sink on the underside of the drain assemblies. Seems to help prevent that spot from leaking in the case of poorly manufactured sinks or rubber gaskets. I put some on, smooth it out and remove excess on a paper towel then install.
Hi Ray, been loving your videos man! I’m going to HVAC school at night and working at a university as a maintenance tech. Definitely look up at you especially since I’m in my 20s. Thanks for all of your videos & tips. Much love Ray.
Thank you ray for telling me about running toilet auger in reverse saved me from pulling the toilet for some reason some of these old American standard toilets you can’t get the auger down there
When I saw make it work I was thinking man he's gonna have to rig something or everything 😆. Fart fans are a pain when there not standard or old I've been through that. On a few of the properties I work at I fabricate a bracket out of angle iron thay fits the style they have if it's not conventional then make a ton of them. One day of making brackets saves me a ton of time ripping out old fans since it's likely they were made probably the same fan in each unit originally. Some bar stock a few holes drill taps and they come together quickly. Here's to keeping your sanity!

Another great job Ray what kind of silicone or caulk we’re using in the bathroom you seem to apply it so easily?
