I am 67 years old love this song just discovered Sam fender , loved Loved Lindisfarne , now love Sam fender , heard a bit of him on radio now checked him out on you tube , and watched various. Stuff and the full concert at Glasgow . definitely going to go to a gig
Singing for the people who’s voices are unheard. Another job very well done. Incredible vocals, incredible lyrics from Alan Hull too. Stay safe and have the best Christmas possible people.
The people who in charge of this project are scamming homeless ppl and make money of their back…so sad I’m gonna connect a lawyer they actually took my photo without tell me shit
At 60 if you no the music I have had heard over the years...This young man has awakened my soul. This song will lay me to rest when God calls my name..amen.
I saw Alan Hull sing this live so many times and it was always one of those spine tingling moments of every show. I think he'd be delighted with this version which adds new life to an old song. SF should be proud of this cover version.
An incredible song written by a hero of mine, Alan Hull, and a beautiful and haunting version by the wonderful Sam Fender. Jimmy Alan Hull.....your music lives on.... Rest in peace.
This song and video makes me think about the real meaning of Christmas far away from presents, lights and Christmas trees. It's all about being there for others. Thank you, Sam for the amazing cover song.
This song is incredible. Christmas is a time when we listen to carols, unwrap presents, and drink hot cider. We're bombarded with red, green, and golden lights. It's a time where everyone seems to gather in unison and enjoy the festivities. For me, Christmas is a time when our church gathers to eat a potluck lunch as Christmas jazz music plays in the background. But is it a privilege to associate Christmas to such thoughts? Have I really spared "a thought for the homeless tramp" or "for the traveller with no secure position"? What does Christmas mean for them? Do they think about the same merriment or are they preoccupied by worries of where to sleep the next night? I can only imagine. "When winter comes howling in," we gather with friends and family to keep ourselves warm. But what about those who don't have anyone? I dunno. This song really makes me think whether there's some meaningful change I can bring to those who can't. Maybe I'm being naive. Maybe I'm not. But it really makes me think. Sam's vocals are amazing too!
Brilliant comment. Also check out Alan's great song Cardboard Christmas Boxes - it contains the lyric 'For those that think that Christmas is goodwill to all men, take a walk down London streets, look and think again' and 'For those that live in cardboard Christmas boxes how the London bells will chime'. These songs for me spell out the true meaning of Christmas as a spiritual person, those of care and love and compassion. 2020's a strange year with Covid yet I'm not missing the ultra commercialised Christmas, the forced merriment, the must-have gifts, the £6 a glass of mulled wine at festive markets, the once a year drinkers causing mayhem. The fact Sam is raising awareness of homelessness through this song means we are initiating change and helping people and making a difference.
If you want to make meaningful change, take action and start by helping just one person. Buy a hot meal for one homeless person and show them some kindness that they may not have had for a while. Making someone's day is meaningful change :) Great song and vocals I agree!
@@colinmcgregor6384 Alan Hull was just a genius with poignant messages in most the songs Lindisfarne did. A genuine people’s poet. Still sadly missed . Rip Alan Hull
Amazing. Elvis Costello called this the greatest song ever written and you have done a stunning version. It's 25 years since Alan Hull died and I'd like to think he's shining down on you for this. It's still a highlight of Lindisfarne shows and I hope it will become a highlight of yours too. Going on the Christmas playlist along with Cardboard Christmas Boxes from Statues & Liberties Alan's final album.
What a gem song I've heard on radio while working at a restaurant. All of my tiresome and stresses were melted down. I'm sure every customers dining in felt how I felt. Bless you Sam.
One of my favourite Lindisfarne songs, and one which I’d always hoped someone could do real justice with a cover. Job well and truly done. Superb piece of music Sam.
This song is so beautiful and the words so true. Of only people opened there eyes and heart more the world would be a better place. So much judgment now everyone is equal. ❤❤❤ you have a big heart Sam
Thank you for sharing this perspective on the holidays in such a beautiful song. It really humbles you to realize how lucky we are, especially during winter. God bless all the homeless, especially all the Veterans, during these cold months and beyond. May they have boundless blessings and luck in their future.
Beautifully sang, I loved Lindisfarne and saw them in Weston-super-Mare when I was 20. A song that should send a message to us all. Newcastle now have you Sam.
What a powerful song!It certainly makes me feel guilty about worrying about pitiful things in my life. There are a lot of very unfortunate people on our streets in Britain. All the more worrying considering we are the 6th richest country on the planet🤬🤬🤬

It's so appropriate that this song was first brought out by a Geordie group called Lindisfarne in 1970. I love the way Sam sticks to his roots.
No one does it like Sam Fender these days. Sings with such emotion and passion. A true rare talent.

When winter's shadowy fingers
First pursue you down the street
And your boots no longer lie
About the cold around your feet
Do you spare a thought for summer
Whose passage is complete
Whose memories lie in ruins
And whose ruins lie in heat?
When winter comes howling in
When the wind is singing strangely
Blowing music through your head
And your rain-splattered windows
Make you decide to stay in bed
Do you spare a thought for the homeless tramp
Who wishes she was dead
Or pull up your bedclothes higher
Dream of summertime instead?
When winter comes howling in
The creeping cold has fingers
That caress without permission
And mystic crystal snowdrops
Only aggravate the condition
Do you spare one thought for the traveler
With no secure position
Who's turned and spurned by village and town
At the magistrate's decision?
When winter comes howling in
When the turkey is in the oven
And the Christmas presents are bought
And Santa's in his module
He's an American astronaut
Do you spare one thought for Jesus
Who had nothing but his thoughts
Who got busted just for talking
And befriending the wrong sorts?
When winter comes howling in
When winter
When winter comes
Comes howling in
