- Curve - No escape from heaven (the blindfold ep 1991 - pubic fruit 1992)
I can see through your eyes
to the back of your mind
all you've said is fiction
the blind leading the blind
I'd like to take your clothes off
and play for a while
you'll hold my hand in summertime
we'll walk for miles
and you'd be mine
hold my hand in summertime
you are mine
There's no escape from heaven
try as you might
there's no escape from heaven
Lie on the floor
don't open your eyes
just listen to the sweetness
of this lullaby
break my heart in anger
hit me in love
push me into danger
give me that shove
hold my hand in summertime
we'll walk for miles
and you'd be mine
hold my hand in summertime
you are mine
There's no escape from heaven
try as you might
there's no escape from heaven
there's no escape from heaven
try as you might
there's no escape from heaven
Hold my hand in summertime
Hold me, hold me
hold me like you used to
hold me, hold me
hold me like you used to
So, it's 2023. The general music landscape, to put it kindly, is bleak. Who else is here, basking in the brilliance of not only Curve, but the impeccable production provided by Flood? Surely you are out there, misunderstood, and intentionally out of step with the times. You are seen. You are loved.
well said !!!
It popped up this afternoon and I said wow
Still brilliant after all these years. I miss this sound so much.
Why would you want to escape? Ayyy this is still amazing, 1988-93 was a great time for British independent music. Then Oasis came along and fucked everything up by being shite.
I have said this at least a 100000 times... and that is, the band GARBAGE ripped of Curve in regards to their sound for 2.0 or that's the way it feels to me... to me pubic fruit album has some of the best sounds for any band at any time. god this sound was so original when it came out.
Wouldn't say ripped off - that album is heavily influenced by Curve and Tribe
Still sounding as good as back in the 90's....Timeless excellent pair ,Toni and Dean.
love and miss you, toni. especially live, you're brilliant.
Criminally low amount of views
I love this so much its untrue, what an absolute tune. Saw them once live they were great in Edinburgh somewhere.
Still listening 2019
beautiful layers of guitar distortion... 🎸🎸👍
gorgeous sultry Tonis vocals ugh so sexy... 🇬🇧🎤👍😍
still love this in 2019, the words so relatable to a relationship i was in at the time
I bought every 7”, 10”, EP and album by Curve back in the day! I know it’s not PC… but Toni had more than a lovely voice!!!🥰
Shame all the live recordings of this band live are so shonky. They were brilliant. This was a favourite track of the time.
"I'd like to take your clothes off, and play for while."
Oh go on then, Toni, if we must.
"Hold me like you used to" is just as good of a line.

My fav Curve song hands down! I only saw Curve once & this song escaped me. :[ Toni, please bring Curve back.
John Pael's festy 50 in 92. He was feeling sorry for himself as no one had voted. I voted in this and b*ll*cked him for being a soppy old git. Curve are + will always be brilliant, there's no escape from that.
This is such a great disc. Actually saw them live in '96. Way too loud, but it was great to be there. Trivia: the fruit on the cover is called a Chum-Chum in Vietnam. If you run across them in an Asian market, get a fresh box. They're great.
That's good to know - I always thought it was a picture of something unpleasant under a microscope!
general name of the fruit is rambutan.
Thank you ❤️
You're close. It's chôm chôm (pronounced 'chahm chahm') and yes, they are delicious.
This Still gives me goosebumps...Saw then 3 Times live and met Toni at Manchester
Good version. Still think that the Peel Sessions were the best recordings they made, especially this track. Have a nice day, Toni, wherever you are.
They always played this to end gigs in early 90s
It's a shame Garbage stole their sound.
only 28 years ago wait what? holy shit
Fuck......
Wow, just found this, the last time I heard it was probably live at Slough in 1991 :O Amazing track!
I can't "like" this enough.
Tear off the mask and groove. January 2021.
February 2022
Fantastic song then and now. 👩🚀🐈🚀
Too good.
this is good stuff
probably the most underated band from the 90's easy... there sound was so great that garbage stole it hard... and i love garbage... i so miss this band... i so thank you for putting it up... keep rocking and keep smoking... and joking... peace
Agreed 💯
Absolutely!!
'all he says is fiction, blind leading the blind....'
thanks to you :)
thanks too much, curve are cool :)
quoting both of you, I've got the radio sessions on vinyl and this is freaking amazing! one of their best shots and a shoegaze classic. cheers for uploading!
but please fade the guit a little down, to better hear her beautifull voice. greetings from germany
🖤
thanks to you for listening, i adore too the radio session :)
Does anyone know what guitar pedals/amps are used here? I’m fairly new on guitar and would love to try something with this kind of sound.
A lot of studio rack gear, and probably something like a Harmonic Wah, and a LOUD British-voiced amp. If I was to try and replicate this with affordable gear...VOX wah (wider sweep), E-Lady Flanger>RAT Distortion, then maybe a little analog delay into plate reverb. Compressor/Limiter could be used post-gain, to even out the dynamics. I think I hear a tremolo in there somewhere, it's not unlike some of the sounds you hear on Jesus and Mary Chain "Honey's Dead" album, produced by Alan Moulder (Curve producer and Halliday's main squeeze at the time)
You'd want a good amp - 20-30W minimum. I'd use something like a Blackstar HT20 Studio or a Fender Bassbreaker (one of the higher wattage ones. 18/30, 30r, 45) or a Laney Lionheart 20.
You could probably find out what they used. Remember, Alan Moulder was a very talented producer, and Dean Garcia grew up steeped in Rock 'n Roll/Psychedelia.
