10M. Both sound great, but in certain registers of the horn, the 10M has a character that is just sweeter in my opinion. Beautiful playing, by the way!
When you switch from that SBA to the Conn, it's like you open the windows and let the sun in ... but great playing on both. But the Conn is definitely a fuller sound on this recording.
Ive got a 1955 mark 6 and 1953 10m for those of you that dont know. The 10m has a 6.25 inch bell. The 6 is 6 inches. I use a super tone master on the 10m and a selmer soloist short shank on the 6. Dont know how much difference an sba is but my tech says my 6 has alot of Sba parts. On the 53 10m it has straight tone holes. Both are dark and have lots of color. I wouldnt part with either of them.😊
Guess I'm the only one (so far) who agrees with Roger, I like the overall sound of the SBA better, especially when he goes up an octave. Odd, since I always like almost any horn compared to a Selmer, especially a VI--the others have more meat. That Conn is awfully pretty, though. Best sounding SBA I've ever heard!
I think the SBA could have more focus and power to the sound. And the Conn had more of a softer and mellower tone. I have a 1939 10M that plays absolutely beautifully.
As a former 10M owner... They are way over hyped. When i switched to a Yamaha 62II... It felt like i had been hindered by the action of the 10M, and intonation was no comparison. Ergonomics were just not very developed in saxes pre Mark VI. If you want to wrestle with your horn, the 10m can sound very beautiful.
I’ve done the research… Dexter knew his setup! That means mpc and reed. The horn is an amplifier of what comes from the setup. Get your setup right and you have a great secret!
The Conn 10m has well balanced overtones, beautiful!
“The sound is you”. Closing my eyes the differences between the two sax are really small. In a club we won’t hear any.
2 beautiful sax
Sound great on both. 2 of my favorite tenors of all time. Going wth the 10M . Like to hear you on a late New Wonder II / early transitional
Beautiful playing. Two different concepts of what "ideal" is . Both are grooving me!
Thank you!

Conn dominates.
Conn 10M. I have a 6M alto from the same year, and Conns have a certain mojo that makes it very special.
i'm a huge conn head... ;-) but here your sound and playing fit better the sba
selmer all day baby
I should add, beautiful performance ❤
That old patina brass instrument sounds wonderful, the Selmer wasn't bad either but that Conn is boss
Conn!
10m!!!!!!!!
Woow
France, Germany,
Elkhart In., pro saxes are pretty much equal. If the same mpc/reed setup is used, Conn comes out with an edge here.

10M1
os dois são duas máquinas do som!!!!
Pode ter diferença na mecânica e claro que tem!!!!
Mais no som na minha umilde opinião.
digo que não!!!!
Who are you, and where are you playing to come and hear you.

Is playing fast on the 10m possible?
These comparisons are stupid if dexter played on either horn hed sound d the same on both its the player
I dont agree, just listen to Dexter when he plays 10m vs MKVI.
