Songs used: Fly High!! by Burnout Syndromes
Haikyuu!! created by Production I.G. based on an original manga written by Haruichi Furudate and published by Shueisha in Shonen Jump. Series licensed for distribution in North America by Sentai Filmworks.
nothing makes me happier than people praising haikyuu bc it honestly deserves all the praise
Thighs.
Ikr and of course the ass as well
Agreed.
Indeed.
Don’t forget the arm flexes like 🥴🥵
Bruh Haikyuu sold me so hard on volleyball I went from going "But I don't care about this dumb sport" to watching professional leagues, joining a local team to learn to actually play and having my own emotional support volleyball (not a joke).
Emily Smith I first watched it because I play volleyball, it always gets me hyped before a game! It's so realistic in the moves and techniques!
Sweetcarmelcand x I was always a softball/baseball gal myself and now I watch more volleyball than either of those. I even follow my favorite players on social media. It's a problem haha!
Saaaaame
It feels different w aikyuu!! @@Muni-muni6
Haikyuu is what got me to playing volleyball XD
"Alright you got exactly 10 seconds to trick me to getting excited about volleyball."
Lol it's the whole opening that's freaking fabulous
Tobeeee flyyy
Not "the whole opening" it's "every opening" ✨🧡
And the award for most unexpected collab goes to...
THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME
YES
Seriously! I refreshed my Subscription page out of boredom and did a double take when I saw this. Extra Credits is one of my favorite channels and I never would've guessed this.
EXTRA CREDITS COLLAB HYPE!
My mind was blown when I saw the thumbnail in the sub-box
This show really hits hard with me as a men’s volleyball player. I’ve been playing since third grade, and am currently going into the 17s age group. I’m 6’4”, and am planning on going to play Division 3 in college. I play as a middle blocker, and so I have a sorta personal connection to Hinata and Tsukki. It’s funny, because throughout most of my life, I’m the tall person in the room, but when I play middle, I’m the small guy. Every other middle I come up against at tournaments is 6’6” to 6’10”. A lot of people find it odd how I compare myself to Hinata, but in actual volleyball I have to play like him. I have to be the quick guy, I have to leap super high in order to challenge the middles I play against, I have to be the decoy. I have a 36” vertical, and even with that it can be a struggle sometimes. Blocking is where I connect to Tsukki, I try to be smart, and work hard to understand the court around me. For all of the exaggerated moments in this show, (the speed of the game is monumental faster than what the show portrays), it perfectly catches those moments of triumph, and the moments of crushing defeat. When you block a huge power hitter, every part of you wants to leap to the sky and scream, and your whole team is cheering with joy right next to you. The exhaustion you feel after a hard fought win. The weight of losing, like the world is dragging you into the dirt. This show goes above and beyond to represent those moments for me, and that’s why it will always hold a special place in my heart.
I'm a swimmer and this anime and your comment have me wanting to get stupid fast just to be that cool lol. A little petty, but motivating in my case.
👏👏 well said, I heard somewhere that Haruichi Furudate played volleyball
DUDE I JUST STARTED WATCHING HAIKYUU THIS IS AWESOME
YASS
Fuck yeah it's great
Which season are you in? :D
YESSSS
Haikyuu is incredible
I. Fucking. Love. This show. The matches, characters, and the OP's (especially fly high because god damn) are all amazing. I didn't care about volleyball at all before this but this show made me care. This is one of the most pleasant surprises I've had in a long time. I can't even remember the amount of times I watched the last few minutes of the last match because holy shit it is just truly amazing. For those who haven't seen it I highly recommend it.
Now we have gotten another mind blowing opening 'Hikariareeeeeee'.
The sports anime intends to hype the viewer into the sport discipline, and that's obvious. Also, Haikyuu!! is well made, so the hype gets real. After I finished watching both Haikyuu!!'s seasons, I immediately changed my mind about volleyball and started training. Now I can't live without it, and everyone knows that there's no human more excited for playing this sport than me. I just... Volleyball. It's funny how my "friend" is laughing at me, saying it's weird for a person to start liking something only because of anime. Well, this isn't JUST ANIME.
Setters are cool :D
Kageyama Tobio Well for me the story is different I started playing volleyball because I wanted to waste my free time at home and I did like anime that time and once Haikyu!! Caught my attention and Watched It lol I sometimes I become the referee when I watch this lol..
Betsy Desantos
But you got hyped too I assume.
Kageyama Tobio I criedd when season 3 came out and Now Im here waiting for episode 7 AND ITS BEFORE MY VOLLEYBALL TOURMENT UGHGHGHG THE HYPE IS FRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!
Betsy Desantos
Me too! I can't wait for the episode 7 to appear!
For a die-hard volleyball player, and also a watcher of Haikyuu, I'm really glad they pay so much attention to detail and accuracy of how the game really works and how the players move. I get a sense of satisfaction when they hit or recieve a tough serve that's almost similar to actually doing it in game.
I just went to watch the OP, and at least now I know WHY it gives me chills every time I see it
I ain't saying it was the Al Behd but it was the Al Behd
Wakka: Made in Yevon not to forget that Hinata's eyes are open at that starting moment because he's been training for that
there's foreshadowing: the crow (Karasuno) flies above Aoba Josai --> they rise above them. (showing Shiratorizawa is a give-away to)
also Hinata's shot in the OP is his last shot of the season. they are teasing that the win will depend on Hinata's ability to get the shot beyond the wall to score a point. it's the skill that is shown in the midsection with the dark shadows, where we see that he has opened his eyes but the hands are still looming over him (last shot in that scene) since he still hasn't overcome this.
PS: yay, you talked about Daichi's cheek changing^^ but i would have liked a sentence about him bearing the weight of the team. i could show this OP to someone that doesn't know the series and let them guess who the captain is.
your changing between saying there first and last names was a bit odd. i can get behind calling Daichi by his first name since its used very often in the show but almost nobody calls Tsukishima "Kei" xD
Dan without the voice filter will never sound normal to me.
shhh im waiting for revival of podtaku
Dude, whats your views on Haikyuu?
So that's what Dan's voice sounds like . . .
Same thoughts exactly.
i had no idea his voice was filtered.
Not sure if someone said this before but I just wanted to add that when Takeru (Wakutani's captain) is shown, we can clearly see his family behind him, with fair more detail than the other audience, and I think is a lovely detail to show us the spirit of that team, and how important is their support to him
Viviana Muñoz Leiva
Isn’t the team called Wakunan?
Watch Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru(Run with the Wind), its a masterpiece.
this video got me so hyped again for haikyuu wth. My puls is way too high
+Fujimoto good excuse to go out and exercise
Is your pulse fly high
BURNOUT SYNDROMES - Hikari Are. Please do this, please
That hypes me sooo much
IT'S SO GOOD
😭😭😭
This is by far my favorite op of the series
me too!!! gets me more hyped for season 3
+aasl25 ikr?!???
Op 3 was the best in my opinion, love it!!!
this is my second favourite... my first is season 3 op I love it so much I learned all the lyrics lol
Theme song 5.
I really don't like sport anime, but this opening gave chills multiple times.
Watch it...its an amazing series
I actually sort of loathe and despise sports anime, but Haikyuu is by far one of my favorite anime in existence. Instant top 10 list contender, at least, so you should check it out. Its on CrunchyRoll
+Britney Rezendes if you like shounen at all, hajime no ippo is a great boxing/shounen anime
Haikyuus first season was good but the second one just got fucking amazing.
That's not Dan! Dan has the voice of two children in a trenchcoat!
LMFAO
I understood that reference
***** IDK, ask Scott; IDK, ask Scott; IDK, ask Scott; 42; To get to the other side; It could've; And lastly:
IDK, ask Scott.
*snickers*
Watch Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru(Run with the Wind), its a masterpiece.
This video makes me want to take my drawing "career" into the animation level.
It's the hardest out of all drawing careers.
Good luck! :)
CopherSans thanks, I'll need it :o
+Twinflame Byond and if you're in Japan you're not paid enough :x
Same.
Its one of those jobs where you have to love what you do. You get paid almost as bad as a teacher (meaning you get paid peanuts). But go for it if you love it.
Have you ever thought about doing a "What's in a Scene?" for Haikyuu? Honestly, the last rally against Shiratorizawa or Aoba Johsai would definitely be the best choice.
Just when I thought Haikyuu's openings couldn't get better
As always, your content is splendid. I just wish I wasn't poor so I could help support the show.
just hearing positivity from the comments section is support enough, man.
although, FYI, even ten cents a month is equivalent to watching all the ads on every video on my channel. Small amounts are appreciated.
I'M NOT JEALOUS. NOPE. IT'S FINE. YEAH. YOU CAN UHHHH HAVE OTHER GUEST STARS. I DON'T MIND. YUP. COOL. GLAD THE VIDEO DID WELL. I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED IT. HAPPILY. JUST FINE. I'M. JUST.
FINE.
Tell ya what. If you watch Code Geass with me we can do colors as soon as it's done. or Toradora.
This is a good deal for all of us.
Do it do it!
Just do it!!!!
Please PLEASE do Code Geass. It is best -anime- -series- visual media ever.
I cried with my friend when we watched the OP for the first time, as the both of us who were caught up on the manga were so ready for what was to come ^ ^
The coloring, the shadowing, the flawless scenes, the music, the hype, everything, this op is my favorite by far. Even though I am not a animation expert, I'm pretty sure most people can truly see the beauty in this opening and I hope they continue making ops for this show at the same caliber.
i really hope that you'll make more videos with Daniel in the future. You two are a good team.^^ Unfortunatly for you I'm already a subscriber of extra credits.^^ I already loved that OP, but you showed me a lot of new things to love, cause i only noticed the obvious stuff like the crow etc.
EXTRA CREDITS! I'm a subscriber of both of you guys this is a dream come true!
Loved this analysis video. Got hyped all over again for this show! This opening always gives me goosebumps
i know right! like everytime. I just rewatched both seasons after watching this video, for the 8th time now I guess
Extra credits was a great guest! Haikyuu definitely knows how to bring the hype. I personally love how the draw Mad Dog in that heavy-scratchy lineart.
Him: Characters jumping to serve jump waaay up in the air, impossibly high.
Yuji Nishida: Impossibly? Hold my kneepads
Yuji Nishida: *Laughs in 346cm vertical*
you make me want to watch a show in my least favorite genre.
sports amime is just not my style BUT HAIKYUU IS DAMN GOOD I DID NOT REGRET WATCHING IT
Want to be sold on a sports anime by opening alone? Watch Chihayafuru!
Though I say that, the opening is meaningful when you take the actual plot in consideration, and the music holds a much deeper meaning after witnessing it playing on the background when the most critical moments start playing.
Who am I kidding, I just want to make you watch a bunch of high school kids playing karuta!
Watch Hajime no Ippo - because it seems as sports show, but the sport is Boxing - what makes it also a battle anime. Also it's very funny at times. I don't like sports anime, but Ippo is one of my fav.
please watch diamond no ace, slam dunk, and ping pong the animation
You most absolutely should watch Haikyuu. I've never liked sports anime (or even sports in general), either, but I gave Haikyuu a chance one day and I was hooked within half of the first episode. This anime will make you scream, cry, and cheer, and just thinking about how hyped it gets me, someone who watches almost nothing but otome-based anime, brings tears to my eyes.
It really makes you bond with Hinata, and pulls you into how he sees the world, and makes you honestly feel like you're there, in person, watching him play with all his heart and soul.
Just waiting for the Haikyuu Season 3 opening analysis......
INeedToSleep cc
"you have ten seconnds to trick me into caring about volleyball"
Man, your channel and EC are pretty much my two favorite channels on TH-cam right now. That we ended up with a collab episode for Haikyuu is just amazing. Great breakdown, solid attention to detail, and I wound up learning a lot in the process. Nice video!
Haikyuu, Haikyuu, Haikyuu. I always feel like a proud mother when someone talks good about it. ^-^ I really loved this opening and the ebding scene especially!
Geoff, your content analysis is always insightful and enlightening, but adding someone who can speak to the technical content has really kicked your video up to the next level. I hope you can do more collaborations like this, because it was fantastic.
YES YES MORE HAIKYUU YES YES YES
This was an amazing collaboration. Really well put together. You two should definetly work together on more videos
heck I became better at playing volleyball from watching haikyuu's volleyball physics
Milstrein same. picking up balls got easier with the inspiration of nishinoya.
Could not think of a better collab than bringing on Daniel Floyd to talk about the animation. This was awesome!
I watched ads for you. Now you owe me a drink :P
+Shakydrummer get back to me when you've watched 8000 ads
+Mother's Basement
7,998 to go....
done
+vincent schuurhof
fucker, beat me to it
God honestly, TH-cam is FUCKINg ridiculous
I don't know how I missed this. "Fly High" gets me hyped but "Hikari Are" gives me a dollop of feels.
Aah yeah. Good to see a fellow Malayali brothers over here too.
Man whoever the drummer is ,he is nailing it. I have heard all three Burnout Syndromes songs and they are all kick ass!
*(ft Daniel Floyd)*
I like how you put his well-known comic representation from Extra Credits into the thumbnail (*including* the EC podium) to make sure people know who he is, lol.
For that reason, I must admit I was surprised when I heard him speak with his normal voice rather than through his persona (i.e. with the high pitch).
you mean his two children in a trench coat voice?
He does a lot of talking with his normal voice on the channel though.
I am so glad you revisited Haikyuu!!, this OP was incredible, everything from the song to the animation, and you made me want to rewatch this season.
I always knew that haikyuu is the best
i love that you tackle the reactions. i LOVE haikyuu and i love watching hinata and kageyama especially do their stuff, but what i love watching even more is the reactions of the people around them TO them.
*Me, shaking intensely*: yes I love haikyuu a normal amount
HAIKYUU, with just 4 episodes in, is now one of the legendary animes. It literally held its own with its amazingly written plot, well grounded characters and everything else.
This was actually really interesting?!??! I think I can appreciate this OP even more
Finally! A video talkin about the concept, foreshadowing, and epic animation of Haikyuu's OP!!!
HAIKYUU!! SEASON 3 OPENING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love the analysis on this. Really makes you appreciate the unnoticed details that the animators put into the work.
/patiently waits for an analysis on the newest OP/ I know i know, the season just started and I'm a newb at analysis, but i think the season 3 OP blew me away even more than this one tbh, and i LOVE fly high
OH MY GOD THAT WAS AMAZING! Fly high has always been my fav haikyuu op. I am in love with the music and all but I never really pay that much attention to the mv cus i was so focused to the music. This video really enhances my experience in watching the op, knowing that the animation is amazing and thus makes me way more hyped up to watch the anime! Thank you so much for analyzing this for me! ^^
I got into Volleyball late last year cause of this anime. I'm thankful for it cause it's so much fun and I'm representing my region now in the U15 Team. :) Thank you Haikyuu.
This collab was amazing! I swear that each scene you analyzed just got my heart beating like crazy.
I've been a long time lurker on both of your channels, but having both of you together in one video is definitely noteworthy enough to merit a comment. Great work you two! Hopefully I can meet you guys at GDC or another event sometime. Keep doing what you're doing, both of you provide a wealth of both information and inspirationin my life!
Thanks for the kind words! I'm grateful Geoff invited me to help out with this one. He's been killing it with this series. :)
Thank you for taking the time to respond Dan! I've been listening to a lot of Jeff's work in the procrastinators podcast and it's like music to me. I'm currently working on my final project in my game design program, and having these longer form videos is the only thing keeping my sanity during the sleepless nights! I can't thank you enough for your work.
I in LOVE with this video I never really thought about this things even when I love every op of the series so much. I think this gives the viewer a very helpful way of appreciate and understand more the anime and the intense job they put into it. It would be amazing if you could make another about the 3rd op?;)
Bringing back the Haikyuu!! feels I see. Ugh I can't wait for season 3
I love this analysis. It's so thorough and thoughtful I can just listen to you guys analyzing haikyuu animation all day long. Haikyuu is amazing and the OP never fails to give me goosebumps everytime I watch it.
What?! An Extra Credits and Mother's Basement Collab?!
Now we need to have a Mother's Basement and Extra Credits crossover, maybe about Japanese video games?
Lets pray it never happens again.
This is also my favorite of the Haikyuu!! OPs, and I am SO HAPPY to see it getting the attention and praise it deserves. I learned why it's so powerful to me, so thank you both wonderful and informative video!!!
"I go online just to watch this OP" 😂😂😂😐omg So me
imagination - best song
fly high - best animation
hikari are - best symbolism
EXTRA CREDITS?!?!??! IT'S A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN!
Why? Geoff isn't up his own ass and hasn't deliberately lied to push an agenda on multiple occasions.
I would love to see more anime breakdowns like this! It was way interesting to see the thought process of the minds behind the shows I adore. I love seeing the aesthetic and mise-en-scene explained like this!
Can you make a "what's in an OP" for Re:Zero? It seems really good for analysis .
Yes, please, that OP is beast
I would personally rather have him wait until the show is completely over before he goes to analyze the OP. However, I do agree that it might be a potentially cool one to do. I would absolutely love it if Geoff did a "What's in an OP" or some scene analysis videos on Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu though. That show was absolutely incredible and it has so much to talk about in my opinion.
Yesssss! I hope he does Re:zero
He actually did
I can't do anything but just cry at this marvelous explanation.
The past 2 years there have been some really really good sports animes. Haikyyu probably tops them all.
Would you suggest some the so called good sport anime? try to find one nothing got me hooked except yowapedal
You are an expert a animating, I suppose. You observe each frame so carefully, like, man!!! You're too good.
It's a small thing, but the fact that you can see Aoba Johsai's #12 cover the back of the head before Oikawa serves (~11:14) made me laugh bucket-tons the first time I saw this OP. Servers in men's matches focus a ton on power, a lot of the times to the detriment of their control, so sometimes they can really clock it to their teammates. You see people on the US team do exactly this when Matt Anderson serves.
Omg, I feel like crying 'cause I never really noticed all these beautiful details in the Fly High!! OP and I'm just really amazed and touched because of how much thought and effort the animators gave to this OP. Anyway, thanks for the amazing vid!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS ANOTHER HAIKYUU VID YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Mad respect for getting together a colab with Extra Credits' Daniel Floid.
First a collab between Akidearest and Gaijin Goomba, then one between CGPGrey and Kurtzegat, and now one between Mother's Basement and Daniel Floyd? Man, lots of collabs between youtubers I'm subscribed to that I didn't even know knew each other.
Try saying those sentences three times fast.
i agree wholeheartedly
Bah, I have literally just finished (finally) catching up with Haikyuu!!, and having watched this I now want to go back and start it all over again. I kinda wish I'd seen this video a couple of months ago when I was umm-ing and ahh-ing about starting the series, your enthusiasm is contagious!
A collab with Dan? i'm excited :D
Something that's worth mentioning is that in the second action part of the OP the animation is really well synced with the music,
Good job production I.G :D
Extra Credits! \o/
This analysis was pretty cool, but it made it better the fact we could learn a bit about animation dynamics and the tricks Daniel speaks about. Really really glad, thanks Jeff.
After today I think Hikari Are trumps FLY AWAY in almost every manner. Guess now he'll get spammed to do that OP next.
the animation style is really great! i love this video... i was also waiting for you to analyse haikyuu's second op in season 2... but here it is! again.. great video as always!
Man hearing Dans voice undistorted always sounds weird x'D
Truly. ;)
Just wanted to say thanks for this video (and the other OP vid on Haikyu!!). I've been on the fence about sports anime in general but I couldn't truly find motivation to watch any of them until this. I've watched a total of 3 episodes so far and I am completely enraptured. Your content is phenomenal. Hopefully, I'll soon be able to contribute financially. (You would have the honor of being my first patreon supportee)
Haikyuu has the best op
This song actually started playing on my computer as I was watching the video, haha. Anyway, great video and great collab! It's weird to hear Daniel without his voice sped up.
DAN =D
If you guys could do more videos together, it would be really cool!
Dan's animation analysis and your content meaning detection skills really make a pair!
I know, right? I found it weird when Dan was suddenly on the thumbnail, but he really gave an interesting analysis! I loved that combination!
They would make a fantastic collab show.
It's a shame they're both very busy with their own XD
Everybody is surprised that Extra Credits is collabing with you, but I'm not sure why, this feels like a normal thing to happen to me :p
He should do What's in a scene Re:Zero Subaru's death scene.
Every single one of them.
Being shown the small details and what makes it more beautiful brings proud tears to my eyes :,) I can't wait for season four
Steins;Gate opening analysis
yes!
yes!!!!!
Great ideia!
Yes please, I would be very thankful 😃
This was the only comment I was motivated enough to like
OMG I love Haikyuu! I love your commentary and OMG EXTRA CREDITS DANIEL!! Great job guys!
YEEESSSS!!!!
Has Daniel watched Haikyuu? That is so cool. I guess I just assumed he was gaming and doing gaming things in his limited free time.
watch haikyuu..trust me it make u hype like fuckkk😍😍
The awesome new channel I discovered a while ago and another awesome youtuber I've already been following all over a nice OP? Sweet.
Hype for season 3 this fall?
Man, I was so hyped for that awesome Extra Credits voice. It's so unique :( awesome collab though
Could you do one about Hikari Are? The season three opening?
Really cool video!! All your Haikyuu videos get me so hype!
