my Dads favourite song, he was a British soldier in North Africa, Italy and Sicily. I miss him
My father's too, he would be singing along. He joined up in December 1939, turned down the offer of a commission and did the grand tour of East Africa, North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, Belgium, The Netherlands and ended the war in Hamburg where he was demobbed in February 1946. He never felt blind hatred for Italians and Germans and certainly didn't considered himself a hero, I only found out that he had a box full of medals (still in their wrapping) when he went into hospital for the last time.

My Father was a soldier in The British 8th army Polish 2 corps 3rd carpathian inf div and fought in Cassino , Ancona and Bologna . He told me he rembered on a quiet night on the front lines lili Marleen would be played by German soldiers he said it too was his favorite song at that time in the war. He will be missed
My father too was in the 8th Army in North Africa and would hear this wafting from the German lines on the airwaves on a quiet night in the desert. He always said it was the best tune to come out of WW2.
Schön das dieses wunderbare Lied nicht vergessen wird! Es war in einer fürchterlichen Zeit über die Fronten hinweg populär, den ein Mädchen hatten nicht nur deutsche Soldaten.

@@Gabi-cp9mn Ja, ich bei mir war das noch so. Nach zwei-drei Wochen sind ein paar ausgetickt weil sie das mit den 6-Bett Stuben ungewohnt war. Aber viele Schweizer sind da ja noch schlimmer dran.
Das war ein Lied, was allen Soldaten Hoffnung gab! Ich habe 2 Onkel in Russland verloren... Meine alte Kneipenwirtin 4 von 8 Brüdern, aber das Lied...
Dieses Lied bringt immerTränen in meine Augen,so viele Erinnerungen sind damit verbunden !!!

This was the closing song of the Afrika Corps before the radio went off. The Brits liked it and found an English version to listen to. Dietrich later did it while in America although t it was not her original song.
Fantastic song and sung so well. My father was a tank troop commander in WWII and liked this song. I have always liked it so thank you for sharing.

@@ralfforner3606 It's OK. The UK Army also sung this song during WW2, but using English lyrics. In the 1950s it was sometimes on BBC radio, but with English lyrics. Another song that was sometimes on the BBC radio in the 1950s was 'O Mein Papa' but sung in German. And 'The Happy Wanderer' sung by the Oberkirken Childrens Choir.

Era la terza del testo integrale di 5 strofe Complimenti! Mi auguro che da ora in poi questa meravigliosa canzone sia riprodotta sempre nella sua versione integrale!

Lors d'un jumelage entre un village Allemand et un village Français dans les années 1960 je faisais partie d'un petit orchestre. J'ai vu les habitants du village Allemand monter sur les tables et chanter cette chanson lorsque les musiciens Français l'ont entonné. Un grand moment d'émotion partagée car nous connaissions tous cette chanson.!!
