Andrew I just want to say I have never known a better short film maker then your inspiring me to make my own film I’m glad you’re Amazing film has gone far good day
I remember already watching both the final version AND the pencil test, with one of my comments getting hearted by this channel (that was before I made the mistake of editing it). Didn't think much of the fact that there's gonna be a storyboard version too, let alone an instrumental one! Thanks for this upload! It surely is a blessing to be subscribed to this channel.

@@KINGArthur2010 its about Linus' wheel arrangement. in the final version, Linus had two small leading wheels at the front, four large driving wheels, and no trailing wheels at the back. These are 2-4-0 wheel configuration. But as seen here in the concept art, Linus originaly has four small leading wheels at the front and four driving wheels, the 4-4-0 wheel configuration. These are very common with typical American wild west steam locomotive and was a wheel arrangement ascociated with express locomotive at the time. I know its just minor technical train detail, but its still quiet interesting to see the early sketches and concept of these characters.
I know henry is like, what, 20? 30 years old? but he likes like a child, in their living room, imagining to be driving a train like i used to. edit: i just noteced that the train on the bridge is samson in this one, but a streamliner in the final. He he samson also has two tenders. the logic of it? it don't exist until we get an explanation
Wait chesworth, isn’t Samson a 4-8-4 and not a 4-6-2? I know this is a story board version, also are the engines 2:48 are those Linus’ dead brothers and sisters?
I love how its only Piano, Bass and Drums! Very similar to the demo you showed years ago! I'd Love to hear the stems or a instrumental of the song, Thanks for sharing!
This has to be a fully hand drawn short right..because if so..i love love it with all my heart to see it come by to life and I wish major studio's to the same instead of making computer animated films 24/7 or intrust hand dawn distribution films..it's been so long since we seen a fully inhouse hand drawn film from Disney / Warner Bros. / Paramount / Universal
I remember seeing the original work print a long time ago on TH-cam! And I was very impressed by the awesome animation and the movement of everything! Memories!🥲
I find it kind of strange that Linus in the final film looks like he's in his early 20s, while in the storyboard version, Linus looks like he's 80 years old...
@@TheSteamdriver I was talking about Linus's design, why does he look like he's in his 80s, but in the final flim, he looks like he's in his early 20s.

2:47 Why did you put in thunder crash in a soundtrack for the storyboard version
By popular request, releases of the instrumental version and the full color script are in the works! Thanks for watching, everyone!
yippee

Amazing film has gone far good day
The fact this very video released on Starlight Express’ 40 year anniversary.
Happy anniversary, Starlight Express!
I remember seeing some of these on patreon
Really neat to see them in action all together
I love that in the 7:09 concept art Samson looks relieved or happy to see Linus, great behind the scenes character growth.
hey Linus how is the new branchline going?
*the caboose:*
I like how this version still has the WIP version of Linus and Henry’s song from 8 years ago.
The fact that Samson looked way more beefy and that Linus is a dang 4-4-0 is crazy
Well Samson is a 4-8-4
linus without his tender:
What does 4-4-0 mean

Thanks for showing this Andrew
Plus this is when Linus had buffers
3:22 you can see the veins on the pistons on samson

It's heartwarming to hear the original version of the theme song again after all these years!
I like the remains of the old bridge that Linus used to use beneath the new wooden bridge
Yay another behind the scenes!
This is extremely cool. Love to see the process
This takes me back. It was so cool to watch this take off after so many years.
I can’t get over how impressive this whole this is.
An absolute masterpiece! Can't wait for more cartoons!

There’s the lady from your other train toon as a passenger is a great easter egg
1:29 that backflip was sick btw
finding out that Linus was meant to be a 4-4-0 shocks me
What's that?

The Brave Locomotive | Sing-Along Version
just made my day
it was suprise that that Samson was at beigining a 2-8-4 Berkshire
3:37 - or 4-8-2 Mountain
At 3:50 he looks like a modified 4-6-4 Hudson
1:29 YEAH🙂🙃🙂
I know henry is like, what, 20? 30 years old? but he likes like a child, in their living room, imagining to be driving a train like i used to.
edit: i just noteced that the train on the bridge is samson in this one, but a streamliner in the final. He he samson also has two tenders. the logic of it? it don't exist until we get an explanation
One tender is probably for coal the other for water. Pretty common or atleast used to be
Bro samson is now giant in this one!! 2:06
This looks more like rough animations 🤯 great work!
Wait chesworth, isn’t Samson a 4-8-4 and not a 4-6-2? I know this is a story board version, also are the engines 2:48 are those Linus’ dead brothers and sisters?
This storyboard looks amazing. Nearly good enough to be the final.
Masterpiece
Did Samson eat a whole house or something? He got chunky now 😅
I Love to get this on a dvd
I wish there was a shot of a sad Samson looking back at Linus
I love when creators show stuff like this to see how different the pitch was to the finale
Samsons old design was goofy ngl
this is like a book that people could read amazing drawing and work Andrew
2:07, 2:21, 3:50. 6:47. 6:49. Nice seeing storyboards showing Katrina and how she was originally planned to Henry’s love interest.
Good eye! Yes, that storyline was changed partly with editing and partly with storyboard revisions.
3:04 Her face is well drawn with facial expressions in one board.
Oh yea time to see more remakes from the brave locomotive starting
Samson looks more intimidating in this version
AND I LOVE IT
Is there other trains in the brave locomotive like a Chesapeake and Ohio l-1 or a Berkshire
Great work and it's really good❤
2:08 bro is a 4-6-2 pacific or a 2-6-2 prarie
2:48 ngl these scrap locomotives are just so nightmare fuel
6:26 another nightmare fuel face
6:49 samson sayed "linus be gonnnnnnnnnnnneeeeeeeeeeeeee"

@@TidHarbourWorks bro is stating the obvious
It's like the brave locomotive and the little engine that could combined together
Can you shere the intrumental version?
This looks outstanding
Can you do a extended full length version
Brilliant!!!!
Can you make more trains of the brave locomotive
I love how its only Piano, Bass and Drums! Very similar to the demo you showed years ago!
I'd Love to hear the stems or a instrumental of the song, Thanks for sharing!
That’s took ages but it’s worth it 😊
This looks like it but why does Samson have two tenders and why does those Linus's passenger cars look like the passenger car from wild west?
Made by the same guy, duh!
Samson having two tenders was probably meant to further emphasize his might and power.
Colori script version?😮
Good job with that
Amazing
Was Samson and Linus supposed to speak? And was the coaches Linus pulling supposed to be brown?
They supposed to be green
Odd that in the shot of the new bridge they changed out the engine that was crossing it from Samson to a generic streamliner.
Samson certainly looks A LOT different here than in the final product.
Do a alternate and Directors cut of the brave locomotive

Im wondering if there will be a TBL sequel or maybe a whole NEW SHOW!!! That would be cool to have a TBL show!
Upload the early work print and the color scripts of the brave locomotive
i love it!
This gives off the same vibes as the Cars deleted scenes
I didnt know what was happening when linus was saving samson but i knew what was happening by the music
Can you do 100% instrumental version, please?
I had forgotten how much I love watching storyboards. 😊
is anybody else still curious of what’s the name of the anglerfish train?
Cool 🎉
Why did lines uncouple samson' s tender ?
Release the end credits song
Muy bonito cuando se acaba 😄👍🏻

damn this is epic
Somin I noticed, in this Samson has six driving wheels. The final has eight. Intentional?
The backflip I did his spin😂 bro that was funny
concept art Samson is 4-8-2 and linus is 4-4-0.
It's like this thing is at least like a 100-year-old of animating
I remember seeing the original work print a long time ago on TH-cam! And I was very impressed by the awesome animation and the movement of everything! Memories!🥲
What the heck into 2015 opening
I find it kind of strange that Linus in the final film looks like he's in his early 20s, while in the storyboard version, Linus looks like he's 80 years old...
I think it's to show that a substantial amount of time has passed as Linus's crew is also significantly older as well
@@TheSteamdriver I was talking about Linus's design, why does he look like he's in his 80s, but in the final flim, he looks like he's in his early 20s.

This reminds me of like 1930s cartoons
I dunno why the pencil test has more veiws than the normal one
Samson being a 4-6-2 is just wrong
Samson got nerfed in the final
