He didn't have a name, just a number. C6 was what they called him.
He pulled coaches and trucks all day. He liked his work, but was getting old in his age. Then one day he stopped outside a small station. There, sitting next to a small shop, with a chain collar across it's neck, was a small brown bear.

Didn't even have a number, there should be one after the "C-62" on the numberplates on the smokebox and cab sides, as C-62 only designates what class the engine is, i.e. "C-62 48".
I can only assume the animators didn't give Mr. C6 a specific number as so many were cut up for scrap they didn't want the kiddos to get distraught on finding out.
In essence, it can represent all of them.

I can appreciate the story but I can see why Rev. W Awdry add the faces to his characters Thomas. It helps make a connection with the character. Even with someone like Herbie he has some features that the audience can connect with that resembles a face with his bumper and headlights. And the fact that his whole body moves, rattles and shakes to convey emotion.
Mr. C6 has the voice down pat which helps convey the emotion and connection of the character but with out a face or point of focus for the audience to relate to visual, it's a little bit jarring. But I guess the reason why there isn't a face with this so they don't appear as though they are copying the railway series or Thomas completely. There's enough there for it to be similar but it's own thing. That's my two cents on this character. :) Not knocking it in anyway.

The crash is a lot more intense with this story than the accidents on Thomas. But mind you, this cartoon is part of a anthology series and I had a look at what other stories it had and some of them are downright disturbing! :O And this was a series for kids! Yamataro Comes Back is actually a lot more light hearted story compared to the others but still very emotional.

I just realized that this engine looks like Hiro from the 3D animation era of Thomas. I think C62 is a similar model to Hiro. I definitely appreciate the amount of animation work that went into animating this engine as it's one of the most intricate design a steam engine can have. It's clever that most of the time, the engine is standing still or you have a lot of close up shots or when the engine is moving it's either a shadow silhouette or you just see the end of Mr. C6 as he leaves. It's a clever way to work around the animation budget for a tv episode so that way when you have the full body shots of the engine moving, the animation work really shines through (Especially for scenes like the crash at the end) instead of trying to do that all the time and stretch it over the whole episode. Quality over quantity kind of deal if that makes sense.

The end of an era. Steam was on its way out everywhere. The machines that built the world, built a world where they weren’t needed. Machines used as a blueprint for faster more efficient engines. While most diesels and electric engines might not put out more horsepower, they do output it more efficiently than steam could

Even for sentimentality. The prospect of the story still sees one suffer regardless. Suffering regardless of freedom is endless. Be it one who is free or one one who is captive. We all suffer until the end. What matters is how we end. We can choose to help others or help ourselves. Those are the only two choices. We cannot help ourselves if we wish to help others. We must rely on eachother to help ourselves. For that we must help others.
Go outside, help someone. You do not need help. Others need help. Then one day, I will help you.
