In case people are wondering about the barbershop. You have unlock the Aesthetician by completing the side quest: Beauty Is Only Scalp Deep. Minimal level requirement is 15, and you have to have completed the quest: Call of the Sea first. Once unlocked, ring a summoning bell inside any inn room to summon the Aesthetician.
Edit: Almost forgot. The side quest is located at Limsa Lominsa, Upper Decks, inside The Drowning Wench inn/tavern. NPC is a serving girl named S'dhodjb.

Thanks for the video. Coming over from another MMO and wanted to get a look at the character customization options.

Appreciate the guide, quite helpful~! I recently move over from WoW and Guild Wars 2. Just wanted another MMO to play as I been getting a little tired of the other two. xD

Are the Au Ra playable at the standard game if I buy it? Or do I need expansions?

Au Ra are available with the Heavensward expansion.

The game is beautiful, and I like most of it, I just can't seem to get over the movement. It feels so... clunky. I feel like I'm sliding over the ground instead of running on it, and moving/kiting just doesn't feel fluid.
The only MMO I have played that doesn't feel that way is WoW, which is very snappy and feels good. You hit a key, you move, you release, you stop - instantly. There is no floatiness, there is no sliding/skating feeling. The same goes with abilities. You cast one ability, the responsiveness of the UI ties in with it perfectly. Other MMOs just feel sloppy and slippery, or rigid and unresponsive.
I don't know if it's just a personal problem or what, but I hate it. WoW is shit right now and I'd like to play a different MMO, but I just can't get over the movement.

Really didn't see that my self, but on the subject of immersion, my kill button is all the invisible walls they have in place. Many time there are balconies, small ledges or even embankments I can't jump off because the game says I can't go there. Even a small stream I can't move across and I'm forced to use the bridge. Even though the stream is very shallow that in real life I could just walk down and cross without getting my hiking boots wet.

WOW....those are the worse/least creative races for a mmo I have seen I think.....I was almost thinking of trying ff14 out but WOW......playable races are a real deal breaker for me, these are so boring.

It also has no sliders for customization... That's a bummer for me.

I'm assuming it's because they don't have a true non human races to pick from, like WoW's Goblins or ESO Khajiit. They do have them, but are non playable races. The Roegadyn and the Lalafell probably being the furthest from not looking like a cosplayer due to their size and body shape. Male Roegadyn especially.
However the game. play is very solid. Combat is easy to learn, and the class quests and crafting give it a more nostalgic feel to gaming, for long time wow players at least. I highly recommend giving the 7 day trial a go and see if the story and game play can make up for the lack of full looking non human playable characters.
